Enjoy a picnic lunch near Oldupai Gorge, site of the Leakey Digs excavation of some of the oldest human skeletons ever found. Dunia Camp offers great lion viewing and is located in the Seronera area of the central Serengeti a 12,000 sq. mile savanna grassland. Here, you may visit the actual kopjes (rocky outcrops) featured in the iconic scene of the upcoming live-action Lion King remake where Rafiki presents Simba to the Animal Kingdom. See, or rather hear, the Singing Rocks ancient painted stones that sound like bells when struck, that the Maasai used to talk to ancestors. Grab a rock and take a listen. Serengeti s famous annual wildlife migration stretches more than a thousand miles and is most known for vast herds of wildebeests, zebras and Thomson s gazelle. The herds gather on the Tanzanian side of the ecosystem from approximately November/December through early August. In search of greener grasses, they make their perennial pilgrimage from the Mara into the Serengeti and back. DAYS 8-10 DUNIA CAMP SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK Robbert Koene/Dunia Camp/Asilia Africa One of the world s last cheetah strongholds. Facing increasing pressure from humans and land encroachment, only 9,000 to 12,000 cheetahs are left in the African wild. The Serengeti is generally considered the best place on earth to view cheetahs. Cheetahs do not live in prides and are solitary in nature. They tend to hunt alone, although occasionally brothers or a mother training her cubs hunt together. Many young cubs have been born the last few years. A mother usually has between 3 and 5 cubs. Only 2 to 3 of them reach maturity.
