THE MAJORITY OF THE COUNTRY S MERCHANT VESSELS HAD BEEN DESTROYED DURING THE CONFLICT. OVER THE PAST SEVEN DECADES, FINNLINES HAS KNOWN MANY UPS AND DOWNS: FROM STRIKING UNIONS TO TRANS-ATLANTIC RATE DEPRESSIONS AND THE MIDDLE EAST OIL PRICE SHOCK. OVER THAT TIME, MANAGEMENT HAS TRIED ITS HAND AT THE CONTAINER TRADES, BULK SHIPPING AND EVEN CRUISING, WITH MIXED SUCCESS. Issue 1/2017 seq. no. 20 Editor in Chief: Printed by: Published by: Finnlines K-Print Printed in March 2017. Circulation: 20,000 copies news Finnlines Plc Komentosilta 1 FI 00980 Helsinki www.finnlines.com press@finnlines.com Perhaps the lowest point in the carrier s history came just after the financial crisis, when, if it were not for prompt intervention by the Grimaldi Group, the largest shareholder at the time, the line could well have gone bust. Today, seventy years since the first commercial operations, Finnlines has never been in better shape. 2016 was again a record year. Profits came in at Euro 68 million, 20% up on 2015. Our impressive bottom line was achieved on declining turnover, making it all the more remarkable. As turnover has declined, volumes have increased. We are doing more for our customers with fewer assets. We carried more freight in 2016 than the previous year, a total of 629,000 cargo units. More than 600,000 private and commercial passengers travelled on our ships, an increase of around 5%. This turnaround has been achieved thanks to ever-increasing productivity, both per ship and per employee. As part of the never-ending search for productivity gains, the

Grimaldi Group, which now owns all Finnlines shares, is studying the lengthening or jumboisation of up to six vessels. Fuel consumption, our largest cost, remains close to record lows, meaning ships emit less pollution. The final two vessels in the 22-strong fleet, all fully owned and managed, will be fitted with emissions scrubbers this year. These vessels do not release any toxic sulphur fumes while trading in the ecologically sensitive Baltic and North Seas. Our efforts to reduce our fleet s environmental impact were recognised at last year s European Business Awards, where Finnlines was handed the Ruban d honneur. The world in which Finnlines trades has changed beyond all recognition. Trade flows, even between FUEL CONSUMPTION REMAINS CLOSE TO RECORD LOWS, MEANING SHIPS EMIT LESS POLLUTION. western nations, were strictly managed in the early days. Permission from Finland s central bank was required if a company wanted to invest abroad. The Finnish flag was burdened by excessive costs, leading to wholesale flagging out. Today, Europe is governed by free-traders, which means capital and expertise can move freely around the bloc. Rather than a regional player relying on ever-changing partnerships, Finnlines is part of a multinational market leader with a consolidated network spanning several continents. The ebbs and flows of the Finnlines story are recounted in some detail in Grimaldi Armatori, The Story of a Family and a Company, a history of over 430 pages that was published late last year. Photos of old Finnlines vessels and early marketing campaigns are included in a chapter dedicated to the line. Customers and staff can be assured that Finnlines, and the Grimaldi Group, which by coincidence was founded in the same year, will both be around for many decades to come. 3

MS FINNLADY MS FINNSTAR MS FINNMAID RENEWED STAR VESSELS: EASY-GOING AND SMOOTH TO CELEBRATE FINNLINES 70 TH ANNIVERSARY AND TO SERVE OUR CUSTOMERS BETTER, WE HAVE RENEWED OUR HANSALINK STAR CLASS VESSELS WITH A MIXTURE OF AGELESS MARITIME, SERENE SCANDINAVIAN MODERN STYLE AND AN INDUSTRIAL CARGO LOOK. As we all know customer feedback gives us valuable insight. We based our decision to proceed with our Star Class vessel facelifts on an analysis of our passengers feedback and satisfaction surveys. From the results it was clear that the expectations of our customers have grown. The public areas on deck 11 and Reception on deck 7 received significant makeovers in order to offer value-added service to all our passengers. To emphasise the relationship to our owner, Naples based Grimaldi Group, Italian gastronomy and hospitality has been implemented into the new concept. Some important public areas have received Italian names such as the Strada and the outer deck Terrazzo. Mare Balticum & Hansa Cabinet The sea journey allows time to enjoy food, drink and good company! The bright colours combined with an industrial cargo look create an inviting and enjoyable atmosphere for family gatherings as well as peaceful dinners. A part of the buffet restaurant, the Hansa Cabinet, can be separated into a meeting and conference area. Pop Up bar: Bar Corallo Bar Corallo now serves as a real drink bar at the heart of the Mare Balticum buffet restaurant and offers wines and aperitifs or digestives. Bar & Bistro Navigare On the other hand, the Bistro offers a different world, an industrial look and feel of cool cargo. Live music can be enjoyed during high season in selected departures. Swinging on the sea what a jazzy idea! Star Café In the Star Café, the trends of the world can be enjoyed to the fullest! Menus have been redesigned to offer variety while the all time favourite Scandinavian treats like the salmon toast can still be found on the menu, too. The Star Café serves also those enjoying the fresh sea breezes of the Terrazzo. 6

Kids playroom & Teens Lounge Happy kids mean a better journey for all! Bearing this in mind, the kids playroom and the Teens lounge have had a makeover. The teens are welcome to chill out, chat with friends, play games, take selfies and purely enjoy the journey in a place of their own. Terrazzo In order to be able to enjoy the relaxing sea breeze in almost every weather, wind separators were installed and a sheltered area created. New chairs and tables add on comfort. Gymstick Gym Training with a view! The large windows facing the Baltic Sea give an extra edge to the training. More privacy was created by separating the Gymstic Gym into two areas with treadmills, a state of the art rowing machine and weights. Vista Lounge & Panorama corridor The Vista Lounge is a space dedicated to easy lounging for effortlessly watching the waves, the seagulls, the scenery - or just enjoying the voyage with a travel mate or a book. NOW IT S POSSIBLE TO CONNECT ANY PORT IN THE LOOP FASTER THAN ANY EXISTING CONNECTION BY ROAD, RAIL OR EVEN SEA. Finnlines extends Spain Zeebrugge service to UK and Sweden At the beginning of January 2017, Finnlines extended its weekly service between Santander Bilbao and Zeebrugge (Belgium) to Tilbury, Hull and Teesport (UK) and Gothenburg (Sweden). These destinations are offered in co-operation with P&O Ferries and Swedish Orient Line respectively. This new service adds to the effectiveness of the Zeebrugge Bilbao/Santander corridor with a seamlessly synchronised transhipment for cargo with origin or destination the UK and Sweden. The co-operation between the different services will make it possible to connect any port in the loop with a maximum transit time of five days which is faster than any existing connection by road, rail or even sea. The Finnlines service is operated with modern ro-ro vessels that are suitable for all kinds of cargo: trailers, ro-ro, containers, mobile and breakbulk cargo. The deck heights and ramp strengths are suitable for a variety of oversized and overweight cargo units, too. P&O Ferries runs several weekly sailings from the British east coast ports of Tilbury, Hull and Teesport to its continental hub at Zeebrugge. By connecting with these routes, Finnlines vessels from Zeebrugge to the Spanish ports of Bilbao and Santander provide a sea bridge between northern Spain and north-eastern England. A corresponding service is created between Zeebrugge and Gothenburg, as SOL offers a daily service between the two ports. Rostock Hanko service upgraded to 4/7 In a pursuit of ever better service Finnlines improved and upgraded the connection between Rostock and Hanko to be a full 4/7 service as from the beginning of January 2017. The introduction of two additional calls between Hanko and Rostock is a welcome addition to the existing Finnlines system between Finland and Germany. High-frequency service creates a significant competitive edge for our customers. Hanko is the most southern port of Finland, less prone to ice limitations during winter, and well connected to both western and southern areas of the country. On the Hanko Rostock route there are two fully dedicated, modern and environmental friendly ro-ro vessels deployed, with ample capacity to cater for the needs of the trade. In addition to Hanko Rostock there are two weekly departures from Rostock to Helsinki (Wednesday, Saturday) and three from Helsinki to Rostock (Tuesday, Thursday, Friday). 9
