ELTE Eötvös Lóránd University School of English and American Studies (SEAS)

The University ELTE is an internationally recognized university located in the heart of Budapest. The university was founded more than 370 years ago and has the recognition of excellence: it has been ranked as the top Hungarian university. Amongst the faculty members and alumni there are many world-famous scientists and four Nobel Prize winners. There is an academic staff of 1800 highly qualified lecturers/researchers and about 32 000 students studying on the university s competitive programmes. If you would like to be part of our community, please keep reading. SEAS The School of English and American Studies is one of the largest institutes of the Faculty of Humanities of Eötvös Lóránd University with more than 350 courses offered. The campus is in the very centre of Budapest. Due to its central location, it is easy to access. Buses 5, 7, 8, 8A, 9, 107, 112, 133, 178, 233, 239 and trams 47 and 49 stop at the campus stop "Astoria". M2 underground is also an option as it also stops there. The building is about 100 meters from Astoria. From the M3 and M4 underground station "Kálvin tér" it is only a 10 minute walk to the campus. Courses Erasmus students can attend any of the many courses the Faculty of Humanities offers. Within the majors of English or American Studies you can either choose one of the minors or a specialization module (English in Business, Journalism, Drama and Theatre, Film and Culture etc.). For more information please visit the website below. http://seaswiki.elte.hu/studies/ba/specialization http://www.btk.elte.hu/en/ba/foreign 2

Students Social Life on Campus Our campus has no less than 5 restaurants such as 6-8. Presszó, Kupola Büfé, Building D Snack Bar, XO Bistro and the famous Trefort Kert where university parties often take place. These spots are all great for meeting new people and making new friends because most students gather here during the breaks between classes. Several events, such as sport tournaments, trainings and theme parties are also organized by our students, which you can RSVP to on our Facebook page. Accommodation Halls of residence You can apply for a place in 5 different halls with great public transport nearby via ELTE. Our halls are the perfect place to meet other students and as they are very cheap (around 32/month), moving in could be a great way to save some money! Flats Whether you like modern or older flats, you can choose from tons of options! If you go for the more elegant look, we recommend you look for an flat in a block somewhere in the centre, for example in Király Street or Astoria. As you may know, Budapest is a fast developing city; so there are many modern flats to rent all around the city go to Corvin sétány, and see for yourself! The prices may vary, but the average rent is around 150 300/month. For more information please visit the link below. http://www.kolhok.elte.hu/languages/en/elte-kolhok 3

Budapest is a great city with great nightlife. Povilas Lithuania Budapest is freaking fun!! Darian USA Budapest Budapest, the capital and largest city of Hungary has tremendous possibilities to offer to its visitors. It s often referred to as the Pearl of the Danube (a river that crosses the middle of the city) because of its beautiful sights. It has been included on the list of Forbes, The Guardian, The Telegraph and many other news sites as one of the most affordable cities in Europe. It was also nominated Europe s number one greatest city by Condé Nast Traveler Readers Choice Awards 2013. Why is Budapest so popular amongst tourists? The top 5 reasons are: Budapest is a very exciting city; it has its unique vibe. It is a beautiful place with amazing nightlife. There are really good bars and restaurants as well as clubs. Downtown Budapest by the Danube River is just simply breathtakingly beautiful at night. Mo China 1. It s cheap, yet terrific 2. It s a fun place for everyone regardless of age or nationality 3. It has a variety of entertainment due to the capital s vibrant and diverse art scene 4. The city is full of life 5. It has amazing food and places to eat What I love about Budapest is that it has so many sights and highlights, yet not many tourists are aware about this. Like London, Paris and Amsterdam, for example, which attract so many tourists but Budapest is just as nice. Kristy Netherlands I love and enjoy traveling so much. My first visit to Budapest was in May 2014 and I already fell in love with that city. It's truly romantic, especially in the evening. The local people can speak English and are very nice and hospitable to tourists like me. Budapest offers delicious food as well, like lecso, goulash soup, krémes, csirke, jokai soup and sausage, to name a few. The public transportation is so easy to learn and not expensive. I will surely keep coming back to this lovely city. Rachelle Philippines 4

Budapest FOOD in Budapest Hungary has a rich gastronomic culture. From Hungarian specialities, gastro, fast and street food to a variety of international places - Japanese, Italian, Mexican or French you name it - everything is available. There are restaurants, coffee shops, confectionaries (with some of the best Hungarian desserts) and breakfast places on every second corner in the centre. From small and cozy places to huge, very fancy and elegant restaurants, you can find anything. Top places: Bock Bistro (for Hungarian dishes), Daubner Confectionary (for those with a sweet tooth), My Little Melbourne Coffee Shop (for coffee lovers), Villa Bagatelle or Á Table (for breakfast), Szeráj (for street food), Tom George, (for Italian food) SIGHTSEEING in Budapest Budapest is culturally rich with tremendous tourist attractions. World Heritage sites, Cultural Avenue, City Park, extraordinary buildings, spas, bridges, monuments and parks are just some of the sites that are a must-see. Top 8 sightseeing destinations: Fisherman s Bastion, Margit Island, St. Stephen s Basilica, Heroes Square, Szechenyi Thermal Bath, Chain Bridge, Hungarian Parliament, Buda Castle, FESTIVALS in/near Budapest Budapest offers year-round entertainment in the form of festivals, cultural events, exhibitions, fairs and national celebrations. The uniqueness of having such events all through the year is an attraction to many. There are all kinds of festivals, such as: Season related festivals: Fridge Festival, Christmas Market, Spring Festival Music Festivals in every genre: Volt, Balaton Sound, Sziget (one of the biggest festivals in Europe, people come from all over the world, in 2014 there were about 410 000 visitors) NIGHTLIFE in Budapest The nightlife in Budapest is very busy. There are ruin pubs, which are one of the specialities of the country, bars of all kinds (sky bars, open air bars, yards full of bars) clubs and streets jam-packed with places to go out. Our favorites: Szimpla Kert, KIOSK (ruin pubs), Fröccsterasz (open-air bar), 360 bar (sky terrace), Hello Baby, Instant, Ötkert (clubs), Gozsdu Udvar (countless number of bars, restaurants all in one place), SPARTY (Thermal Bath party) 5
