PROGRAM INTERNATIONAL SOFTWOOD CONFERENCE 2017
Cocktail Reception 4th October, 7 pm
Welcome to the ISC 2017 On behalf of the German Timber Trade Federation (GD Holz), Berlin, the European Timber Trade Federation (ETTF) and European Organisation of the Sawmill Industry (EOS), we warmly welcome you to the wonderful city of Hamburg for the 2017 International Softwood Conference (ISC). The last ISC in Germany took place in Berlin in 2014 this year we chose Hamburg as the venue for our conference. As a cosmopolitan port city with economic power, Hamburg has a long tradition as a major centre of international trade. In Germany, the Hanseatic City of Hamburg is the Gate to the World and with 1.8 billion inhabitants the second largest city after Berlin. We are very pleased to welcome the guests to the 2017 ISC in the heart of foreign trade. This year's conference will take place mainly under good economic conditions. In Germany there has been an unbroken economic recovery for 7 years. This applies in particular to the construction sector, since there is a backlog especially in residential construction in Germany. But also in other countries of the internal market and the world, the economic signs are again on the upswing a very good prerequisite for a successful and optimistic meeting of the ISC 2017. As always, outstanding representatives of supplier and demand side meet at the ISC and represent an unprecedented and international network for the global softwood markets. This is reflected in the equally demanding and exclusive conference program. We warmly invite you to Hamburg enjoy the flair of a cosmopolitan city and discuss with experts from all over the world about the international softwood markets and their development. In addition to the conference, we have chosen a special venue for the gala dinner by boat we will first make a small harbour tour and afterwards our gala evening will take place in the 2016 opened Elbphilharmonie. The Elbphilharmonie is the new landmark of Hamburg and will develop an immense radiance for the Hanseatic City. We are looking forward to welcoming you to the ISC in Hamburg in October!

The Plaza is a stunning walkaround balcony of the entire building. About the Elbphilharmonie The Elbphilharmonie was planned with the aim of creating a new landmark of the city and a cultural monument for everybody. The 110-meter high building on the right bank of the Norderelbe is located near the mouth of the Alster in the west of Hamburg's Hafencity district. The Elbphilharmonie was founded in a historically significant place: in the Sandtorhafen. In 1875 the largest warehouse in the port of Hamburg was built, the Kaiserspeicher. Cocoa, tobacco and tea were stored here until the 90s. On the base of the former Kaiserspeicher on the western tip of the Hafencity rises the glassy new building. It has two concert halls, a hotel and several apartments. On the intersection between storage and new construction is a publicly accessible viewing platform at a height of 37 meters the Plaza, which offers a unique panoramic view of the city and the harbour. The solemn inauguration of the Great Hall and the entire building took place on January 11, 2017 with the concert The Space is the Time of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra with more than 2000 visitors. (Dress Code: dark suit / black tie, if preferred)
ISC partner s program Living Loving Hamburg! What is so special about Hamburg? Wind and water are the two determining elements of this harbour town: Enjoy a sunny day on the bank of the Außenalster with a view on swans, sailing boats and magnificent buildings. On the other hand the honourable Blankenese with its countless villas and romantic views from the hillside towards the river Elbe.
