13 CAPE TOWN ATTRACTIONS Table Mountain is the most iconic landmark of South Africa. It is also the country s most photographed attraction and its famous cable car took millions of people to its top.table Mountain has become the single most welcoming icon to not only our people, but travellers from all over the world. There are about 2,200 species of plants found on Table Mountain and 1470 floral species. Many of these plants and flowers are endemic to this mountain. Robben Island is located in Table Bay, some 6km west of Bloubergstrand, and stands some 30m above sea level. Robben Island has been used as prison and a place where people were isolated, banished and exiled to for nearly 400 years. It was also used as a post office, a grazing ground, a mental hospital and an outpost. In 1961 it started being used as a prison again. During apartheid many Black people were kept on Robben Island as political prisoners. Former President Nelson Mandela was kept there. The prison internationally notorious for its harsh conditions and when the political prisoners of the apartheid government were released Robben Island became a symbol of the strength of the human spirit. The Cape Winelands is known as the culinary capital of South Africa; titillate your taste buds while savouring some of the world s finest wines in Franschhoek. Taste locally produced cheeses, olives and export quality fruit and organic produce in Bonnievale and Ceres.The Cape Winelands also boasts world-class golf courses and endless kilometers of cycling, walking and hiking routes. The winelands unsurpassed scenery with mountains, vineyards and Cape Dutch architecture as a backdrop, is a sought after location for weddings, conferences and special occasions. Explore wonderful towns such as Paarl, Robertson and the oak-lined streets of Stellenbosch.. Kirstenbosch was established in 1913 to promote, conserve and display the extraordinarily rich and diverse flora of southern Africa, and was the first botanic garden in the world to be devoted to a country's indigenous flora. Kirstenbosch displays a wide variety of the unique plant life of the Cape Flora, also known as fynbos, including sugarbushes (Protea spp.), pincushions (Leucospermum spp.) and heaths (Erica spp.). Plants from all the diverse regions and biomes of southern Africa are also grown at Kirstenbosch

18 ABOUT SACPO South African College Principal Organisation is an independent association of all 50 South African Technical, Vocational Education and Training colleges, comprising of a National General Council and a National Office. Membership of the association is voluntary. SACPO accounts to its members in terms of the SACPO Constitution/ Memorandum of Incorporation (as adopted in 2017 NGC). The organisation has a National Executive Committee and the Office bearers, comprised of elected principals that are responsible for the affairs of the organisation which ar e the highest decision making bodies of the association respectively. Its administration is headed by a Chief Executive Officer. SACPO has set out its role to represent, promote and protect the interests of all public colleges, among its other objectives. SACPO is funded through a combination of sources, including membership fees as its primary source of income. Since its establishment, SACPO has strived to bring focus to its mandate of supporting TVETS in the Higher Education environment, characterised by a highly diverse membership-base of colleges. SACPO has a strong strategic role to play in representing the interests of TVETs within the system of Higher Education as a whole and supporting its members to fulfill their developmental obligations. SACPO is expected to be an active participant in Higher Education and Training System to provide common policy positions on numerous issues and to voice TVETS interest, as well as provide solutions to the challenges currently facing TVETS.
