Events for Children No traditional preschool story times, nor traditional Books & Babies. We will resume with our normal weekly programs in September. Kids can continue to play the Lewis & Clark Library s Summer Reading Book Bingo! Win prizes! For all ages! Bingo sheets at the Info Desk. Play more than once to enter a drawing for a cool book bag filled with some neat stuff. To enter, kids just need to write their full name and phone number on the bingo sheet they hand in at the info desk. Final day to hand in bingo sheets is August 31. The drawing will take place in September. Babies & Tots Summer Reading Rubber Ducky Club For caregivers & their Children birth- 3. Complete 6 early literacy activities during the month of August and score a rubber ducky! Activity Sheets @ the Info Desk. Turn in your completed rubber ducky club sheet for the month of August after September 1 to claim your prize. Open Play for babies, tots & their caregivers during the month of August on Mondays, 10:30 AM in the Large Meeting Room. Weather permitting, we will head outside! Library Board of Trustees Public libraries are required by Montana law to be governed by a board of trustees; specifically, this requirement and boards responsibilities are spelled out in the Montana Code Annotated, 22-1-308. Board meetings, held once a month, are open meetings subject to the provisions of Montana law (though they may be closed for the discussion of personnel matters.) If you have questions about Lewis and Clark Library Board meetings or wish to be placed on the agenda, please contact the Library Director, John Finn at 447-6699 or jfinn @lclibrary. org Adulting is Hard: Solar Eclipse August 16 from 6:30-8 pm in the Large Meeting Room Get ready for August s Solar Eclipse with one more event in the Adulting is Hard series. Join us on Wednesday, August 16 at 6:30 pm in the Large Meeting Room to learn about ways to safely view this magnificent event. This event will be hands-on, and is great for teens and adults. Helena Ukulele Jam Session Monday, August 28, 6-8 PM in the Large Meeting Room. Join the Helena Ukulele Club in the Large Meeting Room at Lewis & Clark Library from 6:00-8:00 PM the last Monday of each month, unless otherwise published. Come meet and play music with fellow ukulele players in Helena, Montana! Music is available for pick up all month long at the Information Desk of the Main Library before each program. Everyone 12 years and older is welcome to participate and everyone is welcome to share music or lead a session. Ukuleles are not provided so please bring your own. We are currently working on a group songbook while also learning new songs along the way. Game Night Tuesday, August 28 from 6-8 PM in the Large Meeting Room (Fourth Tuesday of the Month). Drop in for board games and fun! Free and open to all ages. Teen Volunteers August 1 from 1-3 PM in the Large Meeting Room Are you a middle or high school student interested in earning volunteer hours at your Lewis & Clark Library? Attend one of our volunteer events! You'll help with meaningful work to make your library (and community) a better place. Your attendance at a volunteer event may lead to more opportunities to earn volunteer hours. Please note: this is not an opportunity to earn community service hours. Audience: This program is for any middle or high school student to earn VOLUNTEER hours. No sign up necessary; they can show up to the program on any (or all) of the dates. Summer of Scholarships (with Reach Higher Montana) Scholarship club for juniors and seniors. Will provide time for instruction and time to create applications. Registration REQUIRED for the July sessions. Contact Reach Higher Montana for more information and to register: 422-1275. Middle School Extravaganza Wednesday, August 2 from 6-8:30 PM Students entering grades 6-8 are welcome to come play games, eat food, and meet other middle schoolers. We ll also share information about library programs for middle schoolers in the fall. Computer Classes ABCs (Absolute Beginners Computing) Tuesday-Friday, August 22-25 from 12-1:30 PM each day. In the Computer Lab Seating is limited; please call 447-1690 to register. In this fun, hands-on course you will learn all the basic computer skills including using the mouse and keyboard, working in Microsoft Windows, using Microsoft Word, using the Internet and more. This course will give you a chance to play with the Android-based device including gestures, organizing apps and Home screens, finding and installing useful apps, and using Maps and the Camera functions.
