Art Architecture Culture Cuisine Histor Honfleur DAY ONE IN TRANSIT Depart for Paris, France.A DAY TWO PARIS, FRANCE HONFLEUR Upon arrival, transfera to Honfleur, and check in to the Mercure Honfleur Hotel. Tonight at the hotel, meet your fellow travelers at a Welcome Reception, and then gather for a Welcome Dinner at a restaurant in the area. DAY THREE B L HONFLEUR Discovery: Cider and Cheese. Normandy has an enduring tradition of producing specialty cheeses that are among France s best with the rich milk of the Normande cows. Visit a charming dairy farm to get a firsthand look at the cheesemaking process. Sample a variety of delicious, freshly made cheeses and taste the crisp local cider, another classic Norman creation. Lunch on specialties of the region at an Honfleur restaurant. YOUR INDIVIDUAL EXPERIENCE Free time means something different to every traveler. Some people like to linger in a cozy café, while others prefer to stay on the go. Get to know your home base as you stroll the narrow streets of this quintessential French port town. Delight in the quaint maritime atmosphere of its 17thcentury Vieux Bassin, or old harbor, that has captivated artists for centuries. Located where the Seine River meets the English Channel, Honfleur became an important trading gateway and a launching point for exploration from the 16th to 18th centuries. See the wooden Church of Sainte-Cathérine, crafted by 15th-century shipbuilders, and other Honfleur landmarks. Free Time: Explore Honfleur at your leisure. DAY FOUR MONT SAINT-MICHEL Discovery: Le Mont-Saint-Michel. With one glimpse of Mont Saint-Michel s silhouette rising above the surrounding flat, white sands, you ll know why this UNESCO World Heritage site is considered a wonder of the Western world. On a guided tour, explore this intriguing island, and visit the serene abbey church. If you d like, walk along the ramparts to watch the tides and marvel at the panoramic vistas. DAY FIVE HONFLEUR Free Time: Spend the day pursuing your own passions, or take part in the Elective Activity. ELECTIVE Giverny and Rouen. Delve into Claude Monet s life and work at his home in Giverny. Admire the beautiful garden that endlessly inspired him, and visit the studio B B

y Rouen Normandy & D-Day Les Braves, Omaha Beach where he painted his Water Lilies series. Continue to the Musée des Impressionnismes Giverny, which reveals impressionism s history and its influence on a local colony of American artists. Learn how Normandy became the cradle of impressionism during an engaging lecture, and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Travel to Rouen and see its exquisite cathedral, famously captured by Monet in a series of paintings, and the ornate clock, Gros Horloge. Hear the haunting story of Joan of Arc, who was martyred in the town square. DAY SIX B L D D-DAY BEACHES Enrichment: Discover the crucial role that the beaches of Normandy played in D-Day, one of the most pivotal moments in World War II. Discovery: D-Day and the Battle of Normandy. Take a poignant journey along Normandy s beaches, the theater for Operation Overlord, one of history s most complex and important military campaigns. Visit the Arromanches museum and Pointe du Hoc, where U.S. rangers scaled the cliffs. Reflect at Omaha Beach, where courageous U.S. forces persevered through heavy enemy fire, and see the Les Braves memorial. Pay tribute to the fallen during a visit to the Normandy American Cemetery. Break for lunch while in Arromanches. Tonight, savor a wonderful meal during dinner in Honfleur s scenic harbor. On June 6, 1944, despite mounting challenges, a heroic formation of Allied troops achieved the largest coordinated military invasion in world history on the beaches of Normandy, triggering the beginning of the end of World War II. General Dwight D. Eisenhower s troops faced heavy resistance and saw thousands of casualties, but they succeeded in securing the beaches and marching on to Paris to free France from German control. Both a tactical and psychological blow to Hitler and his troops, D-Day will forever be remembered as the moment of World War II when the tide began to turn against the Nazis. DAY SEVEN B L CAEN BAYEUX Discovery: Le Mémorial de Caen. Visit the award-winning Caen Memorial Museum and gain intriguing insights about World War II, D-Day and the Battle of Normandy through its engrossing exhibits, photos and videos. Calvados, Normandy s famous apple cider brandy, is among the world s finest brandies. Visit a farm that distills Calvados from the apples grown on its 42 acres of orchards. Relax over lunch on the farm, and then sip a glass of smooth Calvados. Discovery: Bayeux. View the famed Bayeux Tapestry, a 200-foot-long, embroidered work of art that vividly depicts more than 50 scenes of William the Conqueror and the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Then, step inside Bayeaux s beautiful cathedral to see its Gothic details.
