Dredging has begun to improve the lake area, by reshaping and stabilizing the shoreline, and creating additional access for fishing. Work is expected to be near completion by the August show. Members then helped with clean up around the park. These are open meetings, meaning any member is welcome to attend. Ideas are always welcome. Contact the President or Secretary for the location. Membership dues are $20 per year Any member renewing their membership prior to the annual show, send your payment directly to the treasurer Ken Stein. If you are renewing your membership at the annual show in August, go to the show office to pay dues. Ken will then notify both the secretary & newsletter editor so they may keep their records up to date. Membership forms will be updated to reflect this change. If dues are not paid by October 1st, member will no longer be considered a member as per the by-laws. New members joining after January will have their membership fees extended to the 2nd show (i.e.: pay on/or after January 2018, membership expires August 2019). This does not apply to members who let their membership lapse and then renew after January. Any member 65+ years of age may pay $150 one-time for a lifetime paid membership. 60+ $200 for lifetime membership (Non-refundable). Monthly Meetings March through August the monthly meetings will be held on the first Sunday of the month at various locations. Watch the newsletter for the locations. June Monthly Minutes June 3, 2018 PVAMA Club meeting at Crystal Lake 19 members present John Howsden called the meeting to order at 2pm Old Business: Discussion about Friday August 17 th having someone available while the tractor drive is going on, for early registrations. Sue Uhrich, Deby Bieck, Linda Carllson, John Howsden and Eileen Dawes said they could be available to help with early sign up. Brad suggested to take up counter top boards and replace by where food is served by kitchen outside window. Larry Holmberg said he has boards to use as the replacements. We will not be able to use the Clay Center shuttle this year. The lowboy will be available but has no roof so something will need to be done for a roof. The All Nebraska Tractor Drive June 15 th and 16 th starting at Imperial Mall and stopping at Stolley Park for lunch returning to Imperial Mall for supper and to present check to Veterans for the activities fund. Saturday leave Imperial Mall travel to Glenvil, Walt Miller will talk about the naval depot. Travel to Hastings to drive around Good Samaritan village and College view. All Nebraska Tractor Drive for 2019 plans are travel to Minden, Pioneer Village, and Fort Kearney. Discussion about the amount that PVAMA to donate to the Veterans activities fund this year is in the amount of $2,000. John Howsden reminded everyone the reason that the tractor drive was started in the beginning was to raise funds for PVAMA which at the June Meeting Minutes time needed money and in hopes to raise enough money to buy property for PVAMA. New Business: John Howsden donated banner flags for the gates. Amount of flags donated $45. Discussion of putting feature tractors first in line for the parade. A chalk line for designated feature tractors first can be used. The tennis court needs attention. The weeds have taken over. Cleaning up this area with weed killer is a concern so it does not kill the grass around. The ongoing work at the lake is expected to be completed by the August show. Show flyers and brochures available to take and put up at businesses or areas that will promote PVAMA show. John Howsden talked about having NTV here for TV coverage of the show. Raffle items need turned in. Brad Harpham mentioned that a place is needed to work on the wheat binder in the winter months. Any suggestions as to where. Rich Wilton (not in attendance) has let us know that the wheat should be ready by July 4 th. Help will be needed. Call Rich for more information. Next club meeting July 1 at Crystal Lake. Potluck lunch at 1 pm followed by meeting and clean up the park. Dave Babcock motioned to adjourn the meeting. Second by Bard Harpham. Motion carried. Prayer, Praise, and the Lighter Side Please keep members AJ and LaJeanne Bohler s daughter in your prayers. She has been diagnosed with cancer and they are still doing tests. They have been going back and forth with her to the docotors. Please pray for wisdom for the doctors and safety on the road. Leon Meyers, formerly of Hastings, passed away recently in Arizona. He is the brother to Bonnie and Larry Holmberg and of Jim and Diana Meyers; uncle to Stacy and Cal Rasser and Andy and Brandi Eiseman (all PVAMA members). He is survived by his wife Marilyn and other family members. Celebration of Life service was held Saturday June 16 in Hastings. Former Hastings resident Leon D. Meyer, 87, of Green Valley, AZ, passed away on May 27, 2018, in his home. A celebration of life was held at Desert Hills Lutheran Church in Green Valley, AZ on June 9. Memorial Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 16, at Faith Lutheran Church in Hastings with Pastor Paul Dunbar officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings Veterans Organizations will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Faith Lutheran Church, Hastings Food Bank, or given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. He was born February 8, 1931, to Herman and Florence (Koch) Meyer in Campbell, NE. Leon was one of 13 children. 4 PVAMA NEWS After graduating from Campbell High School in 1948, he joined the U.S. Army and was a hospital corpsman in Japan during the Korean conflict. In 1952, Leon began a 40-year career as a railroad switchman, brakeman, and conductor. He spent eight years with the Union Pacific and 32 years with the Burlington/Santa Fe. In 1956 Leon married Marilyn Kuhlman of Campbell and on April 29th they celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. They had two children, Jeffrey and Susan. They moved to Hastings, NE in 1960. In 2010, they became full-time residents of Green Valley, AZ. Music was always a part of Leon's life. He sang in the church choir, a men's barbershop group, the "Chorus of the Plains" and in the Green Valley Men's Chorus. One of Leon's pastimes was working on, repairing and building bicycles for his family as well as the neighborhood children. Leon belonged to the Elks, the VFW, the Optimists and the American Legion. He was also an active member of Faith Lutheran Church. Leon is preceded in death by siblings, Doyt Meyer and Marvin Meyer; brothersin-law, Roger Larson, Alan Anderson, Charles Eiseman, and Ray Grams; and sister-in-law, Maude Meyer. The Lighter Side This year marks our 35th year of PVAMA. It has takes a lot of hard work to get ready for the August show. One part of it is advertising for the show.. At the June board meeting it was all hands on deck getting the show flyers ready for the mail. Ken and Donna did a lot of prep work to get the materials to the board meeting. Board members and club members both got their hands in on the fun. Oh did I say fun? Lots of laughs and tractor talk. Rod and Deby seemed to have the hardest job. The holders of the tape. Fold, stuff, tape and stamp, label and repeat. Many hands make light work. Thanks to all for helping. PVAMA NEWS 7
ALL NEBRASKA TRACTOR DRIVE All Nebraska Tractor Drive June 15-16, 2018 8 am Friday All Nebraska Tractor Drive started at the Imperial Mall in Hastings and traveled to Doniphan for a break before continuing on to Grand Island to Stolley Park for lunch. Residents from The Kensington in Hastings caught up with the Tractor Drive. The return trip to Hastings served to be a rather hot and windy one. All made it back to Hastings in time to meet our Veterans for a steak and potatoes supper. Following supper was a check presentation from PVAMA -All Nebraska Tractor Drive in the amount of $2000. Presented to our Veterans for their activities fund. 8 am Saturday started day 2 of the drive to Glenvil a stop for lunch and a visit from Walt Miller about the Naval Ammunition Depot. A tractor drive through Hastings around Good Samaritian Villiage and College View Assisted Living so the residents could enjoy the tractors. A big thank you to all our sponsors and the many hands that worked behind the scenes. All Nebraska Tractor Drive for 2019 plans are travel to Minden, Pioneer Village, and Fort Kearney.
