NORTHERN ADRIATIC ROVINJ permanent port of entry PULA permanent port of entry 45 05 N 13 38 E CHARTS: B.A. 201, B.A. 147 MOORINGS Northern Harbour: In the northern harbour larger yachts (depth up to 5 m) can berth along the stonework sea front. Shaltered from NE & Sirocco, exposed to W & SW winds. ACI Marina Rovinj: is located at a distance of 1 km (by road) from the town centre. Sheltered from winds blowing from the 3rd and 4th quadrants by Katarina Islet and by the 300 m long L shaped breakwater. ABOUT Rovinj is a typical example of a town of the Mediterranean type. It was fortified by walls in two rows as early as the Middle Ages, with three town gates (restored and reinforced by Venice in the 15th c.), later pulled down or integrated into new structures. From the 17th century the town started to develop outside the town walls and in 1763 the islet was connected with the mainland. The town is dominated by the Baroque three-nave church of St. Euphemia (Fuma), erected in 1736 on the location of earlier sacral buildings. The Rovinj Town Museum keeps a valuable collection of paintings from the period between the 16th and the 18th centuries, as well as a contemporary art collection. - Every summer, the artists who live and work in Rovinj organize the traditional, picturesque one-day exhibition in the open, in Grisia. Events: Rovinj Grand Prix - international cycling race (in February), Istrian Riviera - ATP tennis tournaments (in April), Regata Rovinj - Pesaro - Rovinj (in May), Modri Biser (Blue Pearl) - international youth pop music festival (in July), Grisia - art exhibition in the open (in August) - many Croatian and European artists exhibit their works in the most famous street in the town, Rovinj Fiesta (in August), Sv. Euphemia (16th of September), day of the patron of Rovinj with an exceptional gastronomic and entertainment offer and fireworks. 44 52 N 13 50 E CHARTS: B.A. 201, B.A. 1471 MOORINGS Pula Comercial Port moorings are alongside the Kolodvorska Obala (lenght 100m, depth 3,5m); Rijeka jetty (lenght 150m,depth 3,5m); on the N side of the jetty is a border crossing, south of jetty (lenght 130m,depth 4m) is for yachts. ACI MARINA PULA lies in the SE part of the port.there is 200 sea berths and 80 boat places on land.marina can accomodate boats from 7 to 40 m lenght and it is open all year long. ABOUT Pula LEGEND The legend of the Argonauts describes the pursuit of the Colchidians after the ship Argo and the Golden Fleece. The subjects of the king of Colchis gave up further pursuit after the death of their king s son. Fearing that they would be punished for his death and the failure of the quest if they returned to Colchis, they decided to settle where the prince had died. Pula therefore became not only a harbor of refuge to the Colchidian fugitives, but also their place of exile. The most famous geographer of the antiquity - Strabo - claims that this is how Pula was founded and according to this legend, it was about three thousand years ago. After two years preparation, in the afternoon of Saturday 18th October the knot of the largest cravat in the world was tied around the Pula. This world scale mega-tie is of incredible dimensions: it is 808 m long, and at its widest it measures 25 m. The knot of the cravat is 15 m long, at its widest it is 16.5 m wide and at its most narrow point it is 5.4 m wide. The height of the cravat from the narrowest to the widest part is 3.5 m. The execution of the art installation began on Tuesday morning, when members of the Split mountaineering society Spirit, by climbing up around the Arena, began setting up a net around the Arena, so that they could then fix the cravat to it. Marina has 150 berths ABOUT Mali Lošinj First mentioned in 1398. Because of permanent threat from pirates, a tower was erected in the 15th century to provide a shelter. Sudden development of seafaring and shipbuilding in the 18th and 19th centuries, when the village turned into a town, was accompanied by the evolution of the type of houses called captain s house. The houses, in the middle of the gardens planted with the Mediterranean vegetation, are marked predominantly by stylistic features of the late Baroque and classicsm. The furniture is exquisite, includes many works of art, particularly portraits. Major events: international tennis tournaments - Losinj Riviera (in June and July); Losinj Regatta (beginning of August); International Spear-Fishing Competition (in December); Assumption (15th of August); Fishermen s Nights (July to August); Brass Orchestra and the Majorettes - held every week (from 1st of July to 31st of August). CENTRAL ADRIATIC ZADAR & Kornati archipelago ŠIBENIK & SKRADIN (Krka Falls) 44 08.0 N 15 12.3 E CHARTS: B.A. 515 MOORINGS: PORT OF ZADAR, MARINA TANKERCOMMERC (300 sea berths) For many sailors, Zadar is the undisputed king of all the cities on Croatia s Adriatic coastline. Everything you need can be found here, and there is an excellent market, good restaurants and lots of culture. The central part of croatian Adriatic Sea, about 15 Nm to the west from Sibenik town, 7 Nm to the southwest from Murter, or 15 Nm to the south from Zadar town, there is amazing group of islands named Kornati archipelago. Beauty and singularity of the archipelago moved authorities in 1980 to proclaim a bigger part of that area national park. Since then certain modifications of its borders were made, so that nowadays Kornati National Park occupies an area of about 220 km2 (54.000 acres). There are 89 islands, islets and reefs within the area of Kornati National Park (185 km of the coastline), which makes it the most indented group of islands in the Mediterranean The Kornati, a labyrinth of sea passages and islands, were formed from a cluster of white rocks that God was left with when He had created the world. He just dropped them into the sea, looked back and decided that no corrections were needed. (Folk legend). The Kornati islands are the most unusual group of islands in the Mediterranean. There are no trees, but grass, flowers and many endemic plant species abound. Every island is particular on some way, like litlle island Mana, which a top the vertical cliff that plunges into the open sea stand some conspicuous ruins that resemble a crumbling old town. Don t be taken in! These are the relics of a scene in a Hollywood pirate spectacular that was shot here some twenty years ago. Island Lavsa cove is the most famous shelter in the archipelago. The remains of salt-pans are evidence that the Romans knew about it too. 43 00 N 15 53.3 E CHARTS: B.A. 2711 MOORINGS: PORT OF ŠIBENIK, ACI MARINA SKRADIN ŠIBENIK In the heart of the Adriatic coast, at the mouth of the river Krka, hidden among the channels, there lies the Old Croatian fortress of St. Mihovil. During the 11th century, houses of the town emerged from the bottom of the fortress. As much as, or even more then any other Croatian town, the people of Sibenik owe their heritage to the West European Christian civilization. Building their cathedral of St. Jakov for a century, they did not know that it would become an eternal and indestructible symbol of the town as was shown by the recent war history. Sibenik has remained the same as it was maintaining all of its historical values; the mouth of river Krka with plenty of waterfalls in the National Park which is only 10 km far from the town, a hidden port toward the open sea with an ecologically preserved group of more than a hundred islands Kornati another National Park, and historical source and inspiration to the most prominent croatian writers, sculptors, architects and musicians. SKRADIN / KRKA FALLS Inside the long inlet of the Krka River, close to the well-known waterfalls, surrounded by woods, lies the town of Skradin. Rich in ancient edifices and cultural monuments it offers the visitor an insight into the rich history of the oldest Croatian settlement with the status of a town (360 B.C) Skradin hosts the Festival of Dalmatian harmonysinging groups while special festivities are held on the Feast of the Birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary (September 8) and St. Jerome (September 30), the patron saint of Skradin. Krka National Park offers 4.5 km of beautiful promenades, beaches (Skradinski buk) and rest areas, whereas in the upper course of the Krka River one can visit Visovac Islet, the Franciscan monastery or the waterfall Roški slap.remains of Roman buildings, tombs and inscriptions: the capital of Illyrian Liburnia, later a Roman municipium. Remnants of Turkish and Venetian fortifications at Biskupija (above the town). www.adriaticservices.hr

SPLIT & TROGIR 43 30 1 N 16 26.5 E CHARTS: B.A. 2712 Zadar MOORINGS: CITY PORT, ACI MARINA SPLIT, PORT OF TROGIR About Split: (Historic nucleus with Diocletian s Palace entered on UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979)With an average of 7 hours of sunshine per day throughout the year (12 hours in July), the city of Split is one of the sunniest cities in Europe. By its lush Mediterranean and sub tropic vegetation (palms, agaves, cactuses) it has since time immemorial attracted people from all over the world. Around A.D. 300 Emperor Diocletian built his palace in Split that, after his death became the shelter to many exiled Roman emperors and their families. Throughout its history Split was attacked and conquered by many who left their traces in the culture and architecture of the city The city with a 1700 year-old tradition is also known for the entertainment it offers, particularly in the summer when its squares, streets and other outdoor areas are the sites of various events that make this city a large open-air stage. Kornati Skradin Šibenik Trogir: This is a town of extraordinary architectural beauty. The old part of town, built on the remains of the 3rd century BC Greek settlement of Tragurion, is centered around the cathedral, which features an elaborate doorway built by Radovan, the designer (airport) Trogir Split ADRIATIC SERVICES Ltd. SOUTHERN ADRIATIC ISLAND HVAR DUBROVNIK 43 10.2 N 16 26.8 E - CHARTS: B.A. 2712 MOORINGS: HVAR HARBOUR The location has the same touch St. Tropez had as Brigitte Bardot and her friends occupied the fishing village in the 50s. The same kind of simple fisher ambience and genuine harbour-village character. Not spoiled yet from too many tourists - but already *IN*, especially by the VIP caravan who just left St. Tropez and Sylt (Sylt was Europe s coolest summer destination, this year.) Shopping in Hvar must be very original and fun (bizarre, likely). The sea very blue and clear. The beaches not to crowdy and sandy, The landscape unusual - something new to explore. In its Old Town, the main street is lined with cafes, shops and sidewalks that invite strolling, browsing and espresso sipping. Be sure and visit the Rector s Palace, built in 1441 and today a museum filled with historic exhibits. If you re visiting midyear, the Dubrovnik Summer Festival offers music, theater and dance performances. Dubrovnik is one of the most beautiful cities on the Croatian coast. In the Middle Ages the Republic of Dubrovik was an important rival of Venice. Many buildings in the old city center testify of this glorious past and to its venetian influence. The walls of Dubrovnik girdle a perfectly preserved complex of public and private, sacral and secular buildings representing all periods of the city s history, beginning with its founding in the 7th century. Particular mention should be made of the city s main street, Stradun, the Prince s Palace, the church of St Vlaho, the Cathedral, three large monasteries, the Custom s Office and the City Hall. The Republic of Dubrovnik was the centre of a separate political and territorial entity, and was proud of its culture, its achievements in commerce and especially of its freedom, preserved down so many tempestuous centuries. Today, Dubrovnik is also a very lively city, with many things to do, both at day and night times. The coast nearby offers all sorts of activities and the town has many restaurants, bars and nightclubs. It has definitely been discovered by tourists, so be ready for the crowds, but you have to be a deeply jaded traveller not to appreciate it despite the crowds. www.adriaticservices.hr

KORČULA Hvar 42 58.8 N 17 08.4 E - HARBOUR CHARTS: B.A. 1574 MOORINGS: MARINA KORČULA, ACI KORČULA Korčula Korcula Island undoubtedly holds a privileged position among Croatian islands. Here are perhaps even more legends, tales and monuments than anywhere else. The island has a number of famous towns including Korcula, Lumbarda and Vela Luka. The oldest written monument in Croatia, the Lumbardska psefizma, in Greek, was found in Lumbarda. According to legend, Korcula was established by the Trojan hero Anthenor in the 12th century BC. Korcula is, after Lokrum and Mljet, the third most densely wooded island of Croatia. There is much evidence of a highlydeveloped social life on Korcula even in the 13th century. The Statute of Korcula, signed in 1214, prohibited the slave trade for the first time in Europe. It also spoke about the order and management of the city. The famous travel writer, Marco Polo, was, according to some sources, born in Korcula. MONTENEGRO Dubrovnik Tiny Montenegro s Mediterranean coastline plays at the feet of Balkan mountains. Its walled towns and mixture of Orthodox and Catholic churches and its cultural blend of Montenegrin, Serb, Bosniak, Albanian and Croatian have survived the vicissitudes of history and are breezing in to the future. At the head of southern Europe s deepest fjord, Kotor s setting couldn t be more dramatic. Fortified Stari Grad (Old Town) nestles at the foot of a high cliff and its labyrinthine streets surprise you with bars, churches and restaurants on hidden piazzas. Brooding mountains protect the whole bay and the sea is a moody indigo blue. HERITAGE: The St Tryphon Cathedral, originally built in the 11th century, has since been reconstructed several times, due to damage by a number of severe earthquakes. The entire western front was destroyed in 1667 and the replacement stone bell towers add a baroque aspect to the building. The interior is a masterpiece of Romanesque- Gothic architecture.
