Isporuke hrvatskih brodogradilišta / Croatian Shipyards Deliveries ULJANIK Pula Delivery of Barda On the 14 th of September 2012 Uljanik Shipyard delivered the Yard 498, named Barda, to the Azerbaijan State Caspian Shipping Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan. This is the first of the two contracted 5,000 dwt ships for the transportation of wagons on the Caspian Sea. The ship, having a length of 154.80 m and a width of 17.5 m, will be driven by two Uljanik-MAN B&W engines of type 5S26MC6, each having a power of 2000 kw at 250 RPM, and will achieve a sailing speed of 14.5 knots with the overall transport of 54 wagons. The delivery documents were signed by Mr. Serđo Pajković, Marketing Director of Uljanik Shipyard and Mr. Shahid Orujov, assistant of the Director of the Azerbaijan State Caspian Shipping Company. The signing of the documents was followed by the flag raising ceremony onboard the Barda with which the delivery ceremony, attended The delivery documents were signed by Mr. Serđo Pajković, Marketing Director of Uljanik Shipyard and Mr. Shahid Orujov, assistant of the Director of the Azerbaijan State Caspian Shipping Company The Yard 498, named Barda, to the Azerbaijan State Caspian Shipping Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan 63(2012)4 301

by the ship-owner s representatives, ship s crew, and leading people of Uljanik, was concluded. As a reminder, several ships constructed in Uljanik Shipyard for the Azerbaijan State Caspian Shipping Company are sailing today, and Uljanik had constructed similar ships for the transportation of wagons six years ago, as well as in the mid 1980s when eight so-called paromi were constructed for the transportation of wagons. With today s delivery, the collaboration between the current head people of the Azerbaijan State Caspian Shipping Company and Uljanik which started almost 28 years ago has once again been confirmed and deepened, forming a good and strong base for all future work. The Contract for the construction of the Barda was signed in May 2011 and the ship was launched into the sea on the 10 th of May of this current year. Delivery of Balaken On the 27 th of September 2012 Uljanik Shipyard delivered the Yard 499, named Balaken, to the Azerbaijan State Caspian Shipping Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan. This is the second of the two contracted 5,000 dwt ships, for the transportation of wagons on the Caspian Sea. The ship, having a length of 154.80 The Yard 499, named Balaken The delivery documents were signed by Mr. Anton Brajković, President of the Administrative Board of Uljanik and Mr. Aydin Bashirov, the President of the Azerbaijan State Caspian Shipping Company m and a width of 17.5 m, will be driven by two Uljanik-MAN B&W engines of type 5S26MC6, each having a power of 2000 kw at 250 RPM, and will achieve a sailing speed of 14.5 knots with the overall transport of 54 wagons. It should be stressed that from the start of the construction of the Balaken on the slipway on the 30 th of March of this current year until the day of the delivery to the ship-owner less than six months had passed, which is actually the shortest time that has taken Uljanik s workers to build a ship in the past 15 years and it represents an extraordinary achievement for the shipyard. The delivery documents were signed by Mr. Anton Brajković, President of the Administrative Board of Uljanik and Mr. Aydin Bashirov, the President of the Azerbaijan State Caspian Shipping Company. The signing of the documents was followed by the flag raising ceremony onboard the Balaken with which the delivery ceremony, attended by the ship-owner s representatives, ship s crew, and leading people of Uljanik, was concluded. As a reminder, Uljanik recently delivered to the same company the Barda, a sister vessel of the Balaken, and it should be mentioned that several ships constructed in Uljanik Shipyard for the Azerbaijan State Caspian Shipping Company are sailing today, and that Uljanik had constructed similar ships for the transportation of wagons six years ago, as well as in the mid 1980s when eight so-called paromi were constructed for the transportation of wagons. With today s delivery, the collaboration between the current head people of the Azerbaijan State Caspian Shipping Company and Uljanik, which started almost 28 years ago, has once again been confirmed and deepened, forming a good and strong base for all future work. The Contract for the construction of the Balaken was signed in May 2011 and the ship was launched into the sea on the 15 th of June of this current year. Yard 496 Pedro Alvares Cabral Delivered Uljanik Shipyard on the 30 th of October 2012 delivered to the Luxembourg company Jan De Nul S.A., Capellen D.D., Luxembourg the Yard 496 named Pedro Alvares Cabral. It is the first of the two contracted 26,000 dwt Trailing Suction Hopper Dredgers, having a length of 147.6 meters and a width of 30 meters. The delivery documents were signed by Mr. Walter Dietens, project leader in the Technical Department of JDN Group and Serđo Pajković, manager of the Sales, Project and Calculation Department in ULJANIK Shipyard. Hoppers are very complex floating objects for performing maritime works and 302 63(2012)4

The Yard 496 named Pedro Alvares Cabral are used for suction and transportation of material from the sea bottom. In contrast to the four previously delivered Self Propelled Cutter Suction Dredgers, Uljanik workers have taken upon themselves the entire project and the construction of the ship. Thus, the investment in technology and knowledge that was required for the previously constructed ships (cutters) became an invaluable experience which has now enabled Uljanik to independently The delivery documents were signed by Mr. Walter Dietens, project leader in the Technical Department of JDN Group and Serđo Pajković, manager of the Sales, Project and Calculation Department in Uljanik Shipyard build dredgers in their entirety. This approach is in accordance with Uljanik s orientation towards niches of special ships with additional value, as for example ships for the transportation of heavy cargoes or so-called ships for the supply of platforms and anchor manipulations, rescue-at-sea as well as offering aid-atsea, which Uljanik can now build using its own know-how. The ship and the working equipment on the Pedro are driven by two main diesel engines, each having a power of 7,200 kw, while the depth from which the material will be sucked lies in the 42-50 meter range. Figuratively, the working characteristics of the ship can be roughly presented in this way: its capacity of 14,000 cubic meters is enough to cover a football pitch to a height of three meters in only one emptying, or for five loadings and unloadings that may be accomplished during the course of one day the football pitch would be covered with a blanket of material with a height of 14 meters. Another example would be beach construction: with two loadings and unloadings this hopper could cover a beach 1 km long and 30 meters wide with material to a height of 1 meter. It should be stressed that this shipbuilding project exceeds the shipbuilding framework in the wider region and Uljanik, by constructing and delivering these ships, confirms that it belongs to the small group of global shipyards which could offer to build, or have already built, such a floating object. A very good collaboration with all the ship-owner s representatives and their technical teams as well as with the Bureau Veritas inspectors should be also stressed. This is the fourth delivery in Uljanik this year, since during the course of 2012 Uljanik already delivered a ship for the transportation of bulk cargo as well as two recent transportation ships destined for the Caspian Sea. The contract for the construction of Pedro Alvares Cabral was signed in July 2010, while the ship was launched in the middle of February of this current year. After the delivery the ship will sail under the flag of Luxembourg.
