Monday, 23rd April TRAVEL TO LONDON (23rd 27th April, 2007)

We arrived at London Stansted Airport at about 10.20 (local time) at took the Terravision Shuttle Bus to Victoria Station. From Victoria St. we took the underground (see map: http://www.afn.org/~alplatt/tube.html ) to Sussex Gardens and left our luggage at the B&B Balmoral House. Then, back on the underground to Westminster: Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Dean s Yard, 10 Downing Street (Prime Minister s official residence), etc. We had a drink at a pub and finally we had dinner at the Pizza Hut in the Soho area. Tuesday, 24 th April Up at about 07.00 and breakfast at 08.00 (a complete English breakfast: bacon and eggs, sausages, toast, orange juice, coffee and scones or croissants). We went to the National Gallery (have a look at the most important paintings in: http://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/collection/glance.htm) and saw the pictures by Monet, Manet, Van Gogh, Renoir, Seurat, Rousseau, the Spanish painters (Murillo, Velázquez & Zurbarán), the Dutch painters (van Eyck, Vermeer, Van Dyck & Rubens), Canaletto, Gainsborough and Reynolds.

After nearly three hours in the museum, we walked through Admiralty Arch and along The Mall towards Buckingham Palace and had lunch sitting on the grass in St. James s Park. We walked back to TrafalgarSquare through St. James s park and visited St Martin-in-the-Fields before taking the underground to Covent Garden where we had some free time to visit the place and the shops. It was still mid afternoon so we went by underground to the Tower of London, we crossed the Tower Bridge and walked through St. Katherine s Dock. Then we decided to go back to the B&B and leave all the bags we had been carrying and finally we had dinner at

an Italian restaurant (Ristorante Biagio) in Piccadilly Circus. Wednesday, 25th April Up again at 07.00 but this time we left for the British Museum. There we visited the Egyptian Rooms (revisit the mummies and learn more about them: http://www.ancientegypt.co.uk/mummies/home.html ), the Roman and Greek Rooms and the Chinese Rooms. We left the museum and had fish & chips for lunch. We walked a bit around the area up to Russell Square (and Russell Hotel) and took the underground to Portobello. We went for a walk along Portobello Road and Notting Hill (although it was not market day) and then took the underground to Harrod s.

After some free time there we went to Chelsea, to have a look at the area where the rich famous people live in London. We decided to take a doubledecker bus to Stanford Bridge, the Chelsea football club stadium and walked round it while hearing the shouts of the Chelsea s and Liverpool s supporters. Back to the underground and dinner at a Chinese restaurant in Chinatown (we weren t lucky with the restaurant and the food was horrible). On the way to the hotel, some of us buy something to eat at the 24-hour shop in London Street.

Thursday, 26th April Up at the same time as the day before and when we left the B&B we headed for the London Eye (nice views of the Thames and nice picture of our backs and bottoms). Next we went on a 30-minute cruise on the river Thames.

We got off the ship and had lunch on our way to visit the Tate Modern. If you want to have a look at the exhibitions, go to http://www.tate.org.uk/modern/ After the museum we crossed the Millenium Bridge towards St Paul s cathedral and back again to the Globe Theatre.

It started to rain heavily so we sheltered for a couple of minutes before we took the underground to Little Venice.

After a short walk along the canal we went back to Soho for dinner and back to the B&B. Friday, 27th April Up at about 01.00 a.m. to take the night bus from Paddington to Victoria through the city centre, so we could see the people were still at the nightclubs enjoying their night out. At Victoria Station we took the shuttle bus to Stansted airport. Our plane left at 08.00 a.m. and we arrived in Santiago at 11.00 (local time). We were in Rábade at 13.00 on Friday, 27th April, as scheduled.
