Welcome to 2017
Camp TEKO s Activities Welcome to Temple Israel s Camp TEKO! Camp TEKO is located on more than 18 acres of beautiful shoreline property on the North Arm Bay of Lake Minnetonka. For over 50 years, TEKO has provided fun, educational, and safe Jewish camping experiences for children. TEKO is a place where campers and staff make new friends, learn new skills, and explore their Jewish identities while enjoying the beautiful outdoors and gorgeous Lake Minnetonka. Accredited by the American Camp Association, TEKO offers programs for children who are entering grades K-6, as well as overnight camp programs for children entering grades 2-6. Campers spend the summer swimming and boating in the lake, playing on the sport court, using their creative skills in omanut (art), dancing to Israeli music, and improving their theatrical skills. Nurturing counselors and skilled specialists create a magical atmosphere for children to make meaningful memories. Each day, campers participate in 5 different chugim (activities) where they learn new skills and develop new talents with their friends and counselors. The chugim are: sports, swimming, teva (nature), boating, drama, dance, shirah (music), Hebrew through movement, and omanut (arts & crafts). At TEKO, Hebrew, Judaics, and Israeli culture are engrained in all the facets of the campers day. Campers perform plays about Jewish holidays, create Judaic art pieces, play games with Israeli staff and more! Chugim are planned for campers by specialists with experience and passion in their given field. Campers spend the day with their group, and one other group, their walk-around group, moving from one chug to the next. Transportation Camp TEKO provides safe and reliable bus service to and from camp each day. A TEKO bus captain and other trained staff engage the campers with games and songs. Bus stops around the metropolitan area allow for convenient drop off and pick up. Morning pick-up times are 8:20-8:45 a.m. and afternoon drop-off times are 3:50-4:15 p.m. Bus information will be sent after registration and will include the specific times for each stop. We are excited for you to join us for a great summer at camp! L Shalom, Haylee Davis Camp Director 612-374-0349 hdavis@ The TEKO Bus Cup is a weekly favorite. Each bus competes in dances, cheers, tzedakah, costumes, and ruach (spirit) to win the cup trophy for the week.
TEKO Programs Camp TEKO welcomes campers entering grades K-6 to our Monday - Friday program. Campers start each day at the TEKO bus stop where they are greeted by friendly and enthusiastic staff. Staff ensure that campers feel welcome from the moment they arrive. After a ruach (spirit)-filled ride to camp complete with songs and games, all TEKO campers gather together at the beginning of the day with Hebrew songs, prayers, and raising the Israeli and American flags. Then campers go with their groups to the first three chugim (activity rotations). Campers join back together to enjoy their packed lunches as a community before their final two chugim of the day. TEKO campers gather once again at the end of the day to lower the flag and say goodbye for the afternoon. Campers then proceed to the bus where they receive their snack and discuss their day with counselors and friends on the ride home. Chalutzim Weeklong Overnight Chalutzim overnight camp is for campers entering grades 2-6. The Chalutzim overnight occurs the last week of sessions Bet and Gimmel. Campers arrive with overnight gear on Friday morning, and their weeklong overnight begins at the end of the camp day. Campers celebrate Shabbat and enjoy a weekend of special programs along with swimming and boating. On Monday morning campers join with the rest of camp during the day. Their evenings are filled with campfires, song sessions, and special events. TEKO provides all meals for overnight campers. Giborim One-Night Overnight Campers entering grades 3-6 have the opportunity to stay at Camp TEKO for one night, at no additional charge. This gives campers the opportunity to try sleeping in a cabin for the first time or for those with experience, for one night away. Check your email during the summer for sign-up information.
