Welcome Carol Marlow, Managing Director, P&O s World cruise is evolving. It s a modern, stylish and effortless way to see the world. It s a two week holiday in the Far East, a month long adventure in South America or a 109 night circumnavigation of the globe. I m delighted to introduce to you our largest and most diverse world cruise programme to. There are four ships, taking in 128 ports in 55 countries, with 96 separate holidays to choose more ways than ever before to see the world. Choose five world cruises, 18 cruises to/ Australia and New Zealand plus 73 shorter worldwide fly-cruises. You could say that in 2011/2012, the world really is your oyster. However, you ll soon discover that the world seen by sea contains much more than just one pearl! There s the iconic destinations of San Francisco, New Orleans, Rio de Janeiro, Sydney, Hong Kong and Cape Town. You can sail through the Panama and Suez Canals, round the Cape of Good Hope, up the Amazon, through the Chilean fjords or under the Golden Gate Bridge. Explore teeming streets one day and deserted beaches another. The list goes on, as do the experiences waiting to be had. And these experiences can all be found in the pages of this 2011/2012 world cruises preview leaflet which gives you an introduction to the world cruises in advance of the first edition, due to launch 1 September 2010. This leaflet features exactly the same choice of holidays as its larger counterpart, but if you book by 31 August 2010, on selected holidays you ll save twice the amount as you would if you waited until September. If you have a particular holiday in mind that s not featured here, please call us. We can tailor your embarkation and disembarkation points to most major ports in the world cruise programme. Just let us know what you ve got in mind. Enjoy your adventures! With kind regards Why P&O s? Favourite Company 2010 We are Britain s Number One A holiday at sea is quite unlike any other; the world s most amazing sights and experiences are brought to your door and your ship becomes a part of your holiday like no ordinary hotel ever could. P&O s has been perfecting the art of cruising for over 170 years and our trusted expertise means that more British passengers choose to travel with us than any other cruise line (we ve once again been voted Britain s Favourite Company*). A familiar home home atmosphere can be enjoyed on each of our ships, which is a result of our tailored entertainment, menus and style of service, all of which are tuned to the tastes of our British passengers West End style theatre shows, Michelin-starred British chefs and attentive yet unobtrusive waiters are just some examples of our distinctly British style. The holiday of a lifetime We want you to enjoy the holiday of a lifetime, every time. To this end, we view the little touches with as much importance as we do the large ones. Our Great British Sailaway parties are an institution loved by many, but so too are the goodnight chocolates placed on your pillow every night. There s often carefully planned visits famous faces to share their personal stories, but sometimes it s the surprise events that bring as much delight, such as an unannounced visit a pod of dolphins port side, which is why we ll always let you know if there s something we think you might like. Sail with us and you ll discover that the journey is as much a part of your holiday as the destinations themselves. We love the sea There is something undeniably romantic about sea travel and on board you ll find many of the great cruising traditions alive and well, bands at the quayside and afternoon tea, to Captain s cocktail parties and deck games all blended with modern cosmopolitan experiences and enjoyed in the contemporary and stylish environment to be found on board. Which ship you choose and how you spend your holiday is, of course, up to you, but rest assured that our own P&O s style of service and a welcoming atmosphere are guaranteed. To find out more about the four ships in the fleet undertaking a world cruise, and to compare their facilities, see pages 8 & 9. The world at your feet As our ships set sail in 2012 we will be celebrating our 175th anniversary an incredible milestone for our company, as we can trace our roots back to the Peninsular Steam Navigation Company in the 1830s. During our long and illustrious history we have explored the four corners of the globe again and again, searching out new ports and revisiting old favourites. These experiences have enabled us to offer the very best world cruise itineraries which visit the world s most iconic destinations; made even more so when arriving by sea, where you might sail right beneath San Francisco s Golden Gate Bridge or into Sydney s glorious harbour. And when it comes to exploring your many ports of call, our optional shore excursions are another way to tailor your holiday. And you ll also find we have discovered the very best the world has to offer and have brought it on board cuisine created by Michelin-starred chefs Marco Pierre White and Gary Rhodes to the very latest spa treatments and even our talented entertainment troupes. Destinations A world cruise in 2011 or 2012 promises to be something very special indeed. With four ships embarking on five journeys of between 72 and 109 nights, a South American adventure for our latest addition, Adonia, and the opportunity to join your ship for the whole journey, or just part it, these holidays are some of the most exciting and flexible in existence. Our departures offer the ultimate stress-free way to start your holiday and if you would prefer to join your ship in the sun, or are simply seeking a shorter holiday option than a full world cruise, you can have confidence that we are experts in fly-cruising too. Incredible value Our world cruises start just 90 per person per night inclusive of accommodation and dining plus a host of daytime and evening entertainment. Our holidays are priced in Pounds Sterling, as are our shore excursions and any additional items you choose to purchase on board, so unfavourable exchange rates needn t affect you. For a complete guide to what s included in your holiday fare, please turn to page 30. To discover more about the 4 ships embarking on world cruises in 2011/2012 and the facilities they each offer, turn to pages 8 & 9. *Britain s Favourite Line as voted by readers of the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday at the Travel Weekly Globe wards 2010. 90 per 90 person person night per night price price is subject is subject to to availability and and based based on two on two adults adults sharing sharing the lowest the grade lowest grade within the within the type for type cruises for X201, cruises J201, X201, D202 and J201, R201. In good company Our world cruises aren t just for experienced cruisers; there s a real mix of passengers on board. In fact a quarter of all holidaymakers haven t cruised with us before. These cruises appeal to a wide age range too of the travellers booked on our 2011 world cruises, around a third are below retirement age at 55-64 and just under half are between 65 and 74. i d love to go there... We all do it. Browsing a magazine or watching a TV programme... we ve all said to ourselves, I d love to go there. Relax between ports A world cruise offers a wonderful chance for you to pamper yourself in the luxurious spas and beauty salons we have on board our ships. Treatments are available that reflect the cultures you visit. So you could have a Balinese head massage when the ship moors in Bali, a Thai massage in Phuket, or an Indian head massage in Mumbai., on any day, there are a wide range of treatments to sample, all designed to sooth and restore. This choice of treatments will vary across the fleet, but you re sure to discover new ways of relaxing so you re rejuvenated for your next trip ashore. I d love to walk beside the Sydney Opera House and look up at the magnificent Harbour Bridge. I d love to ride an elephant through the tea fields of Sri Lanka, eat a lemon curry at a market stall in Bangkok, climb the Great Wall of China or gaze out upon a Chilean glacier. I d love to visit Cape Town and wonder at Table Mountain. I d love to sail under the Golden Gate Bridge. The longer we live, the longer the list of places and experiences gets. But how will we ever get to see ALL those places we ve so often dreamed of? There s a simple answer... world cruises. The easiest way to see the greatest places on earth is to travel to them by sea. The world cruises in this leaflet allow you to fulfil those promises you ve made to yourself. Because the beauty of choosing a world cruise is, in one trip, you can visit so many of the places you ve always dreamed of. And visit them in style. From Xingang Great Wall of China Enjoy the world s cuisine A world cruise with P&O s offers amazing opportunities to sample new dishes as you travel port to port and one culinary culture to another. Dim Sum in Hong Kong? A peanut curry in Kuala Lumpur? A seafood platter in Melbourne? Sushi in Nagasaki?, every day, there s a huge choice of dining venues, each with menus kept varied to keep your taste buds delighted no matter how long the cruise. Uniquely for world cruises, guest chefs often come aboard in Singapore, Australia and India for three to four days at a time. They bring their mastery of local cuisine to our menus and provide demonstrations for those interested in learning their secrets. Often they are joined by wine experts who will explain their territory s vintages and suggest best buys for when you return home. With us, a world cruise is a foodie s and wine lover s delight. With P&O s, you sail serenely between destinations, enjoying fine dining and a wonderful choice of entertainment, leisure and sports facilities a life of luxury with no need to pack and unpack in each place. And if you opt for a cruise sailing, you ll have the most relaxing start to your holiday. No need to worry about finding the right hotel plus, with P&O s, no need to worry about exchange rates as everything s priced in Pounds Sterling. Yet day after day, you are in one of the world s most magnificent destinations, fulfilling your dreams. The five world cruises featured in this leaflet will each take you to many different far flung places. The first of these offers something very special: Alaska, taking in the west coast of North America as you head for the last frontier and the east coast on your return. Two cruises circumnavigate the world. Aurora sails west, heading first for the Caribbean before making for South East Asia via Honolulu, New Zealand and Australia, then taking in Sri Lanka, India and the Middle East. Oriana travels in the opposite direction, visiting many different destinations along the way. Arcadia s cruise our longest at 109 nights focuses on the Far East and Australia, stopping pretty much everywhere you could wish to see in the region before returning via South Africa, Namibia, St Helena and Tenerife. Adonia is our smallest ship and her world cruise takes you to South America. Her smaller size allows you to travel up the Amazon to Manaus, cruise past Chilian glaciers and visit Buenos Aires and New Orleans. For many, a world cruise is a once in a lifetime treat: perhaps a reward after a long period of working hard or a celebration of a special anniversary. But with such a wide range of world cruises, (no other cruise line offers as many), you can enjoy the unsurpassable experience of a world cruise several times. From 90 per person per day, with meals and on board entertainment included, a P&O s world cruise is exceptionally good value. P&O s is the world s most established cruise line: we have been taking travellers to far flung destinations by sea for over 170 years. So we like to celebrate cruise traditions, many of which we introduced. When our ships cross the equator, we hold a Crossing of the Line ceremony to ask permission King Neptune, Ruler of the Seven Seas. Although you ll find the latest in modern entertainment facilities on every ship including cinema screens, state of the art gyms, saunas and more, you ll still see deck games played on board. And a band always plays when we set sail and fireworks light up the sky. It s an event. And, if you are about to embark on a world cruise and say goodbye to several months of the English winter, it s an event that s worth celebrating all the more. The special atmosphere on board our world cruises is unique. It s the excitement and anticipation of the delights to come. There s the thrill of knowing you re going to meet many fascinating people, some of whom will no doubt become lifelong friends. If you ve been on one of our cruises before, you ll know about the real sense of camaraderie between passengers that develops as soon as you get on board. On a world cruise, you feel this even more strongly, even if you join for part of the journey with one of our cruises to/ Australia and New Zealand or a worldwide fly-cruise holiday. Although you re away for so long, every day is different. The destinations vary as you move one famous port to another, taking trips ashore to see why these great attractions have earned their fame. When we stop in Sydney, for instance, you ll have a choice of nine different trips including one that takes you an hour or so inland to the magnificent Blue Mountains that sweep into the distance and the great interior. Imagine that choice across thirty to forty destinations? You ll be time in the places you ve always longed to visit. A world cruise is where the dreams of a lifetime finally become a reality. 90 per person per night price is subject to availability and based on two adults sharing the lowest grade within the type for cruises X201, J201, D202 and R201. So much to do Some people love to do absolutely nothing on board but socialise, relax and dine. And that s fine. A cruise is a wonderfully flexible holiday and you re in complete control of your time. For many though, the entertainment on board a ship is one of the most important factors in deciding on a cruise line. We know this at P&O s so our Entertainment Officers always schedule plenty of events. In fact, there are so many, it s impossible to attend all of them. Highlights include talks expert guest speakers and celebrities who share their personal insights. These have included Formula 1 authority Murray Walker, BBC foreign correspondent Brian Hanrahan, the broadcaster, writer and politician Martin Bell and renowned marine historian Ken Vard. All our ships screen the latest film releases. And they have theatres where our own entertainment troupe often premier shows so you will have the first chance to see West End style musical productions and more. Adding further choice are international cabaret artists, classical concerts and live music our on board bands who play everything disco to jazz and classical. 4 WORLD CRUISES 2011/2012 www.pocruises.co.uk 5

What would I do if I won the lottery? is a question most people have asked themselves at some stage of their lives. Taking a world cruise would often be top of the list. There s no doubt that you ll certainly need to be pretty comfortable before contemplating such a trip and you ll also need plenty of time a world cruise can take anything 72 to 109 nights (although you can always join for part of the journey). But amazingly, a world cruise doesn t have to be as expensive as you might think. The lowest grade on one of these voyages can cost 7,099 per person. That s not a sum to be sneezed at but, when you consider what s on offer, you ll see it is extraordinary value for. You ll see incredible and exotic destinations without the hassle or expense of having to fly to them and, for months at a time, you ll enjoy everything that a cruise has to offer (more of that later). And if you haven t got the time or for that, you can join a world cruise for shorter worldwide fly-cruises or cruises to/ Australia or New Zealand. So what exactly do you get on a cruise, regardless of how long you are on a ship? I ve written about travel for over 20 years and in addition to a healthy suntan, it s given me a unique insight into the value of cruising compared with land-based holidays. A good place to start is the food. Breakfast, lunch and dinner in silver-service restaurants are included as are meals and snacks in the buffet restaurants, grills and pizzerias. There s no extra charge for the daily afternoon tea of sandwiches, cakes and pastries, which is a meal in itself. For a small cover charge (typically ranging 5 to 30 per person), you can eat in a restaurant created by a Michelin-star chef such as Marco Pierre White and Gary Rhodes. It is, literally, impossible to go hungry on a ship. With all that food, holidaymakers naturally worry that they ll put on weight. But whenever I ve been on a cruise, I ve actually gone home fitter than when I left. Of course, you can lie on deck all day reading a book and sipping cocktails. But I get itchy feet in the afternoon and can t resist the temptation to join in various games of football or basketball on deck. WHAT S INCLUDED IN YOUR FARE SUMPTUOUS DINING Breakfast, lunch and dinner in our silver-service main restaurants Meals and snacks in our buffet restaurants, daytime grills and pizzerias afternoon tea of sandwiches, cakes and pastries dining in restaurants created by our Michelin-starred chefs (a modest cover charge applies) ENTERTAINMENT DAY & NIGHT dazzling West-End style performances in the ship s theatres Comedy and cabaret live music, piano recitals and tribute bands Cinema and film screenings dance classes, cookery demonstrations, language classes and special interest seminars HEALTH & WELLBEING Full use of the sports court for football, deck tennis, basketball and more A choice of swimming pools and whirlpool spas Fully equipped gym sauna and steam rooms LUXURY STATEROOM ACCOMMODATION A wide choice of en suite, air conditioned accommodation Your own personal steward TV, radio, hairdryer, refrigerator and safe egyptian cotton bed linen, designer tea and coffee making facilities and indulgent pamper packs The value of cruising by Jeremy Skidmore And to prepare for a big night out or rather a big night in on the ship the gym is a world away the one I use at home. It s got the same state-ofthe-art equipment, but instead of staring at a blank wall I can work out overlooking the ocean. It s not a great hardship. Every night on a ship can be a big night. There may have been some questionable entertainment in years gone by, but now the ships theatres host shows that would not look out of place in the West End of London. There s also comedy and cabaret, live music, dancing and cinema screenings all at no extra cost. It would be wrong not to mention the comfortable s, with their Egyptian cotton bed linen and tea and coffee making facilities. But the best part is having your own personal steward. You don t get everything included in the price of a cruise. You ll need to budget for a few added extras, such as drinks, spa treatments and excursions. But they are priced in Pounds Sterling, so you can easily keep a handle on how much you re and you won t be subject to temperamental exchange rates. So, is a world cruise expensive? It s not cheap, but when you work out what s included, it s exceptional value for. You need to know This leaflet must be read in conjunction with the P&O s 2011 second edition brochure published July 2010. Alternatively you can find the location of your nearest MASTA travel medicine clinic at www.masta.org Yellow Fever a Yellow Fever vaccination is required for all passengers travelling on Adonia cruises D202, DAC, DAE, DAG, DAH, DCG and DCH. If Yellow Fever vaccination is contra-indicated for medical reasons, an exemption letter can be issued by your Medical Practitioner and this must be brought with you to the ship. Local Port Health officials will then decide if a vaccination waiver can be waived. Malaria there is a risk of Malarial transmission in the following areas.
