He will be available to assist you on your arrival day in Denmark. The bus company, Egon s, will take your group from Copenhagen Airport to your accommodation in. Travel time: 1 hour 30 minutes DTU Campus Village Elektrovej 330 2800 DENMARK http://www.dtu.dk/accommodation Bus stop: Elektrovej (Lundtoftevej) Meet Brad for an orientation session. He will give you information about and Copenhagen and hand out maps of the cities to you. He will also help you to buy your public transportation passes and show you your new surroundings, the nearest supermarket, ATM and bus stop. Take the opportunity to ask any question you may have about, Copenhagen or Denmark in general. Together with Copenhagen, is the center of the Øresund Region, the most densely populated region in Scandinavia. is known as the City of Parks, and it is also well known for its culinary arts. Of all the Swedish cities, boasts the highest concentration of restaurants per capita. Duration: 1 hour 1:15 pm Walk Enjoy some free time for lunch at your own expense. Walk to Castle and Museer. Walking time: depending on your meeting point 1:30 pm Visit Start your visit to Castle and Museer. Castle was founded in 1434 by King Eric of Pomerania. This structure was partially demolished in the early 16 th century, and a new one was built in its place in the 1530s by King Christian III of Denmark. Historically, this fortress was one of the most important strongholds of Denmark. At Museer you can see everything from the Nordic region s oldest surviving Renaissance castle to a real submarine and fantastic vehicles. The museum s permanent exhibitions focus on history, natural history, technology and seafaring. There are also about a dozen temporary exhibitions every year. Museer is responsible for preservation of the cultural environment and has extensive collections, including those of textiles and photography. Duration: 15 minutes 10:00 am Walk Enjoy a short walk to the Lund Cathedral. Walking time: 15 minutes 10:15 am Visit Join Brad for a visit to the Lund Cathedral which was consecrated in 1145, and contains many well-known artefacts and features of considerable historical interest. Since then service has been held here every day for almost 900 years. The building of the Cathedral actually began some 65 years earlier in 1080. Its first Archbishop, Ascer, consecrated the high alter in the Crypt in 1123; and his successor, Archbishop Eskil, then consecrated the main cathedral building in 1145. Duration: depending on your individual schedule 2:00 pm Departure Explore Lund at your own leisure and enjoy lunch at your own expense. Lund is believed to have been founded around 990, when Scania belonged to Denmark. It soon became a major Christian center of the Baltic Sea region, at a time when the area was still a frontier area for Christian mission, and within Scandinavia and especially Denmark through the Middle Ages. Lund University, established 1666, is today one of Scandinavia's largest institutions for education and research. Today 35% of the population in Lund is students. Return by public transportation to. Day 8» Sunday, January 8 The remainder of the day is free to have dinner at your own expense. Enjoy a free day in or consider travelling to Copenhagen and discover the city on your own. You may want to visit Rosenborg Castle. The 400-year-old castle was built by Christian IV whose colorful personality left a strong mark on Danish history. Today visitors can travel back in time and through the possessions of Christian IV and his heirs get a sense of both everyday life and the festive aspects of royal life through 400 years. The rooms and halls testify to pomp and pageantry, but also to peculiarities, secrets, and a view of the world which was in some ways like ours, and in others very different. Enjoy a free day in or consider travelling to Copenhagen and visit the Carlsberg Glyptotek, an art museum in Copenhagen. The collection is built around the personal collection of Carl Jacobsen (1842 1914), the son of the founder of the Carlsberg Breweries. Primarily a sculpture museum as indicated by the name, the focal point of the museum is antique sculpture from the ancient cultures around the Mediterranean including Egypt, Rome and Greece, as well as more modern sculptures such as a collection of Rodin works which is considered the most important outside France. Walking time: 25 minutes 11:00 am Visit Join Brad for a guided tour of Kronborg Castle and see one of the most important Renaissance castles in Northern Europe. The castle's story dates back to a stronghold, Krogen, built by King Eric VII in the 1420s. Along with the fortress Kärnan, Helsingborg on the opposite coast of Øresund, it controlled the entranceway to the Baltic Sea. From 1574 to 1585 King Frederick II had the medieval fortress radically transformed into a magnificent Renaissance castle Duration: 1 hour 5:00 pm Walk Enjoy lunch at your own expense and a free afternoon to discover Helsingør further on your own. You may consider visiting Marienlyst Castle at your own expense. The building formerly served as a royal pavilion of Kronborg Castle and was mostly used as a venue for pleasure and hunting. It was also used by the Director-General of the Øresund Custom House, Colonel Adam Gottlob von Krogh and his wife Magdalene, between 1796 and 1847 Meet Brad and walk with him to the train station. Alternatively, consider visiting Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen, a palace and government building on the islet of Slotsholmen in central Copenhagen. It is the seat of the Danish Parliament (Folketinget), the Danish Prime Minister's Office and the Supreme Court of Denmark. Also, several parts of the palace are used by the Danish monarch, including the Royal Reception Rooms, the Palace Chapel and the Royal Stables.
