Class time: 60 minutes Whiteside Mountain Hikes Elevation 4,930 ft - This landmark along the Eastern Continental Divide is famous for its postcard view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Whiteside Mountain is about 390 to 460 millions years old and legend says it is the oldest rock in the world. A 2-mile loop that goes around the back or north side of the mountain and then along the ridge gives visitors a chance to view a variety of wildflowers. The total climb is approximately 500 ft. The trail can be walked in an hour but you will want to allow plenty of time to take in the vistas. Hike time: Approximately 2 hours (weather permitting)
