Resort Information A pretty, family friendly resort in the popular Portes du Soleil ski area, Les Gets is an exceedingly convenient, weekendable destination. Located only an hour and fifteen minutes from Geneva, Les Gets has access to some excellent skiing and it has a charming chalet feel to it. Getting there The closest resorts to Geneva are Morzine and Les Gets which are just one hour by car. Avoriaz and Châtel are one hour and 30 minutes from Geneva. There are plenty of flights from within Europe by airlines such as www.easyjet.com and plenty of long-haul flights too. With enough nightlife to be fun, activities for all the family including ice skating on the rink in the centre of the resort, and a variety of good restaurants, Les Gets is the perfect midpoint between peaceful Savoyarde Chatel and the lively party town of Morzine. The easiest of the Portes du Soleil resorts to get to; this is a fantastic option for families with small children who are thinking of making a long term investment. This resort is far more than just a gateway to the larger Portes du Soleil villages of Morzine and Avoriaz. The first chairlift was built in 1938, while the Mont Chery side of the mountain was opened in 1954. Predating the arrival of purpose built ski resorts by some time; Les Gets has plenty of character.
Winter The Portes du Soleil ski area is most famous for being home to the perilous Swiss Wall, but there is much more there than that. The skiing is primarily intermediate, with plenty of green, blue and red runs to offset the challenging blacks in the area. New skiers are well provided for, with great ski schools and good nursery slopes. While the full Portes du Soleil ski area might offer 650km of ski slopes, the Les Gets/Morzine area enjoys a very respectable 120km of slopes between them. Les Get s local ski area has two sides; the main area, which shares its pistes with neighbouring Morzine, and the Mont Chery side. Expert s Opinion Our ski expert Fenella Hunter says: Les Gets is the perfect balance between the lively Morzine and the quieter and more traditional Chatel. It s great for families, but it has more than enough restaurants and bars too. The skiing is largely intermediate and advanced level, but learners will find some very rewarding and scenic green runs. The Mont Chery gondola leads up to the wide slopes on the other side of the village. The wide blue runs and fast reds make it good fun for skiers of all ability levels, while there are a couple of excellent restaurants on that mountain. As a Famille Plus Montagne resort, Les Gets has excellent facilities for kids, from creative workshops to ice skating, snow shoeing and sledding.
Summer Since Les Gets is close to Geneva and it s one of a number of lower altitude resorts in the Portes du Soleil, it is a fantastic summer destination. The Famille Plus Montagne designation means that it has plenty of activities for all the family, while the wooded trails are excellent for mountain bikers. There are a number of cultural activities and a music museum that offers a guided tour for anyone interested. Whether you get a massage and relax at the spa, or head over to enjoy the history of the area, Les Gets has something for everyone in Summer. Popular Alpine sports like climbing, hiking and mountain biking are all well-equipped in this area, with activities like Caving, Adventure Trail and Via Ferrata also proving popular amongst families. Elsewhere in the Portes du Soleil, you can enjoy a lakeside beach and bathing area. The river nearby offers rafting, hydrospeeding and canyoning for the daring, while there is a water park and swimming pool to keep the kids happy.
