Summer School main theme is Regional Growth Models: Advances in Theory, Methodology and Empirical Analysis. The event is funded by the European Union (Marie Curie Program). Executive coordinator for the 46 th Congress of the European Regional Science Association. The 46th Congress of the European Regional Science Association (ERSA) was held at the University of Thessaly in Volos, hosted by the Greek section of the ERSA in association with the Department of Planning and Regional Development of the University of Thessaly. The conference started at the 30th of August with the Rector s welcome reception and ended on the 3rd of September with two post congress excursions. With 680 participants from 45 countries and 652 papers included in the final program, the ERSA 2006 conference turned out to a great event both for the University of Thessaly and for the city of Volos. The conference was the largest in the history of ERSA. 17

Scientific coordinator of the Graduate Studies seminar. The Department of Planning and Regional Development has established a Graduate Programme in Planning and Regional Development, which is already in its seventh year of its operation. In the course of this programme in the spring semester a weekly seminar is taking place. The purpose of the seminar is to enrich the scientific programme with a limited number of external lectures from invited scientists that are currently doing research on the very broad research area of spatial sciences.
