Box 37724 Shreveport, LA 71133 F RO M TH E PRESIDENT S DESK The big news last month was the World of Wheels Car Show the second weekend in January. Not only did our Club fulfill the obligations for man power and setup for the show earning a nice chunk of change for our charities, we also walked away with the $500.00 cash prize for best club display. I overheard someone say that we outdid ourselves with our display featuring a 22 foot tall Hot Wheels loop made from styrofoam and painted the traditional orange just like the real thing. Almost doubling the height of last years 12 foot tall Mayan Pyramid, you could see our Hot Wheels loop from anywhere in the building. There were news crews using our display as a back drop throughout the weekend, and one in particular interviewed our own Rusty Rhame about the friendly club display competition we have with the Mopar Club. I want to Thank Rusty for doing that for me since I am just too camera shy. He is and always has been the face of the Mustang Club here in town, so it only makes sense that he should be interviewed and represent our club in his usual friendly and professional manner. Once again, our Club with all its members came through along with the Mopar Club to pull off a great show. I want to thank all the Club members who came out and worked a shift to help earn our money for our charities. Don t forget to turn in your points sheets to Mark Winderweedle to get credit for your work. If you worked more than one shift, which deserves special recognition from myself and the Board of Directors, don t forget to note that on your points sheets as well. You get credit per shift, so working multiple shifts will get you closer to that one of a kind top points satin Club jacket. For those Club members who agreed to put their cars in our display, without your rides we would not have been able to create such a great display. After all, the show is all about the cars, and we had a great selection of fantastic cars this year. Next year, we will need more cars for our display, and we will be looking for different cars to put in so everyone has a chance to show off their pride and joy. We will try to start recruiting cars earlier this year, most likely starting during our Wray Ford Show, so start polishing, waxing and perfecting your ponies so we can have plenty to choose from come September. Finally, kudos to your Board of Directors, especially the master minds behind the design and execution of our display, Mark Winderweedle and Gene Brock. Without them we would not have been able to pull of such a fantastic feat of a 22 foot tall display. They both spent many hours toiling away making our display a reality right up until show time. We also had a lot of help from Club members who came out on weekends to work on the display. If you want to get in on our display next year, please let a Board member know so we can get you involved. We always welcome and appreciate any help we can get. Next year, we need to tone it down some. We can t go any taller, since the building ceiling limits us from going any higher, so I am thinking we need to go more artistic than extravagant. Therefore we will be needing artists in the Club to help us out next year. That is as soon as the display Masterminds decide to tell us what the display theme will be... I can t wait. Thanks again for all who helped out! Thomas Monahan

Page 2 The Pony Express U P C O M I N G ACTIVITIES Hey all you Mustang Fans, It is almost time to get the show season started with Spring approaching quickly. Our month of February is fairly quiet, giving you time to get those ponies cleaned up and ready to hit the road in the months coming up. All we have on the calendar this month is our monthly Club meeting at Asbury Church on Airline Drive the first Saturday of the month at 5:00. We will be cruising this month to Denny's on Mansfield Rd for some yummy breakfast for dinner. The First Baptist Church of Shreveport on Ockley Drive is celebrating its 50 year anniversary on February 10th and is asking for some 60's and 70's models cars to park out front. Make and model is open to all cars and trucks. Not just Mustangs. Lets get a few people out there and show them that the Fords were the best looking cars of the era. The MOPAR Club has invited us to Holiday Lanes on Sunday, February 17 at 3:00 p.m. for a little friendly competitive bowling. We will bowl until 6:00 p.m. and then all go to the Texas Road House for dinner. Then the only other thing is our monthly Board meeting Wednesday the 20th, 6:30 at Reed Industrial off of Mt. Zion Rd. I hope everyone has a Happy Valentine's Day and hey, maybe you will get a car cleaning kit as a gift. Don't forget if you are on the Board we do have a Bylaw meeting this month. Nicole Ferlito, Activities Director 318-470-7581 twomanystangs@yahoo.com Darth Vader came to World of Wheels but the Force was not with him that day. He could not get Kevin s car to start... The Pony Express Page 3 M CA NEWS Let me get this out of the way. WOW! WHAT A TRIP!!! While attending the National Board of Directors meeting in Phoenix, we also worked the MCA membership booth at the Barrett Jackson auction in Scottsdale. If you ever get to see one of these auctions, you'll never forget all the excitement. Seeing it on TV is great; but in person much better. Now for MCA news. There'll be some changes on the MCA website in the near future. In the past only MCA members could see the list of venders who offered discounts. In the future nonmembers will be able to see it to. You'll still have to be a member to receive these discounts, but now nonmembers will be able to see what they're missing. So spread the word; lots of good things will be coming. Just keep checking the website. For those who have made hotel reservations for Beaumont TX in April or Disney World in September, please get you registrations for the shows in as soon as possible. Now for the plans for the 50th celebration in April 2014. There will be two show sites at the same time. Vegas and Charlotte. Plans are for people to meet in Mustang OK and cruise out from there to the two different sites. The Great American Pony Drive is setting up stops along both ways but they're still working on the routes. There's also something else added to the mix. I recently received word from Sam Haymart of Mustangs Across America and they have decided to do the cruise from CA to Charlotte. As with all the other cruises, they each work individually. Some of us cannot participate in the whole cruise event. I am one of those. I'll be checking both groups' routes to see which one is the best to meet up with. I do not have a website for the Pony Drive, but here's the one for Mustangs Across America: MustangsAcrossAmerica.com. The host hotel for Charlotte is the Embassy Suite that's near the racetrack. DO NOT TRY TO MAKE YOUR RESERVATION NOW. The contract price is still being negotiated. In Ron Bramlett's information letter he mentioned sometime in Feb. You can try it then and see if they'll put you on a list. Realistically you will probably have better luck in March or April. Past experience has taught me to call early and hope for the best. For all our new members, I strongly encourage you to think about this trip on or around April 17, 2014. It's a trip of a lifetime. Talk to those who have gone. You'll meet people from around the world. When I get more information, I'll let you all know. See you on the road, Donna www.mustang.org Our friends in the Mopar Club are holding their annual Mopar Nationals Car show on Saturday, March 23rd, at First Baptist Church in Shreveport and are asking for volunteer judges from our club. Be there by 11 to help judge some really nice Dodge products and they will feed you lunch and give you a t-shirt. They send several people every year to help judge our show, so it is our turn to help them out.
