erelay for the meeting of Friday, July 10, 2015 Vienna Wireless Calendar July 10 Regular Meeting Pete Hadley July 18 NAQP-RTTY Pete Hadley July 24 Regular Meeting Pete Hadley Unless otherwise noted: All meetings are at the Oakton High School, Oakton, Virginia. Our CW Forum and T n T Forum begin at 7:00 PM in Room 108. The regular meeting begins at 7:30 PM in the Lecture Hall. CW Forum John Bailey, KC4BQI, will discuss how to protect you personal home computer from various attacks. John has his Comp TIA Security Plus Certification and will share with us some simple actions we can take to protect our computers. The forum will be held in Room 108 at 7:00 PM Main Meeting Lecture Teresa Schaefer, KM4DLT, FD Trail Boss, will be giving her assessment and critique of Field Day 2015. Continuing the spirit of improving next years Field Day, we will have a break-out of various interests to discuss what we liked, what needs improvement and other suggestions. The break-out interests will be Band Captains; FD Trail Boss; GOTA, Set-up, take-down, and transport; Antenna design and location; Mess section. Please think of which venue you will join and what you can contribute to one of the topics. We won t be spending a lot of time discussing and solving problems. The idea is get recorded your experiences and observations; then, at a later date, we will work on developing solutions. Page 1 of 6

Finally, we will conclude with a video of VWS Balloon Flight No 7 from December 6, 2008. Maybe this presentation will stimulate interest in the club for another flight. Shirts and Jackets If you have ordered a shirt or jacket, please see Ray Anderson, KJ4CNN, to pick up. Then see Terry Lowe, KA8EFA, Treasurer. NAQP-RTTY The NAQP-RTTY contest will be held at the home of Pete Hadley, K6BFA, on July 18-19, 2015. The contest will officially start at 2:00 PM local time. There will be a briefing immediately before the contest start and throughout the operating period. The operating period is from 2:00 PM Saturday until 2:00 AM Sunday. If that isn t exciting enough to get you out on a Saturday afternoon, Scott Johnston, KD4EBL, will be bringing his famous German potato salad to compliment what Steven Karty, K5SK, is bringing. Want Ads Club Inventory Chairman: The club has the need for someone to serve as Property Inventory Chairman. The responsibility would be keeping a location record of club owned property and coordinating its maintenance. Elmer Wanted: John Bailey, KC4BQI, has requested an Elmer to assist him in circuit design. The following is from his request: I really got the QRP building bug. I am looking for an elmer who can verbalize some of the electronic design concepts. If I were to build a VFO. how would I know if it had the required 10dbm output power? If I wanted to scale a lc filter to a different frequency, how would I do that? Given a transistor, how would I design a low power rf amp out of it? Please contact John directly at john_bailey17 <at> hotmail.com Program Coordinator: There is a vacancy in the club leadership ranks for Program Coordinator. The assignment consists of keeping a handle on the bi-monthly programs. It is a very important assignment. Page 2 of 6

Program Presenter: The club still has some openings for presenters to share with the group his or her experiences and knowledge. This can be a presentation for the CW Forum, the T n T Forum, or a short or long program for the entire club. You don t have to prepare a long presentation if your topic lends itself to a shorter period. Four presenters with a 15-minute subject equals two presenters with a 30 minute topic equals one presenter with a one-hour topic. We can custom fit your presentation to our meetings. Contact Pete, K6BFA, with your subject and time requirements. Contributions If you have something to contribute to the erelay or think something should be included, please contact Pete Hadley, K6BFA. This newsletter is for your edification and information about club activities. Page 3 of 6
