Market Overview U.S. and Brazil form new Visa Waiver Program working group to facilitate development of visa-free travel to U.S. from Brazil During her trip to Brazil during the week of July 9, 2012, U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano took the first steps to facilitating visa-free travel between the United States and Brazil by announcing on July 11, 2012 the establishment of a Visa Waiver Program (VWP) working group with Brazil. U.S. Travel has been working closely with the Administration and identified expansion of the VWP as one of its top legislative priorities in 2012. In fact, letters from U.S. Travel and its CEO Roundtable last year and the Discover America Partnership in April and earlier last week, were the first to call on the President to form this type of bilateral working group, and Secretary Napolitano deserves our thanks for taking this important step. If included in the program, the hundreds of thousands of new Brazilian visitors annually would spend $1.5 billion, supporting 22,600 American jobs, according to U.S. Travel estimates. Now that the working group is established, we can expect that the two countries will begin to negotiate the various security agreements that must be signed in order to advance Brazil's entry into VWP. It's worth noting that this action gets Brazil one step closer to visa-free travel. Brazil Visa Waiver: White House announcement of $40 million investment in existing facilities plus two new U.S. Consulates in Brazil to expedite visa processing Great news for our industry and the U.S. as a whole came last month when President Barack Obama and Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff committed to work together so that Brazil meets the requirements for entrance into the U.S. Visa Waiver Program (VWP). Entrance to the VWP would mean that citizens from Brazil could travel to the U.S. for up to 90 days without a U.S. visa - helping to drive millions of new travelers to the U.S. To acquire this visa-free status, Brazil will need to be certified by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as meeting stringent security standards. In the interim, in order to continue to decrease visa processing wait times in Brazil the White House announced that consulates would soon be opened in Belo Horizonte and Porto Alegre, and committed to adding visa processing capacity by investing $40 million in existing facilities in Brazil, increasing consular staffing and streamlining the visa process. The document was signed by the secretariat of the Department of Homeland Security of the United States, Janet Napolitano and the Brazilian Minister for Foreign Relationship, Antonio Patriota. The countries agreed on the creation of a working group dedicated to matters related to Visas (GTV). The first meeting should take place by November in Washington. The initiative is part of the bilateral cooperation, as agreed between the President Rousseff and the President Barack Obama on April this year in Washington.

At the time, both pledged to strengthen collaboration "to meet the requirements of the Visa Waiver Program of the United States and Brazilian legislation, in order to enable citizens of the United States and Brazil travel between the two countries without visa ". Source: Agência Brasil online Period: July 11 Switzerland Tourism bets in MICE industry in Brazil Without putting aside the leisure segment, Switzerland Tourism is focusing on MICE in Brazil for the coming years. In the organization there is section, whose acronym is SCIB, which is dedicated to the MICE and now the main focus for the coming year is Brazil, India and China. Period: July 02 Emirates takes 22,000 passengers from Rio to Dubai in 6 months After 6 months of operation, Emirates disseminates the results achieved. The flight Dubai - Rio - Buenos Aires recorded the average occupancy of 75%, divided between leisure and corporate passengers. The daily flight made 22, 000 people traveled to Dubai and 19, 000 to Buenos Aires. China and India have been identified as the two nations that sent more passengers to Brazil. The new destinations are Adelaide (Australia), Lyon (France) and Warsaw (Poland). The airline begins to operate in Adelaide on November 1, initially with four weekly flights and as of February shall be daily. On December 5, Emirates will begin the operations with five flights per week in Lyon, becoming the third French destination, in addition to Paris and Nice. 55 million tourists have visited Orlando in 2011 It represents an increase of 7.2% over 2010, which accredited Orlando as the most visited city in the period. The domestic visitors reached 51.3 million an increase of 75% over the previous year. The international visitors totaled 3.8 million an increase of 3.5% over 2010. "This is an extremely positive new for the destination. We kept up with the strong recovery in our numbers of visitors over the past two years, led by growth of domestic and international travel and remain optimistic about the future," explains the President of Visit Orlando, Paul Tang. In 2011, Visit Orlando, reinforcing the slogan Orlando is only joy, has began new marketing campaigns especially in Canada, UK and Brazil. To Claudia Wolf, Visit Orlando Representative in Brazil, the campaigns were the key to this growth and reinforce the importance of the international tourism to the city. The Brazilians visitors are the ones who travel most to Florida. According to Visit Florida s data, 1.4 million Brazilians visited the state in 2011, expending more than $2 billion in Florida. The airline already flies regularly to Milan, Venice, Florence and Rome. Swiss offers flights from Sao Paulo to Europe with its hub in Zurich, where connects to Italy, including the new destination. Period: July 13 France sets record for international tourist arrivals France confirmed its position as the first tourist destination in the world beating the previous record of foreign tourists in 2010 at over 4.8% to 81.4 million, indicates the annual report of the General Competitiveness of Industry and Services (DGCIS). The French press informed that the growth occurred "despite the political and economical unstable international context". Number of Brazilians in Canada grows 6% in May According to the Canadian Tourism Commission s data, the number of Brazilians visiting the country has grown 6.8% in May, representing 7.021 visitors. The numbers are part of a monthly monitoring considering its 11 priority markets and the comparison is related to the previous month. Countries monitored by CTC: Germany: 28,556 (+ 0.1%) Australia: 30,954 ( - 3.5% ) Brazil: 7,021 (+ 6.8 %) China: 22,630 ( + 22%) South Korea: 12,699 ( - 8.7%) United States: 999,664 ( + 3%) France: 34,899 ( - 2.1%) India: 20,495 ( + 20.8%) Japan: 17,355 (+ 4%) Mexico: 11,675 ( + 10.5%) UK: 62,839 ( - 7.7%) Period: July 20 BRIC countries spend $ 1 trillion in business travel The GBTA announced its fourth annual report for the corporate market projections for the next five years, BTI GBTA Outlook Annual Global Report of Forecast and Outlook for the corporate market from 2012 to 2016. The document shows that in 2011, the emerging markets like Brazil, Russia, India and China, the BRIC members, had 15% growth on business travel spending. The result exceeded, for example, the performance of the United States and Western Europe. The expenses of these four countries increased by 4.6%, reaching $ 1.07 trillion. The expectation for 2013 is that the number will reach 8.1%. The report predicts that China will be the country that is going to move the corporate market in the world, surpassing the United States, which has reduced spending on this kind of trip because of the economic crisis.
