MEETING INFORMATION Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, lies on the Danube, a waterway connecting Western and Central European countries with the countries of Southeastern and Eastern Europe. Belgrade is the third largest city in Southeastern Europe after Istanbul and Athens. Belgrade is the city of youth. HOW TO GET TO SERBIA By Air Belgrade`s Nikola Tesla International Airport (BEG) is main gateway to Serbia. There are 26 airline carriers operating in Belgrade: 20 international carriers, 5 low-cost carriers and 1 national carrier. Belgrade is directly connected to over 50 major European ports and cities. The bus stop is located in front of the Arrivals. Tickets can be bought on the bus. By Bus The E-70 and E-75 international routes connect to all major towns in Europe. Belgrade lies along the E-70 and E-75 connecting Western and Northern Europe on one side and Southern and Eastern Europe on the other side. Serbia has 40,000 km of roads, including 600 km of expressways. The Central Bus Station is located in the city center. By Rail The capital city, Belgrade, has regular and direct rail connections with capital cities in Central and Eastern Europe. International passenger trains include a regular day and night train, the Avala, that goes from Belgrade to Budapest, and Vienna. There are also daily trains running from Belgrade to Zurich (Switzerland), Munich(Germany), Ljubljana (Slovenia), Banja Luka (Bosnia), Sofia (Bulgaria), Bucharest (Romania), and Thessalonica (Greece). REGISTRATION A welcome desk will be located next to the hotel reception desk from 23 till 25 April 2012, to welcome all the delegates and accompanying persons. A detailed programme will be available at the welcome desk. Oplenac Perched high above Topola on Oplenac Hill, the Karadjordjevic family mausoleum and St.George Church complex are one of the most historic sites in this part of Sumadija. All participants are to register themselves at registration desk located next to the entrance of the plenary room (Crystal Ballroom) on 25 and 26 April 2012. SERBIA IN BRIEF The Republic of Serbia is situated in southeastern Europe, in the centre of the Balkan Peninsula. Because Serbia covers part of the Pannonian Plain in the north, the country also belongs to Central Europe, while due to its southern region, in terms of geography and climate, Serbia is also considered a Mediterranean country. Serbia has connected West with East for centuries a land in which civilizations, cultures, faiths, climates and landscapes meet and mingle. Serbia s beautiful mountains, national parks, rivers and lakes are the perfect location for an active outdoor holiday from hunting and fishing to extreme sports. Today, Serbia is a modern, democratic European country, on the path to membership of the European Union, which a diverse range of visitors from young backpackers to participants in congresses and fairs visit every day. USEFUL INFO SHOPS & BANKS Shopping malls and stores are opened from 09:00 until 23:00. Most banks and post offices are open from 08:30 to 19.00. Only designated banks or post offices are open on Sundays. FOOD & DRINK Tap water is safe to drink. Bottled water is popular and easily available. Most hotels and restaurants offer Serbian national cuisine. ABOUT BELGRADERS It does not take long for foreign visitors to Belgrade to discover the hospitality, kindness, openness and warmth of Belgraders. The citizens of Belgrade like all sorts of things: pleasant conversations and long walks, drinking their morning coffee or days off work, they also love it when they find freshly baked warm bread in the local bakery. They like being in motion and therefore the streets, walkways, cafes and restaurants are always filled with people. In contrast to the rest of Europe, there is not a single day of the week in Belgrade when you cannot have a night out and that holds true for all generations, for all lifestyles and musical tastes and for all available budgets. The exciting nightlife of Belgrade is gaining momentum. Belgrade is said to be the new capital of cool, the place where the best nightlife in Europe is happening. USEFUL INFO WEATHER Serbia s climate is moderate continental, with four seasons. Spring is from April to June, and the daily temperature varies from 20 C to 28 C. Light jacket in the evening is compulsory. Summer is from June to September and the daily temperature varies from 29 C to 36 C.
