Coarsegold Gold Prospectors Newsletter A Non Profit Organization Established May 8, 1997 Presidents Corner June 2018 Hello fellow prospectors, Summer has arrived! That being said, we just completed our first announcement and presentation of scholarships at Yosemite and Minarets High Schools. Congratulations to Hunter Duke of Yosemite High School and Evana Holevas of Minarets High School. The recipients were selected by a committee of club volunteers and were notified of the award at the end of the school year. Each will receive a $500 check upon presentation of proof of enrollment. Gayle and I attended award night and presented the scholarships. Best wishes and success to both as they move on to college life. I would like to thank all who donated to the scholarship fund. We received enough donations to cover both scholarships this year. Prospecting looks good this year. Reports I received indicate Bonell has been very productive. Winter storms changed the waterway exposing new areas of bedrock and we all know what lies on top of the bedrock. Good luck to all! If you happen to be prospecting in the heat remember to keep yourself hydrated by drinking water or your favorite sports drinks. Alcohol and drinks that contain caffeine dehydrate you, so save those drinks for later. Watch for signs you may be overheating such as heat cramps, exhaustion and heat stroke. Heat stroke is a medical emergency where your body temperature is above 103 degrees, skin may be hot, red, dry or damp, fast pulse rate, headache, dizziness, nausea, confusion and as loss of consciousness. Take care of yourselves while prospecting. Our next meeting is at Texas Flat on June 23rd and there will be a Coin Shoot. The cost to enter the event is $10, bring your metal detectors and pin pointers it s going to be fun. If you can get the Newsletter by e-mail, please do and save club funds. E-mail Dave at lacyhill@comcast.net, Attn Newsletter. Thank You, Your President, Frank Benard P a g e 1
