The Convention Centre Dublin At almost 500,000 sq ft (44,000 sq m), The Convention Centre Dublin is the largest single-use building constructed in Dublin in decades, and indeed the first major public access building since the foundation of the State. Treasury's vision is to provide a building with a 1,000 year life space. By designing the building around the end-use, from the inside out, we have achieved a centre that is definitely fit for purpose, for place, for people and for posterity. A landmark in the Dublin landscape, Spencer Dock's Convention Centre is designed by award-winning architect Kevin Roche. It will house a main auditorium capable of accommodating 2,000 people and two large exhibition/banquet halls capable of accommodating 5,000 people in total. Additional breakout rooms can accommodate 1,300 people, creating overall capacity for 8,000 people. The centre offers 25,000 sq ft (2,300 sq m) of ancillary exhibition space as well as basement car park levels with parking for 260 cars (convention centre use only). The addition of a 5-star, 250-bed hotel within the centre makes it an ideal venue for events, exhibitions, concerts and many other uses. The Convention Centre Dublin is set to become Ireland s leading conference venue, setting new standards in design and technology, attracting an array of national and international companies. Park Life As part of an international design competition, the Dublin Docklands Development Authority called for proposals for the composition of the Royal Canal Linear Park. The competition, run by the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland, will result in the superb design of the one kilometre Linear Park that runs from North Wall Quay all the way to Croke Park along the banks of the Royal Canal. Restaurants, bars, shops and performance spaces will surround the park, while Central Square provides the focal point for the entire Spencer Dock area. This beating heart of the park will have a fully pedestrianised walkway with accompanying water feature running down its central line.the park s maze of pathways and complementary planting aim to create a sense of quietude and peace.the main square will be used by hundreds of people and viewed from above by people in the surrounding buildings through breaks in the tree canopy. On the Spencer Dock site alone, the new park covers an area of over ten acres and this land has been given to the project by the Spencer Dock Development Company and CIE. Park Life
