President s Notes By Steve Goodman Hello fellow PPCC members: I thought that summer heat might be winding down but that wasn't the case at the picnic this month. 97 degrees in Denver and nearly 90 in Franktown. Oh well, better than driving in snow!! The picnic/swap meet is a memorial for the late Dale Wilshire; member of both RMC and PPCC who gave willing much of his time to be an officer and worker in both clubs. It was hosted by RMC and a total of 66 members and family and 20 cars were registered for the show n shine. RMC member Larry Schubert and RMC VP Ed Halpin (who also is a PPCC member) were the organizers and PPCC member Patricia Fox lent numerous hands to ensure the two clubs worked together. Thank you all. The picnic site this year was a home near Franktown belonging to Don Nelson. Don had worked for Chevron Oil Company and had collected memorabilia from filling stations through the years and Don also gave a talk about some of the history of oil companies in general and his involvement with the construction of new gas stations and the impact it often had with the general public. Cooking duties were handled by RMC new member Justin Henry who fought a runaway grill but managed to turn out good hamburgers and hot dogs, thanks Justin. The car show winner was Dale Nielson in his 65 Monza coupe, a member of RMC. Furthest member was Tim Shortle (RMC) from Durango, he drove his FC pickup across the mountains. The member count was: RMC 55 and PPCC 14 and a couple of guests, 5 are members of both clubs so don't add the numbers together. PPCC members included: Mark King and family--steve Goodman, Joan and Laura Wilshire-- John and Jeannie Koll--Peter Frantz and wife--garrie and Patricia Fox--Paul and Pat Campbell and Kermit Shields. Thanks to all who brought great side dishes, thanks to RMC for being good hosts and to Don Nelson for giving his time. Remember that September 12 is the normal meeting at the Golden Corral on Woodmen Road and Powers and the main topic will be the fall tour which will ben on Sunday, September 26 andend in Guffey at the Bullmoose Tavern. More details inside. See you all on Sept. 12 at the Golden Corral IDIOT SIGHTING : I live in a semi rural area. We recently had a new neighbor call the local township administrative office to request the removal of the DEER CROSSING sign on our road. The reason: 'Too many deer are being hit by cars out here! I don't think this is a good place for them to be crossing anymore.' Page 3

Thanks, RMC! Many thanks to our friends at Rocky Mountain Corsa for inviting us to join them at their annual picnic. It was a hot day, but the surroundings were beautiful and the drive was great. Paul and Pat Campbell were the only known hard luck attendees (broken fan belt), but they had lots of help from PPCC members John Koll, Peter Frantz and Kermit Shields, A very special thanks to our hosts Don and Dorothy Nelson for making their home available to all of us. Don, thanks for sharing the trip through time to tell us about the history of gas stations. I was shocked at how many of the old days I happened to recall. Paul Campbell Dripline Editor Garrie Fox and Friend enter Car Show at Peterson AFB This '38 Pontiac was languishing in his garage, hardly running at all. My neighbor and I found the leak from the exhaust manifold into the intake manifold on his 1938 Pontiac over the last few months of trouble shooting and he is now happily on the road now. Like Corvairs, we easily found the parts needed. and it is so nice that he won the Pontiac Nationals three times in past years. He asked me to take a Corvair to the show and ours was the only Corvair. It was a fun afternoon with lots of people making inquiry about the Crown Conversion V8 Corvair. I always wear my PPCC name badge and tell the public about how inexpensive the Corvair hobby is compared to other cars of the era. And yes, lots of people say their parents or relatives had one at some point in the past! Page 7

Secretary s Report PPCC meeting of August 8, 2010 Minutes of last month s meeting were approved as published. We missed Jon Anderson. There were no door prizes! We missed John Koll. There was no treasurer s report. Darren reports membership is moving along fine. It was decided the fall tour will take place on September 26th. The destination is the Bullmoose Restaurant in Guffey, Colorado Paul Campbell moved to make a cash donation to the National Corsa convention 2011. Steve and Ed appreciated the suggestion but agreed that volunteers are needed much more than money as Rocky Mountain Corsa has the financial situation well in hand. Neal East Brought Steve a box of magazines, catalogues, tech manuals, etc. some are real collector s items. Contact Steve for more info. The price for the whole box is $75. Meeting adjourned.
