NEWSLETTER Volume: #1, Issue 3 ABOUT ZY EXPRESS INC. We are an expanding contractor for Canada Post Corporation established in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario over 20 years ago. Our expansion is a direct result of the people we have in our communities doing their jobs above and beyond the call of duty. Eazy Express Inc. takes pride in its workers for their honesty and integrity and it is on these qualities that our reputation is based. RUMOS REGARDING CUS CONTRACTS It has been brought to my attention that rumours are being circulated that Canada Post Corporation is cancelling CUS contracts and will not be awarding any new ones. I can assure you that Eazy Express Inc. has not been informed by Canada Post Corporation of any such action. As most of you are aware, Eazy Express Inc. was awarded CUS contracts in Nanaimo, BC in April and Oakville, ON in May. Leamington, ON and Amherstburg, ON contracts were both renewed on March 1 st, 2010. Misleading information is being given to CUS drivers across the country to try to encourage drivers to join CUPW (Canadian Union of Postal Workers). I would strongly recommend that you investigate closely and separate fact from fiction when you hear this information. Here are a couple of rumours you may hear: 1) New contractors may not keep existing drivers Fact is: Why wouldn t any contractor keep trained, efficient drivers who already know the job? 2) Canada post is doing away with CUS contractors and the jobs will be done by Canada Post personnel, so to protect your job you should join CUPW now Fact is: Canada Post Corporation has a seniority program in place and CUS drivers will not have any seniority within that program. Eazy Express Inc. has always tried to keep on the existing drivers when awarded new contracts. We have been very successful in achieving this goal. The drivers have always received improved working conditions and have NEVER been asked to take a cut in pay. Part of the success of Eazy Express Inc. is that we have a very low driver turnover and our drivers do a superior job. Thank you, Ted Brooks President, Eazy Express Inc.
NEWSLETTER Suspicious Parcels/Mail Last month, a CUS driver was delivering a parcel to a residence and was stopped by law enforcement officers before he got to the door. Officers took the parcel from the driver, opened it and found that it contained an illegal substance. Not realizing who the driver worked for, they told him that he was being detained. Upon discovery that the driver was in fact delivering for Canada Post Corporation he was let go. If you come across a parcel that you suspect is illegal in nature, if you wish, report it to a CPC supervisor and write it down for your own records who you told and the date and time. It is not the responsibility of a CUS driver to determine what is inside the parcel they are delivering. However, parcels that may be considered a threat will need to be reported to CPC immediately. Each CPC location has procedures in place if a threatening parcel is found. There is an area in the building designated for such parcels. It is a good idea to know where to bring a parcel if it s considered to be a threat.! Email Scam Alert! There is a new e-mail message titled Canada Post Delivery #9381747173 being sent to computers in Canada. This does not originate from Canada Post and has been identified as a scam. It should be deleted immediately. PIENCE PAYS OFF On a mid April afternoon, Joe Bates was just coming to the end of his parcel deliveries. He was at a house that he goes to quite often as this customer does a lot of mail order shopping. Joe knows that the customer is an elderly lady and takes a bit longer to get to the door, so he rings the bell and waits. While he is waiting he noticed that it was taking a bit longer than usual and still no one was coming to the door, then he noticed a pair of hands opening the bottom of the door. Joe then opened the door and found the customer had fallen down the landing and was sitting there. She told him that she couldn t feel her leg. He noticed she was wearing a Medic Alert bracelet and asked if she had pressed the button. She had, and moments later he heard a voice coming from the bedroom asking if everything was alright. He answered for the customer and then Paramedics were called. Joe stayed with the customer while the Paramedics were en-route and made some calls for her to her daughter to let her know what had happened. When the Paramedics arrived Joe explained to them what had happened and what he had done to help. As it turned out, the customer needed 3.5 hours of surgery to repair the broken femur she had suffered in the fall. If it hadn t been for Joe this could have been far worse than it was. Well done Joe Bates, you are an inspiration to us all!
