DISNEYLAND PARIS 2019 Parent/Guardian Information Evening

DEPARTURE Leaving from Penllergaer Service Station at 7.00pm, Thursday 7 th March 2019 Upon boarding coaches, pupils will be expected to present staff with; their passport, EHIC card, and any medication they will need to take over the weekend. Medication will need to be placed in a clear bag and labelled with the pupil name and dosage requirements. Pupils need to ensure that they are wearing comfy clothes, it is a long drive. Pupils also need to remember that the clothes they wear to depart, will be the clothes that they wear in the park on the Friday. Please ensure pupils have had an evening meal before departure. Please note that once luggage is placed in the hold of the coach, pupils will not have access to this until the Friday night upon check in at the hotel. Pillows and blankets are allowed on the coaches.

DEPARTURE Please pack anything that you think pupils may need whilst travelling and for the first day in the in a rucksack to board the coach with. Please can parents refrain from parking in the coach bays at the service area. We have three coaches taking us to Disney, and just under 100 pupils attending, this is the safest place for us to be able to load luggage and pupils. Our timescales are extremely tight, the coaches will have to depart from Penllergaer at 7.00pm to make our crossing at Dover (taking into consideration driver breaks) Please can you make sure you are there, ready and waiting from 6.45pm to board. Members of staff will be there anytime from 6.30pm.

TRAVELLING Pupils will be reminded that seatbelts must be worn at all times and remain seated whilst the coach is in motion (except in cases of toilet usage!). We will have 4 members of staff aboard each coach (2 sat at the front, 2 sat in the middle, to conform with EU regulations) If pupils require travel sickness tablets please ensure these are given to pupils prior to departure with sufficient time to work before travelling. We will stop for a comfort break (15 mins) at Reading Services around 10pm. Pupils may use the toilets and buy a drink or a snack if required but no hot food or drinks are allowed on the coach. Pupils may bring small snacks and drinks for the journey however please be sensible as it is a long journey. Pupils will need to sleep so not too many sweets and no fizzy/energy drinks. Pupils must dispose of all rubbish in the bins.

TRAVELLING We will check in at the ferry terminal at 1:05 am with a predicted boarding time of 2:05. This time can change due to the vast number of coaches travelling to Paris at the some time. At this time each group leader exchanges phone numbers with pupils in their group. Once on the ferry we will set up camp in the main café seating area. Pupils may stay with us if they prefer however they are free to look around the shops on the ferry. The main rule to remember is NO PUPILS ARE TO GO ON DECK WITHOUT A MEMBER OF STAFF. Whilst on board the ferry pupils may use sterling or euros. Pupils need to follow strict instructions and stay with their allocated members of staff when we are in the hold embarking and disembarking the coaches. We will stop in the French services around 7:00 am for around half an hour pupils may buy something to eat for breakfast or they could bring some cereal bars etc from home. Of course pupils will need to pay for any purchases in euros. From this point on we will travel directly to Disneyland Paris.

IN THE PARK Once at the park we will issue pupils with a hopper pass which gives them access to both parks. It is very important that pupils look after these tickets very carefully as they will cost over 100 euros to replace on the doors. (Replacement can t be guaranteed). Pupils often store their tickets in the back of their phone cases. Pupils are requires to walk to Casey s Corner with their group leader to ensure pupil are aware of our central meeting point. Two members of staff will be on duty at this point throughout the day. Any medication required during the day can be left with the member of staff on duty. We will have a quick group briefing and then pupils will be free to explore the park.

IN THE PARK There will be two check in times throughout the day where pupils are required to return to Casey s Corner and physically check in with a member of staff. Pupils must stay in groups of at least three when they are exploring the parks. No pupils should be left alone, if there are any issues pupil must come straight back to Casey s corner to inform a member of staff. Pupils are expected to be back in good time for our evening coach pick up to go to the hotel as by this point everyone will be extremely tired, we do not expect to be kept waiting. All members of staff are contactable by mobile phone in the case of emergencies.

IN THE HOTEL We will be staying in Kyriad Magny Le Hongre Hotel which is a Disney sister hotel. This is a short shuttle ride from the park. Pupils will be allocated a room on arrival pupils should not enter other pupils room under any circumstances. Pupils need to be respectful and mindful of other guests while we are in the hotel, especially in the restaurant. There is a buffet system in the hotel with a wide selection of hot meals, salads and desserts. Pupil can eat as much as they want, however pupils are required to clear their tables at the end of the meal. Water is included with each meal, however any other drinks are at an extra cost and will need to be payed by the pupils. Once we have returned to rooms after our evening meal it will be time for showers and bed ready for an early start on the Saturday morning. There is wi-fi in the hotel, however the signal is not the greatest, especially with ahole hotel of teenagers using it.

THE JOURNEY HOME We will aim to leave the hotel at 8:45 after a short French services stop. We will travel back via Eurotunnel. Pupils will be issued with their passports at customs control and will be expected to proceed through passport controls coach by coach. After this points passports will be retained by pupils and will be their responsibility. We will stop for a late lunch around 3:00 pm in the services at Cobham. We have an estimated arrival time at Penllergaer Services of 8:30. Please can parents make every effort to be there early as by this point we will be exhausted and ready for our beds.

TRAVEL EXPENSES Pupils will need some sterling for the services in Reading, there is a Costa Coffee, a small WHSmiths and a Burger King although this will be a short stop with limited time to buy any food. While on board the ferry pupils may use sterling or euros there is obviously a café on board and a shop although it is very expensive. Pupils will need euros for the French services at breakfast time on the Friday (approximately 10) Pupils will have breakfast and evening meals in the hotel but they will need to buy lunch in the park on the Friday and Saturday. A typical burger meal with a drink in the park is around 15. Pupils may want to buy a snack or drink in the French services on the way home. Pupils will need sterling to buy food at lunch time in the services at Cobham on the journey home. Please arrange pupils money into different days and make sure they have money available for meals on the way home. The merchandise at Disney is very expensive, please make sure pupils are aware of their purses/wallets at all times and keep them safe. We would not recommend taking large amounts of money into the park in one go.

TIPS FOR DISNEY Please ensure pupils have comfy shoes and a warm/waterproof coat for the park on both days. Lots of layers are required as the weather can be unpredictable. Portable chargers for mobile phones are a necessity. It enables pupils to keep their phones charged at all times and ensures they can contact staff in an emergency. Any purchases at the park can be left with members of staff on duty. Pupil can fast track the most popular rides. We would recommend pupils choose the rides they want to go on and fast track them straight away upon entering the park. There are Disneyland apps in the itunes app store which you could download prior to the visit with lots of useful information.
