Kikuyu Yellows - Screening kikuyu lines for resistance. Over 1,000 plants from several kikuyu collection breeding lines are being screened for resistance to Kikuyu Yellows, a devastating disease of kikuyu for which there is no current cure. Black Fungus 1 - Patch disease of Couch. This is a devastating disease which has been causing problems at three Eastern Suburbs Courses: Royal Sydney, Bonnie Doon & NSW Course. It has also been identified at Pymble and two courses in Queensland. Potentially it could wipe out the Couch industry as nothing regrows in the patches. Currently there are problems identifying it and there are no current controls. Shane Biddle is the Senior Supervisor Grounds for the University of Queensland s St Lucia campus. Shane has been at The University of Queensland for 16 years the last 8 as Senior Supervisor Grounds. UQ (St Lucia) is a 114 hectare site and is home to 35,000 students. His role is quite diverse and includes turf management, parks and gardens, landscape, wetland and bushland regeneration contract and tree management. Shane is a committee member of the STA Queensland and has been part of the development of the association which has been well received in QLD. He is also employed at Stadiums Queensland where he assists with game day preparation at Suncorp Stadium and Skilled Park. Shane s campus was severely damaged by the recent Brisbane floods and his presentation will provide a comprehensive overview of how the floods impacted his facility and the renovation undertaken to recover the site.

Peter McMaugh will review the the HAL funded project he is undertaking on the problems of mites in warm season turf grasses Australia wide: 1. To identify the mites causing problems and work up diagnostic tools for practitioners to help them identify their problems. 2. To screen chemicals for successful control of mites and get data enabling applications for permits to APVMA. 3. Look at any synergism between chemicals to improve setting up recommended schedules for treatment to avoid resistance build-up. Turf Herbicide A new and unique sulphonylurea turf herbicide will soon be launched by Bayer Environmental Science in Australia, called Tribute. Paul Contradt, National Sales Manager at Bayer Environmental Science, says Turf managers work incredibly hard to maintain the highest quality turf and Bayer s new turf herbicide will pay Tribute to them. Tribute contains the active ingredient foramsulfuron. The product selectively removes unwanted cool-season grasses from warm-season grasses. Tribute effectively controls grasses such as Couchgrass; Ryegrass; Wintergrass and other annual perennial grasses. Turf Equipment Stan Wells from Globe Equipment Solutions will outline the range of machinery they supply to the professional turf industry. Stan is a well known identity in the industry, he has over 30 years experience in machinery business. The new G.E.S. equipment catalogue will also be handed out at this event. The range of products include Dakota, 1st Products, Imants, Lastec, Agrimetal, Wiedenmann, Amazone, TurfMach, TruTurf, Turf Engineering to name a few. Water Efficient Technology This workshop will be presented by Patrick O Shannessy of Toro and he will identify areas for short term efficiencies and long term sustainability by examining management, products and finance options.
