If you save each months copy, you then will have the Club s history book. Tickets will also be sold at our Booth at the Big Oregon Gun Show in October at the Seven Feathers Casino & Resort. Members have been sent a request for a donation for a new Storage and Workshop Building. We thank you all for your support for this fund raiser event, which allows us to continue a low cost Annual Membership Fee. On Saturday, September 20th, Tom Adair & Mike Cox removed all the cardboard, wood, paper, and In general cleaned up the 100 Yard Range, and then hauled it to the Transfer Station. (Continued story about the South Umpqua Rod and Gun Club Our Page 2) Reprinted with permission of The South Umpqua Historical Society, Inc., Canyonville, Oregon. In the early morning on Wednesday, September 10th 2014, a 200-250# Black Bear was seen at the Club Gate, so be alert in the early morning hours and the late evening, they are present. 4

Since Winter is fast approaching, we have proceeded with the site excavation and construction of the Storage Building Pad. A Concrete Slab will be poured, followed by the actual building construction. This excavation has also allowed us to construct a new earth berm and add height to the Easterly berm at the 50 Yard Range. By so doing, we saved considerable dollars over constructing it as a separate project, and it made a safer range to be used for our Monthly shoots. We are still short of funds to construct the new Storage Shed, any help with a donation will be greatly appreciated. Here are pictures of the work as of September 18th: Start of Excavation for Storage Shed Start of New Easterly Bern Finished Raised Berm at 50 Yard Range Shows Finished Berms and New Range Another view of New Range Finished Pad for Storage Building Formed Slab w/ rebar Pour Crew all working together Almost finished with Concrete Pour After parking the mowers, ATV & Trailers, the Board determined that the Storage Shed must be larger, particularly for future growth of the Club. The new size of the Storage Shed will be 36 x 16, with allows 1) 24 x 16 for Equipment Storage and 2) 12 x 16 Workshop for target repair and construction work. Greg Snider has headed up the forming & pour crew consisting of the following members: Forming; Greg & Jim Hanser: Pour Crew; Greg, Jim Hanser, Jim Westbrook, and Shane Russell. A Hugh THANK YOU to the whole crew for an excellent & terrific job!!! Greg and Jim Hanser finished the slab, and having been a General Engineering Estimator for over 30 years, and specializing in Concrete Projects, I can honestly say this was a great finished slab, and something that all Club Members can be very proud to have helped with their generous donation toward the start of our storage shed. 5

Club Member Bryan Tyner won the 30/30 Rifle in our Raffle drawing held at 2:30 PM September 14th at the Roseburg Gun Show, at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. Bryan has been a member of our Club for almost 2 years. We had a shooter rest the barrel of the rifle on one of the Club s canvas bags, and the muzzle blew a hole in the canvas bag. Most rifles today have floating barrels, and the barrel should not rest on any pad as this can alter the direction of your shot, and may damage your rifle. Support any Rifle on the stock support made to hold the Rifle, for a more accurate shot pattern. DENNIS & ART BILL & ART Both Dennis Blanchard, Chief Range Safety Officer and Bill Regina, Club Treasurer met with Art Robinson at the Roseburg Gun Show. Art agreed that he will be able to attend our next Club Membership Meeting on October 5th at 2PM. I am sure that it will be good to hear from him on the issues together with his Ideas and Objectives, if elected to the U.S. Congress. Here is the Finished Storage Shed Slab and in the background is the lumber that was donated to Club by Lynn Herbert, of Herbert Lumber Company This donation also includes wood for completing The Support Wall at the Pistol Range in order to Install the westerly Retrieval Station. We are so grateful for this Lumber Donation by Lynn, who has done so much for our Club. 6
