Exploring Wagyu Origins and Markets a Trade Mission to Japan 15 Day Escorted Program from 30 August to 13 September 2017 As the traditional home of Wagyu cattle, Japan is a country of spectacular natural beauty with gentle rural landscapes contrasting with modern, vibrant cities. Japan s agriculture is steeped in tradition, however in many instances has adapted to modern production and management techniques. Join fellow Australian Wagyu breeders to travel to Japan to experience first-hand the operation, management and development of the Japanese beef industry and consider opportunities for Australian producers. The program is based around the National Wagyu Show near Sendai but also includes the dramatically different northern island of Hokkaido to meet with major Wagyu breeders. PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS: Explore future marketing opportunities for Australian Wagyu beef in Japan Attendance at the 11 th National Exhibition of Wagyu near Sendai Industry briefing and supermarket visit with Japan-based representatives of Meat and Livestock Australia Wagyu farms on Hokkaido. including the breeder of Memuro Mirai Wagyu, Oono Farm Inspect feedlots and visit Wagyu breeders 1300 301 128 02 6651 1722 www.quadrantaustralia.com

Day 3 Tokyo Obihiro, Hokkaido Fri 1 Sep Early morning departure for Tokyo Haneda Airport to catch the 7.40am flight to Obihiro on to the northern island of Hokkaido to visit Obihiro University to meet with Mr Kuchida. Hokkaido s economy relies largely on its agriculture boasting nearly a quarter of Japan s usable land for plants such as potatoes, wheat and corn. Additionally, Hokkaido is the nation s leading producer in raw milk and beef, making it a substantial provider for much of Japan s dairy and beef industry. The cultivated land area per farm household is 15 times greater than any other prefecture in Japan. The city lies in the mid-western Kansai district on the island of Honshu, surrounded by plains full of rice paddies. Kyoto is also the home location of the head office of the Japan National Wagyu Registry Association. This achievement clearly indicates that the Japanese consider Miyazaki Wagyu to be superior to all other Japanese Wagyu, including the beef from Kobe.
