Transport inside Tromsø Between the hotels and the university The University of Tromsø is located a few km north of the city centre. Public busses leave frequently from the city centre to the congress venue and back weekdays. Most convenient are Line 20 and 21, leaving every 5-10 minutes except Saturday. From and to the airport The airport is located close to the city centre and the university. Most convenient is taxi. Airport bus service between the centre and the airport leaves regularly. In the end of May the daytime temperature in Tromsø may be as low as 0 o C or as high as 26 o C. You should bring warm clothes for the boat trip, as it is always cold at sea by midnight. A minimum of sweater, scarf and warm shoes are mandatory. For the Welcome reception and excursion to Sommarøya, please dress casually with good walking shoes. Tourism There is a lot of tourist attractions in Tromsø. We recommend the Polar Museum, Tromsø Museum, Polaria and the Artic Cathedral. Sleeping We recommend strongly that you sleep well before arriving here as the people of North Norway don t sleep much during the midnight sun season. We expect you to adapt to the local tradition. Travel to Tromsø Tromsø is located incredibly far north. Most participants will arrive by airplane. You then have to travel via Oslo. There are two Airlines serving Oslo-Tromsø, Scandinavian Airline Systems (SAS) and Norwegian. The price of two one-way tickets equals the price of one return ticket. We recommend booking tickets early. There may be shortage of economy tickets Saturday. We warmly recommend you to stay in Tromsø until Sunday to have a closer look at our fantastic city and its surroundings. If you want to stay longer or arrive before the Congress starts to do tourism, our Congress bureau will be happy to help you. An attractive alternative may be to arrive (or leave) by the Coastal steamer from any place by the coast south of Tromsø from Bergen on, for instance Trondheim. This is called the most beautiful sea journey of the world.
