Club Information Havasu Gold Seekers, Inc. is a non-profit gold seekers club in Lake Havasu City, Arizona with 15 gold bearing claims, covering over 320 acres. The Club was started in early 1991 when a small group of Lake Havasu City residents got together for the purpose of recreational gold prospecting in the desert near Lake Havasu City, Arizona. The Club started with about 20 men and women and grew slowly until February of 1992 when Captain Dan McCarty and seven other members formed an association and filed four placer claims totaling 640 acres. At the very next club meeting the Club elected officers and adopted by-laws. The newly elected President, Dan McCarty, Vice-President, Denny Craig, and Secretary, Elaine Babb, had the tough job of making things work well for the benefit of all club members. From that point on the Club has grown to almost 300 members. HGS purchased its own land near the claims for Club activities such as family outings, BB's, camping and of course, GOLD PROSPECTING! From September through May, the Havasu Gold Seekers, Inc. meets in the Havasu Room at Quality Inn & Suites Motel on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. The Board Meeting precedes the general meeting at 6:00 p.m. Yearly individual or family membership dues are $40 and are due by December 31. Family membership includes family members under 18. The initiation fee for a new membership is $100. The total cost for new members the first year is $140 and $40 thereafter. The dues help us pay for club functions, miscellaneous expenses, and fees on HGS gold claims. Anyone wishing to join the Havasu Gold Seekers must fill out a Membership Application and a Hold Harmless Agreement. Take your application and agreement to a Club meeting or mail it along with your check to: Havasu Gold Seekers, Inc. P.O. Box 3281 Lake Havasu City, Az. 86405-3281 The Prospector is published on-line monthly, except for June, July and August. The submission deadline for the next issue is the Saturday after the General Meeting. Common Dig Rules PLEASE ABIDE BY THE FOLLOWING RULES No early birds No buckets filled before start time. Do not cut tree roots or cactus, and as always, leave access open to where equipment is classifying for dirt removal. MEMBER S GUEST NOT ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN COMMON DIGS. COMMON DIG AREA IS CLOSED AT ALL TIMES EXCEPT FOR THE SATURDAY AND SUNDAY OF THE DIG. The area opens at the scheduled time of the dig on Saturday and closes on Sunday at sunset. COMMON DIG AREA IS CLEARLY MARKED WITH PVC PIPE AND FLAGS. Meeting Minutes March 2016 The meeting was called to order by President Dennis Lusby. A roll call of officers was held with all Officers and Board Members present. Following the pledge of Allegiance to the Flag new members and guests were introduced. A motion was made, seconded and passed to accept the minutes from the previous meeting as printed in the February newsletter. Treasurer Norb Kiesling gave the treasurers report for February and it was accepted as read. The members observed a moment of silence honoring 2 of our members that passed away this last month; John Dunn and Jim Dau. Representatives of John Dunn s family announced that a celebration of Johns life will be held at 11:00 AM on April 2, at the Elks Club. Activities: -A Camp Clean-up day will be held on March 12 th starting at 9:00. A Chicken BBQ lunch will be provided at 1:00 to 2:00 for all helpers. -Treasure Hunt/Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner at Camp on Saturday March 19 th, treasure hunt at 12:00 dinner at 2:00. Price is $15 per detector, dinner is free. You don t have to enter the Treasure Hunt to enjoy the corned beef and cabbage dinner. More information and sign-up at the next meeting. Claims: Ron announced that we will have a common dig this month starting at 8:00 AM with hot dogs provided for lunch. He also reminded everyone that he is the trash master at camp and that we would like everyone to separate their bottles and cans and deposit them in the marked containers by the Restrooms. The money from the can recycling helps pay for the gas for the well generator to provide water for camp. Base Camp: Roy reported that there are 4 spots available at camp. He also mentioned that the maintenance fees for camp spaces are due now. 3 Newsletter: Send any ads or interesting items to Bruce. If you want the newsletter emailed to you get your email address to Bruce and he will add your name to the mass mailing. He also has nametags for those people that ordered them. Membership: James reported that we now have 230 members. He also reminded people to check the bulletin board on the website for updates. New Business: Dennis announced that the warm weather has brought out the snakes, a couple have been spotted around camp so watch your step. Dennis announced that the club has picked up a smaller tractor with a bucket and a back blade the will be used for maintenance around camp and for use at the common dig. Thanks to Roy for finding, buying and delivering the tractor to camp. Norb brought up a letter from Joe M. alerting us to changes that BLM has proposed that would increase the cost of a mining claim and eliminate the Small Miner Waiver that allows people with less than 10 claims to pay $10 per claim and do maintenance work in lieu of the full claim fees. If this is pushed through the legislature everyone would have to pay the full price for every claim. This doesn t affect the club fees since BLM already makes us pay the full amount because we are a corporation. We will be digging into the situation and keep people informed. Dennis announced that a sign-up sheet will be available at the camp cleanup day to be listed as an operator for the tractor and the backhoe. Instructions for the operation of the 2 tractors will be available. The list will be required for the insurance company. Roger A. will be updating First Aid kits for all of the buildings at Camp. The drawing for door prizes was held. The meeting was adjourned
