Thanksgiving will be here soon. We will have our dinner and get together at the Diamond Baptist Church outside of Rosepine. Our Hobo Stew at The Ashfield's home was great thank you so much for coming and for the great host that we had. It was also proven that you can pour a 12 oz can of water into a small 4 oz coffee cup 5 times and the cup would not overflow!! Wow!! Also it was proved that you could drop a raw egg 6 feet over a floor without it breaking. The things you can learn by making these events are unreal!! Get your bike lights working and shined up. Bike night on the square is the 16th of November good food and fellowship!! So alot to look forward to. I want to thank everybody that could make the escort of our friend and Chapter Member Willie Rogers. He will be sadly missed by all. Our prayers and thoughts are with Abby and their family's. Many in the family expressed how much they appreciated the Chapter coming and how much Willie enjoyed riding with the Chapter and we all know that he did so much. Everybody has been doing different things lately and at this time of the year shopping comes in, and alot of traveling to visit families. So just remember everybody has their mind on everything else but drive like your invisible and arrive alive!! See you at the Gathering La-m Chapter Directors Mickey and Mary Searels Our gathering place is being moved to the Catfish Hut at 181 Catfish Rd, North of DeRidder. We will be changing our day to the first Tuesday of the month. Meeting starts at 6:30. Come early if you would like to eat. They offer other things on the menu besides seafood and catfish. There is an 18% gratuity on the bill

District Directors Merlin & Beverly Mayon Hello Louisiana Members November, 2012 With the end of October comes the end of the Convention season for Region H and our neighbor to the East, (MS). We have made all the District Conventions in our Region plus 2 extra Districts and I must say we enjoyed each & every one of them. We were judges at some, we attended seminars at some and we participated at some degree at all the Conventions. The last Convention in our Region was Oklahoma, in McAlester, Ok. We judged the mascots, the shirt completion and did a lot socializing with friends. The opening ceremony was followed by a dance and the theme was Gone with a Wing. Some of the party goers had some great costumes to go along with the theme while others just dressed in different costumes. The Oklahoma District Team did a great job in putting on this Convention. Next year, I hope they control the weather better and not let it get so cold (ha ha)! It makes it hard to enjoy that homemade ice cream. At closing the District had a catered meal which is different as closings go, but the meal was good. Next was the Mississippi Convention in Biloxi, at the Imperial Place. We more or less just relaxed, even though we volunteered they told us everything was taken care of and to just enjoy and enjoy we did. As any officer at any level will tell you it s nice just to relax and have fun at a Convention when you do some work at most all the Conventions you attend. The next thing on the GWRRA calendar is the Region Business Meeting in Marshall, TX, November 17, when all Districts Teams in our Region get together and share ideas and learn about new programs in GWRRA or changes in current ones. I know everyone has experienced the making of new and lasting friends in GWRRA, myself included. I just spent 10 days on the road with one and traveled to Arkansas and Oklahoma on a hunting trip. In Arkansas another friend parked his 5 th wheel camper on location for our use to hunt on his property, which we used for 4 nights and 5 days, then on to another friend s house in Oklahoma. This friend and his wife opened their home to us to stay. When some of their chapter members found out that we were there, they invited us over for a very nice evening meal. We hunted with this friend for 3 days and spent 5 nights in his home. We even went to their Chapter Halloween costume party.

DISTRICT DIRECTORS (CON T) This is one of the reasons why I support GWRRA because of all the lasting friendships Beverly and I have made over past 13-1/2 years. Maybe next year s trip will yield a deer or two for the freezer. A few days after the Region Business Meeting, on Thursday, the 22 nd will be Thanksgiving. We would like to wish each and every one of you a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING P.S. For your information, we have changed the date of Wingless Weekend to the 22 nd and 23 rd of February, 2013. Location to be announced. See you all soon. Your Friends for Fun, Safety & Knowledge Merlin & Beverly Mayon Louisiana District Directors P. O. Box 3527 Morgan City, LA 70381 C/985-519-1524

By The Book Gold Wing Road Riders Association Jack Wagner Region H Trainer The End is Coming The end of the year, that is. And since we are approaching the annual meetings where financial reports are due, I thought I'd use this opportunity to remind everyone what is required. These same financial and property reports are also to be completed whenever there is a change in Director or Treasurer, regardless of the time of year. Directors and treasurers should be familiar with the annual financial report. It provides a straightforward accounting of all income and expenditures for the period for which it is prepared (calendar year unless a Director/Treasurer change occurs during the year). It also includes the 'opening' and 'closing' balance in the checking account. A template for the financial report can be found in the Officer Resources section of Officer Connection at www.gwrra.org. There is also a very helpful document titled Financial Report Items Breakdown. That document lists just about every type of expenditure or revenue source and which reporting category to place it in. Each Chapter, District, and Region Director is responsible for the control of funds and property that belongs to his/her respective office. This includes property that may be in the possession of other officers or team members. Any item purchased with Chapter, District, or Regional funds, belongs to that entity. tems purchased with official funds for the use of the Director, or another officer or team member, must be noted and forwarded to the new Director when a change of officer occurs. The property log should include a description of the item (what it is and brand), serial number or model number (if applicable), date of purchase, purchase price, and condition. If the item becomes inoperable or no longer usable, that should also be noted. If the item was discarded, recycled or donated, that should be noted along with the reason for disposal. This information must be kept up-to-date and passed on to the new Director with a copy to your appointing officer when you leave office. A copy should be kept in your file as well. Keeping appropriate and accurate financial records will always minimize questions concerning any items purchased during the tenure of any Director. The annual Financial Report is the prime document used to report all income and expenditures and also includes the property log. Should there be any requirement to justify income, expenditures, or the status of any property, it is the responsibility of the Director to produce the necessary receipts or other materials to answer such inquiries. It is also the responsibility of each Director to maintain this financial backup as a matter of record after he/she leaves office GWRRA Volunteer Leaders, must be above reproach. Accurate and complete records are a must. In every seminar or course that I teach, I highlight trust and honesty as characteristics that every leader should exhibit. It is the Volunteer Leader s responsibility to ensure their team has a complete understanding of this policy, and supports it. Learn Something New Then Pass It On! Jack Wagner Region H Trainer

ASSISTANT CHAPTER DIRECTORS ROBERT AND JOAN PARTIGIANONI HELLO MUDBUGS, Well October has gone and what a month. We all complained about the hot weather during the summer and now we are in the midst of a cold snap as I write this article. We lost one member of our dear Mudbug family with the sudden and unexpected loss of Willie Rogers. Our Prayers go out to Abigail in this time of grief. Several of our Chapter went to the funeral and burial. Abigail asked our Chapter to provide a motorcycle escort for the services. Several of the Mudbugs made the Mississippi District Convention. Bobby and Lori Bryant made us feel welcome. It was lots of fun both at the Casino and over at the vendors. While we were there, the cities of Gulfport and Biloxi had Cruising the Coast with just about every kind of old car you could want to see. The cars for the most part were parked in empty lots and at the hotels along the beach and everyone would drive down the beach road and look at the vehicles. Once you saw something interesting you would stop and take a look. The remainder of the old cars would travel up and down the road. Hence traffic was a nightmare on the beach road but it still was amazing to see thousands of old cars. Jimmy and BJ did a great job at serving the entire Chapter Hobo Stew. What a nice job and thank you both for the hospitality. Richard and Suzie Davis have a brand new 2012 Honda Goldwing White Trike. Not to be out done Joan and I have bought a new 2012 Honda Goldwing Blue Bike and ordered the trike kit for it. Robert and Joan Partigianoni Assistant Chapter Directors Chapter M

Chapter Educator Charles and Cynthia Simpson Thoughts for a safe riding for October 2012 WINTER RIDING As winter approaches, falling temperatures will ground a lot of motorcycles till spring. But plummeting mercury doesn t have to confine you to 4 wheels. Some of the best rides have been in cooler weather when there is less traffic on the road, the air is crisp and clean and there are fewer bugs. Riding in cooler weather means recognizing first and foremost it is the wind that cause your body to become chilled. It is the flow of wind or wind chill factor Holding onto your body heat is difficult if you can t block the wind. A windshield greatly reduces the airflow to your torso, so you stay warmer longer. The next essential is proper - fitting riding gear, protective garments that are neither too tight nor too loose. Always dress in layers so as the day warms up you don t overheat. Keeping in mind that our bodies are all different, so what works for one person may not work the same for you. Riding in colder temperatures means being constantly aware of how your body is handling changing temperatures. Let the cold weather get the better of you, and your ability to handle your motorcycle can be seriously impaired. When out on a late season group ride, it's a good idea to keep in mind on how much protective winter gear your fellow riders have. When cold becomes intolerable due to lack of proper protection, reaction times will be seriously compromised. So if you are one of those who prefer your 4 wheels in the winter, please keep an eye out for those of us who enjoy a little cold -weather riding. Or gear up and join us! Friends for Fun, Safety, and Knowledge.
