We had a really good meeting this month with several new members in attendance. Our car show was the best one we have ever had. I want to thank Brenda Murphy and Mary Clayton for all their work this year. You did a fabulous job! I would also like to thank every person who had anything to do with the show. We are already working on next year s show and I am pleased to announce that Richard Peak and Jack Lovin have agreed to be co-chairs for next year. They have asked Jeff Hunter to co-chair with them and he has graciously agreed to help. They will be asking others to help and they cannot do it without the help of many others. I know you will step up and help because our club members are SO GOOD at doing that. Richard Peak was kind enough this week to take time out to go to Fayetteville Auto Park and meet with the new General Manager. Richard reports that the new manager was very gracious and easy to talk to. He placed an order for the second half of their pledge monies and Richard told me yesterday he received the check yesterday. Richard told me that Fayetteville Auto Park has also agreed to be a sponsor for next year. I thank Richard and the management at Fayetteville Auto Park. Don t forget to come to the Hawg Country cookout in Eureka Springs on Friday, October 4 at 6 p.m. at Lookout Lodge. You need to bring three things: 1. a chair to sit in; 2. a food dish for the pot luck; and 3. your own drinks. This is a lot of fun and there will be a lot of great people there. I hope to see you there. ~ John
Next Club Meeting: Our next regular meeting will be October 7, 2013, 7:00 p.m. at Western Sizzlin 3492 West Sunset Avenue in Springdale Summer s End Car Show 2013 THANK YOU TO ALL WHO VOLUNTEERED to help with this year s car show! We had the largest attendance ever and made more money for our charities than in any other year. The following charities will benefit from the proceeds of our 2013 show: Benton County Meals on Wheels and Children s Advocacy Center. Thanks to this year s car show judges! Remember to thank our generous sponsors: Fayetteville Auto Park, O Reilly s, Cabela s, and Dillards. Thanks to Gwen Adams and all who contributed to or helped with the silent auction. It was very successful.
Car Show 2014 Save the date for the 2014 Summer s End Car Show, August 22 and 23. Members who took part in planning and working on the 2013 car show and those planning to help next year met to discuss this year s show and offer suggestions for the 2014 show. Some of the best things about our show mentioned by attendees were the Friday evening event and Vicki s music. Judging was consistent. They like our location and shopping opportunities. Everyone in our club is so friendly they felt welcome and had a good time. Suggestions: We talked about possibly having two entrances and taking photos of cars after they have entered the mall and had time to clean their cars or give them that option. We may want to develop a checklist for the mall to be sure they get everything set up that we want. We should contact the mall in December or January and get them a check in January. The mall has tables and chairs we may be able to use and they have a sound board we might use. It was suggested we ask the mall to advertise the show for us and we should get the media involved. A promotional suggestion was to put up flyers at Chevrolet dealers shops. Most agreed that it would be better to have Friday evening registration at the back of the area to minimize congestion. Get a block of rooms from the hotel early. Remind the hotel to have a car wash station and have the food area prepared for us. Remind them to turn off irrigation system. Gwen Adams wants to step down as silent auction chair. There was discussion about making the silent auction smaller with only the more valuable gifts. We may also have a vendor from Eureka Springs who would have items for sale on Friday evening. We may have a 50/50 pot on Friday evening and on Saturday at the show. Karen McMillen also wants to step down from registration. The car show committee rented a storage unit for storing the banners and frames, awnings, and all other equipment and materials. Nominated Charities for 2014 The following charities were nominated to benefit from the 2014 car show: Compassion House which provides a home, education, and care for young mothers. Located in Elm Springs, they have room for about 12 to stay at the house, but they also help many others. Nominated by Mark Baker. Chase Family Foundation helps a number of individuals and groups including the humane society, shelters, Meals on Wheels, and many others. Nominated by John Bakker. Police Athletic League (PAL) was organized by the Benton County Sherriff s Office as a community crime prevention program. The group is trying to raise funds to build an afterschool shelter. Nominated by Gwen Adams. Information on each nominated charity will be presented at the October meeting and the club will then vote to select two charities at the November meeting. Save the Date! The Northwest Arkansas Corvette Club Christmas Party will be Saturday, December 14 at the Springdale Holiday Inn We hope you will all be able to join us.
