ASC e-news Electronic news from the Adelaide Soaring Club Number 23/2016 29 th Nov October, 2016 Welcome to the latest edition of the ASC e-news. Welcome At the last Committee meeting we welcomed the followed new members into our club: Leonard Zec, Simran Kaur, Ekala Buck, Brian Smith, Matthew Gordon, John Healey, Wael Al Jammal, Chun Hung Li Kai Hin Yuen, Mike Yam, Craig Oswald, Carina Law, Luke Wendland, Finlay Poole Another fine day at Gawler. By Geoff Wood It was a great day at Gawler on Sunday 27 November. The sky was blue, the winds were light, and many ASC members were out and about enjoying the best that Gawler, flying and the ASC have to offer. First off were the several members who flew to Truro Flats on the Christmas Toy Run you will have seen Mick Wright s invitation to take part. Apart from Mick himself in his Auster, other supporters included Marc Michell in the Thatcher, Paul Clift in his Minimax, Steve Lovegrove in the Bulldog, and John Cooper-Smart in his Savannah. Chad Thornton took the new ASC Jabiru. Rumour is Santa really appreciated their efforts. Gliders out included the father and son Libelles of Peter and Steve Cesco: Club gliders worked hard all day and the Air Cadets had their ASK21 out as well. Bruce Tuncks and Geoff Wood flew north in their gliders and reported heights up to 7500 ft in the blue. A highlight of the day was a visit from the Rover Car Club of SA led by former ASC member Geoff Rogers. A number of members their members took glider flights as well. Peter Sachs worked hard to make this a success for both the Rover Club and ASC thanks Peter.

All in all, a top day, with many more to come now the good weather has arrived. Congratulation Nat and Bret on going solo Many thanks to ex-asc member Sub Lieutenant Arvids Quinn and his crew for flying the Australian Air Force Cadets on Nov the 19 th. And also to Patrick for his work to make this happen.

Congratulation Matthew Human Factors Training Day All Attendees need to register with the ASC office at adsoar@adsl.net.au or Ph: (08) 8522 1877 The Venue: Adelaide Soaring Club - Gawler Airfield. The Date: Sunday December 4th. 2016. The Time: 0900 ~ 1630. Catering: Morning tea and BBQ lunch provided on site All things strategic You will recall that there has been a proposal about building onto our deck area at the club rooms? At the last committee meeting it was decided that a focus for the coming period will be to develop a strategic plan for our club moving into the future. In light of that it was decided that we should consider the deck as a part of our overall strategic intentions, in line with other matters such as the entrance road and other developments around our club. Stay tuned! Exciting times!

Help! If you are able to offer some support by being regularly available to mow/slash around the airfield, then please contact Tom (our General Airfield Manager.) National Police Certificates Last week all of our Gliding Air Experience Instructors, Flight Coordinators, Committee Members and Staff should have received an email informing them of our club s responsibility towards child protection and our policy which requires these officers to have a current National Police Certificate. In the letter it stated that you simply need to have this cited by one of our staff. This is incorrect as our policy actually states that only Tom Leech, Judy Smith or Daryl Trigg are authorised to see the National Police Certificates. Certainly we appreciate your support in attending to this important matter as soon as possible. Club Aircraft Members flying LSA aircraft are strongly encouraged to fly club aircraft in preference to cross hired aircraft when there is an option. How do you know if it s a club aircraft? It has our logo on the side (and the financial benefits to the club are quite significant.) This also means that club owned aircraft should be parked closer to the door for easier access! Barossa Airshow This great event is on again on the 2 nd April 2017.
