Congratulations on purchasing your Glacial Shell Product Training Kit! As any cold therapy product carries with it inherent risks, Glacial Shells are no exception. With safety being our highest priority, we instituted the Protocol Training Kit (or PTK ) program to make sure our customers get the required education for proper and safe use of Glacial Shells. The PTK will give you the opportunity to experiment with the shells, develop your own specific protocols, and train your staff prior to incorporating this service at your facility. To supplement the PTK, your Account Manager will schedule required educational training via conference call. During this one-on-one training session, we can address any questions that you may have and pass on tips we ve collected from our own research and other customers. More importantly, it will provide you with a complete explanation of product safety guidelines. Each PTK also contains a required Customer Usage Agreement that outlines your responsibilities as a Glacial Shell Professional. Company policy prohibits shipment of additional Glacial Shell products until you have satisfied the following requirements: 1. Reviewed the PTK Guide 2. Completed the product educational training via conference call 3. Signed and returned the Customer Usage Agreement via fax, email, or mail If you have any questions, don t hesitate to contact your Account Manager, who will be happy to assist you with everything you need. On behalf of the entire PerfectSense Professional family, thank you for adding Glacial Shells into your treatment services. We look forward to working with you to make every treatment a great success for you and your clients. For online download visit: http://www.sparev.com/prof-edu.htm 3

A B O U T T H E S H E L L S The Porcelain Glacial Shells are handcrafted using high quality porcelain and crushed shells. Each shell is hand painted, replicating the beautiful luster and appearance of natural shells. They have been cast from the ideal ergonomic natural shell and are more uniform in size and thickness. The HINGE forms a small, rounded knob on the back of every Glacial Shell. If you re looking for a way to stimulate pressure points or work deep into small, tight knots or problem areas, the HINGE is the way to go. Use this portion of the shell for your deepest, most penetrating work. : The CROWN of the Glacial Shell is a smooth, carefully polished, gently rounded surface. It s the most versatile of the shell s parts and the one that transmits the greatest amount of coolness. The CROWN is ideal for long broad strokes across major muscle groups, especially along the spine, over the calves and thighs, and around the neck and shoulders. The EDGE of every Glacial Shell is carefully sanded to a smooth, jag-free surface. Ideal for working narrow areas, the EDGE is also valuable as a dragging tool: place the shell so that the edge and surface are both against the skin, and drag to create additional torsion. This works especially well with a shell in each hand for wringing and pulling strokes. 4

Chill Blen d I N G R E D I E N T S PORCELAIN GLACIAL SHELLS : A blend of high quality porcelain and crushed sea shells. Non-porous material will not absorb oils, dead skin cells, dirt or bacteria making them easy to clean and sanitize. GLACIAL GEL: Natural minerals and absorptive powders including Dried Kelp and Sea Algae. Contents are biodegradable. GLACIAL ACTIVATOR: Purified Water, Preservatives, Odor Neutralizer. GLACIAL ICE PACKS: Super Absorbent Powders. Contents are non-toxic. 5

S A F E T Y I N F O R M A T I O N GLACIAL SHELLS With any cold therapy product, safety must always be your primary concern. It is imperative that you understand all of the guidelines for safe use and follow them whenever using Glacial Shells. HOW THEY WORK Once activated and placed in a freezer for a minimum of 2 hours, a Glacial Shell will stay cool for up to an hour. As the shell is used, it will naturally absorb heat from the client s body and cool the body. If the shell is not cold enough, simply set aside and it will begin decreasing it temperature. The shell can also be placed on ice to maintain cooling effect. THE RULE OF THUMB When the shell is in use, it absorbs heat from the body and cools the surrounding area. Set it aside and/or place on ice and it continues to get cooler. Whenever a shell is set aside, you must always test the temperature of the shell before placing it against a client s skin again. Because your hands will be more accustomed to the cold from holding the shells often, you should check the temperature against another part of your body before use (against your wrist, inner arm, or neck, for example somewhere where the skin is relatively thin). FILLING THE SHELL Use only one pre-measured GlacialActivator pouch per Glacial Shell. Overfilling the Glacial Shell will cause the plug to pop off and/or break the shell. After use, be sure to empty all contents from shell so that no extra liquid remains. Failure to do so may cause the shell to break when it is activated again, as the liquid amount will exceed the shell s volume. 6

GLACIAL ICE PACKS After the Glacial Shell has been placed in the freezer for a minimum of two hours, Glacial Ice Packs can be used to help maintain the cooling effect. Simply soak packs in a sink or shallow pan for 1-3 minutes. They should be hydrated to about 3/4 inch thick. Be careful not to over soak, as the pack could split upon freezing. Freeze ice packs until solid. When kept inside the insulated Glacial Cooler, the ice packs will stay frozen for 24-36 hours. At room temperature, packs will stay frozen for 3-4 hours. After ice packs have thawed, they can be re-hydrated and re-frozen for several uses. COLD MANAGEMENT IMPORTANT: If the shell is too cold to be comfortable for you, it is more than likely TOO cold FOR THE CLIENT. Use extreme caution with clients who are sensitive to cold. Remember, people react to cold differently, and what feels comfortable to you may be too cold for someone else. If a Glacial Shell feels too cool, place a thin sheet over the client s eyes to protect them from initial chill. When using a shell that has been away from the client, ask the client if the temperature is comfortable, or instruct them at the beginning of the treatment to advise you immediately if a shell feels too cold. When you test the shell on a client, first make sure you tell them you are placing a cool shell on their skin. Then gently touch the Glacial Shell on the skin while moving shell. To avoid frostbite, cold therapy should not exceed 20 minutes in a stationary position at one time. Do not use directly on the eyes. WARMING THE SHELL If a shell ever becomes too cold, always be prepared to warm your shells utilizing one of the following techniques: 1. Simply place shell in a very damp and warm towel and wrap it up for 5-10 seconds, to increase its temperature to a comfortable level. Once activated, do not leave a Glacial Shell unattended until it has warmed or the sachet has been removed. Always remove the sachet from the shell immediately after finishing a treatment (warm shell before removing sachet if necessary). 2. Fill a dish with warm water and simply submerge the shell into the water for 5 to 10 seconds. This will increase the temperature to a comfortable level without taking excessive coolness from the shell. If too cold to handle, use a damp towel to pick up the shell and place it in the warming dish. 7

FUN FACT! T I P S A N D F A Q S Glacial Shells are innovative tools that provide more touch time for therapists with an unparalleled ease of use. As with any cold therapy product, there are a few things to be aware of. Cold therapy is an ageold method for treating chronic pain and injuries. Cold therapy treats the affected area by slowing down the blood flow to that area, which in turn, helps to reduce inflammation, muscle spasms, and pain. TIPS FAQ S GlacialGel sachets contain natural ingredients that are non-toxic and are not harmful if touched. Due to the dried kelp and algae, the sachet may emit a natural ocean scent. The Gels are contained in a non-woven material that is very durable. GlacialGel sachets must be removed from the shell and disposed of immediately after use. All ingredients inside the GlacialGel sachet are biodegradable, and the Glacial Charge packets are all recyclable. Overfilling the Glacial Shell will cause the plug to pop off and/or break the shell. After use, be sure to empty all contents from shell so that no extra liquid remains. Be careful of the edges around the shell s opening when inserting and removing the sachets. The edges are sanded and filed; however, sometimes chipping may cause rough or sharp edges. If there are rough edges or chipping occurs around edges of shell, use a soft nail file or emery board to file until smooth. Shells are non-porous so they do not absorb bacteria or oils. They will not absorb massage oil like stones so you can use less. To cool a Glacial Shell faster during a massage, place shell on Glacial Ice Packs in the Glacial Cooler. To warm during massage, wrap in a warm, damp towel for 5 seconds. 8

PREP & CLEANUP PREPARATION STEP ONE: Remove GlacialGel sachet from packaging. Fold corners loosely towards the center and place inside the Glacial Shell. With one finger, flatten the sachet against the bottom of the shell. PRO TIP: Make sure sachet is resting as flat against the shell bottom as possible to allow Activator to absorb and heat to spread evenly. PRO TIP: Place a drop or two of your own essential oil in the shell before replacing cap so the Lava Shell gives off a custom aroma. STEP TWO: Open Glacial Activator package and pour contents into Glacial Shell. Replace cap. STEP THREE: Set Glacial Shell aside and wait 5 minutes for Activator to fully absorb. If there is extra liquid that has not fully absorbed after 5 minutes, remove cap and move sachet around until liquid is gone. Replace cap and freeze for a minimum of 2 hours. CLEANING STEP ONE: Remove cap from Glacial Shell. STEP PRO TIP: Since the LavaGel/ GlacialGel has expanded, removal will be snug. Find corner of sachet and pull out while swirling sachet. PRO TIP: Avoid abrasive/acidic cleansers as they will dull the surface of the shell. TWO: Remove the GlacialGel sachet from the shell. It should remove in one piece. (See Pro Tip for removal.) If it tears, simply remove the rest and shake out any loose material or rinse inside with water. Dispose of sachet in waste receptacle. Contents are non-toxic. STEP THREE: Wash the outside of the shell and cap with anti-bacterial soap and water and rinse the interior under a faucet. Dry shell and place on display. 9
