Our Editor Andrew is on a long holiday to Australia to visit his new Grandaughter and we do hope that he is having a wonderful time. We do thank Andrew for all his hard work in producing our Newsletters. So this edition will not be the usual standard but it comes with our best wishes. Correction: We wish to correct an error in the last edition and announce that Dawn Goodson raised 8400 for her Wing Walk and not 400 as printed. What a wonderful result and our heartfelt thanks to Dawn. Not one to rest on her laurels, she now intends to abseil down the Spinaker Tower in Portsmouth on Sunday July 2 nd at 2.00pm. She already has 8 people who are willing to do it with her!!! MORE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!! ZIP4MND Our Zip-wire challenge at Bournemouth Pier was the centrepiece of the Big Bus awareness day on 11 th June. This was our involvement in the South Coast Road Trip made by Clive and Lyn Hudson, who were sponsored to travel by public transport from Broadstairs in Kent to Lands End, raising awareness of MND at each stopping point. The day started early for some, with Liz and Martin having to drop off gazebos, tables, and everything else needed for the day to the pier entrance before access was closed at 9a.m. By the time

Bournemouth holidaymakers were strolling to the pier after their breakfasts, our stalls were already set up, with tombola, children s lucky dip, and registration point for the ZIP4MND challenge. Clive and Lyn arrived on the bus from Southampton soon after 1p.m., and were welcomed by our Branch Chair and Secretary, Judith Mills and Doriel Phillips. A bevy of other representatives of the MND Association also came, including Pam Fry, Regional Fundraiser for the South East, who had been a big help in organising the day, Claire Tuckett, our Volunteering Development Co-ordinator, and, from National Office, Karen Pearce, Director of Care (South). Hilary Fairfield, Regional Care Development Adviser was also there, bravely bringing her young children to watch her zipping. The MP for Bournemouth West, Conor Burns, also came along to support us and find out more about MND and the work of our Branch. We were also pleased to receive Councillor Blair Crawford from the Bournemouth City Council who engaged so readily with our members. Pam had arranged for us to have use of the Rock Reef zip wire from 2p.m. to 4p.m., with sponsorship money and a share of the zip costs coming to our Branch. Zippers had to climb a circular staircase at the end of the pier to a height of 60 feet, and then launch themselves into space, sliding down the zipwire and soaring over the sea to the landing pad on the beach, supervised by staff from Rock Reef and welcomed by cheering supporters. About 50 people took on the ZIP4MND challenge, including Clive Hudson, who certainly deserved a rest from his travels at the end of the day, and a member of Dorset Fire and Rescue, who zipped wearing a full Hazchem suit. All in all it was a great day, both in raising awareness and in adding 2000 to the Branch funds. MP Conor Burns signs Clive and Lyn s T Shirts.

30 th Anniversary Tea Party In October the Branch celebrated 30 years of activity within the BH area. A Tea Party was arranged for Volunteers past and present. Thank you to Melanie and Sandra for a lovely cake. It was good to see Audrey Beall MBE after her long illness cutting the cake as one of our longest serving volunteers and Jane Clark one of our newest. THANK YOU TO ALL OUR VOLUNTEERS WHO HAVE HELPED THE BRANCH DURING THE PAST 30 YEARS. We couldn t have done it without you. Aromatherapy In our Autumn edition of the Newsletter we featured some of the comments received from our clients regarding the benefits of massage that is provided by the Branch for many of our people living with MND. This is what Andrew Culliford had to say.. I love having Sonja come to give me a massage as she always brings with her a smile and an upbeat attitude. Nothing is too difficult, awkward or unachievable. Sonja never makes me feel "different" she always treats me as Andrew and never as a client with Motor Neurone Disease. My family love having her visit as we always end up having a good bit of banter and a laugh! To top it all her massages are superb, in fact the very best, mainly because you can tell Sonja really cares about what she does. Thank you Sonja! Xx Thank you Andrew. Bournemouth AFC

Ian Clark our Branch Treasurer receives a cheque for 1500 from Bradley Smith, Bournemouth Football Club. Player Liaison Officer Peter Barry introduced Brad and explained the Club s Charity Giving. Our grateful thanks to the Bournemouth Football Club and our best wishes to the whole team for the rest of the Season. A couple of Cherries supporters who were happy to be present!

Brad with some of the Branch members. What a lovely young man! Thanks Brad and all our best wishes for your future. ++++
