Topics: 1. Aquifer characterisation and monitoring 2. Aquifer management and legal framework 3. Water resources engineering 4. Groundwater sustainable use, protection and remediation 5. Awareness, education and outreach All topics deal with a karst environment. International aspect of karst aquifers is a key theme of DIKTAS and the conference but certainly not the only to be addressed in the papers. Selected papers of the conference will be published in IAH special series Selected papers and in Springer s journal Environmental Earth Science. Venue & Date: The international conference Karst Without Boundaries that will take place from 11 to 15 of June 2014 in the heart of the Dinaric Karst. The main conference event will be in Trebinje (Bosnia & Herzegovina) with a mid-conference field seminar taking place in Dubrovnik (Croatia) a post-conference excursion in famous Boka Kotorska Bay (Montenegro). The conference will be preceded by a summer school course and a field seminar "Characterization and Engineering of Karst Aquifers". The conference is organised in the framework of a DIKTAS project (http://diktas.iwlearn.org). DIKTAS (Protection and Sustainable Use of the Dinaric Karst Transboundary Aquifer System) project is initiated by the aquifer-sharing states and supported by Global Environment Facility (GEF) to improve understanding of transboundary groundwater resources of the Dinaric Karst region and to facilitate their equitable and sustainable utilisation, including the protection of unique karst groundwater dependent ecosystems. DIKTAS is a full-size GEF regional project, implemented by UNDP and executed by UNESCO. The conference is sponsored by DIKTAS partners, with special support of UNESCO, the IAH Karst Commission and the IGRAC centre. The regional co-organisers are the Hydropower System Trebišnjica (HET), Trebinje, B&H and the University of Belgrade, Serbia.
