At our last Club night we had a talk by Alan Pewsey of The Dartmore Search & Rescue Group but unfortunately only 12 members were in attendance so I m not really sure if it s worthwhile putting on something different like a talk just for a change but I do know that there were a few members were away on holiday but that couldn t be helped so I guess that for the time being perhaps we will shelve having a speaker at another club night unless you can come up with something, but the talk we had was very good and we also had some short pieces of film. Our BBQ at Sheila Downs s house on 30 th September was very good and I would like to thank Sheila for inviting us and I am sure everyone enjoyed themselves but more of that next month with pictures hopefully. Our AGM is of course this month on the Tuesday 9 th October so if you would like to help the committee in any way then please put your name forward and give them your support as they could always do with different ideas from different people. Bob is now taking names for the Christmas party being held at the Buckerell Lodge Exeter he will need a deposit of 10.00 per person when you give him your name and we are I think limited to 40 people. MGCC: Devon & Cornwall Centre Tamar Old Bridges Run 2 nd September Yes, I know it says MGCC but it seemed like a good run and it was and we noticed yet again that the Car Club seems to attract more older MGs than the Owners Club does. Don t really know the reason for that. We, plus Roger & Pat, made the trip to the Bradworthy Inn, near Holsworthy, for the start of this fascinating trip and a bacon roll was already waiting. Basically, once the run started we passed the source of the River Tamar and then meandered down the Devon/Cornwall border crossing the river on 20 occasions hence the bridges theme. The run stopped after 60 miles for a break at the Lifton Farm Shop for lunch. The afternoon passed through so many more places we had never heard of and in the end we finished at Harrowbarrow Village Hall, near Callington, after a total of 90 miles, for our cream tea. Oh, and I nearly forgot Roger & Pat s aqua B won the prettiest coloured car award. The weather was good, hood down all the way and overall it was a brilliant day just don t ask about our trip home! But we got there, 200+ miles. What do YOU like to do in your MG? We like going on various runs through the year, just not so keen on car shows, but that s just us. Bob & Lorraine EXETER MGOC TRIP TO FRANCE

This year's trip was to the Loire Valley & what a place to spend 10 days! We left Plymouth on the 7 th September on the night ferry & drove the 250 miles to our gite on the Loire. French laws have recently been amended to a maximum speed of 80km (50mph) on single carriageways with regular radar traps (grey boxes with black & yellow tape by the roadside) which made the journey longer than normal, as we didn't want to get caught speeding or travel on the motorways. We arrived at our gite at 7:30pm, hot & tired, so it was straight in the pool!! 10 days of sunshine with temperatures in the 30's, eating outside under the gazeebo, drinking the wine, eating the food, driving along the Loire, visiting chateaux & lazing in the cafes. We also made the trip to the Le Mans Car Museum & track & generally enjoyed France. We were invited down to have lunch with club members Trevor & Pat at their French property near Parthenay. It's lovely with its own lake. A very big thankyou to them both for a super lunch & their company. THANK YOU!! A couple of points of information, check the speed limits as mentioned above & the price of fuel. E5 petrol is around 1euro 50 per litre in the supermarkets, we even saw it at 1euro 75 in independent garages. Petrol with E10 can be had for 1euro 42, it was fine in the MGF but you wouldn't want to put it in the older cars. So, we had a great time in France & thanks to those club colleagues who came, it was great fun, we will do it again. There are several club holidays abroad being spoken about, if you are interested in joining one next year, let our Secretary know. Roger & Pat Tamar Valley MGOC Run 16 th September 2018

Hazel & myself joined up with Kevin & Fiona Reading at Exeter Services to travel down to Yelverton Nr Plymouth for the start of the People & Places run organised by the Taymar Valley MGOC, the weather when we left Honiton wasn t too bad but not really warm enough for the roof down as we left at 7.30am, as we got nearer to the start venue the weather deteriated a bit and soon got a bit foggy and damp but it was alright. After a cup of coffee we made our way across the old airfield which was named in WW11 Harrowbeer Airfield so as not to confuse it with RNAS Yeovilton in Somerset, we made our way towards Tavistock where supposedly you could see Hessary Tor but the mist didn t allow that but we did cross Tavistock Golf Course and on through Brentor with the Church on the hill and on to Lifton passing the Ambrosia Creamery and into the Lifton Farm Shop. After we zero d the odometer we made our way through Launceston, Egloskerry, and Casworthy Water, and on to Crackington Haven and then into Boscastle for a lunch stop. After Lunch we zero d the clock again and made our way to Alternun ( never heard of this place ) pass the Jamaica Inn to Malletts Cottage where we again zero d the odometer again. We then travelled pass Upton Cross, Kelly Bray, Gunnislake Denham Bridge, Buckland Abbey and finished at the Moorland Garden Hotel for our cream tea we travelled 100.9 miles on the run plus the mileage each way from home to Yelverton and back home again we travelled a total of 234 miles but it was a super run but they only put the run every two years, but a good day out. Derrick Bristol MGOC's Autumn Run 23 rd September We set off early in the pouring rain to support Bristol MGOC & their Autumn Run like one does. We all met at The Bridge Inn, Yatton for coffee & the usual chit chat, meeting old friends before setting off on an 85 mile run taking in Chew Lakes & all the good bits South of Bristol. It was hood up, but by noon things had brightened & after stopping for a Sunday roast at New Manor Farm Shop & Tearoom, the hood came down for a really pleasant afternoon MGing.

The surprise of the run was the conclusion, stopping for a BBQ in a huge farm near Tickenham. Barns full of calssic cars, there must have been at least 20 plus & a number of classic tractors. What a treat. A pleasant couple of hours was spent consuming burgers, sausages, tea, indulging in nostalgia & catching up with our Bristol friends. It was nice to see Shaun there enjoying the event, even though he was in a Ford Focus. Midget resting then eh!! We would like to pass on our congratulations to Bristol MGOC for a super Sunday, one of the best we have done this year & rally plaque 99!! Deposits of 10 pp will be collected, please, and, if you want to stay over, it is 65 room and breakfast per couple. There is a limit to the number so make sure you book soon. Murder Mystery MG Event? Ever fancied yourself as a bit of a Marple or Poirot? Well here s your chance! On the 21 st December, at the world famous Jamaica Inn, there will be a Murder Mystery. An evening of entertainment where a team of professional actors act out a murder for you to solve over a delicious three course dinner. Prizes are given to three detectives who successfully guess the murderer. Tickets for the evening cost 35 per person and includes a full three course meal. For accommodation, they have rooms from 80. We have been there before and had a great time eating, drinking, laughing and solving a murder, which we (I!) did. If you would like to join us just let Roger or Pat know. Holiday News.......... Spring 2019 There is going to be an Exeter MGOC weekend away in April next year. Meeting at Moto Services, Exeter, M5 junction 30 0n Friday 12 th April.Driving along the scenic route towards Dunster and then along to Weston Super Mare (85 miles) and staying in the Lauriston Hotel, right on the beachfront, for 3 nights for 247 bed & breakfast for a twin or double and 145 for a single. The hotel is fully dog friendly, bring one for 6 per night.

There will be an organised day run on the Sunday to Wells, Midsomer Norton and the Malvern Hills 60 miles. If you know what our weekends are like, come again on this one and if you haven t, come anyway they are relaxed and fun and a great way to get away with friends. I am holding 7 doubles and a single at the moment and we will need 20 per person deposit in the New Year, so please contact me if you wish to book and for any more information. Try it, it works. Alternatively, give the MGOC Travel Club a try full details are in the Enjoying MG magazine. Roger s Technical Tangle This month, jamming windows on an MGF. After numerous problems with the drivers side window sticking up & sticking down, it was decided to replace it with a unit from Ebay - 8, what a bargain! This motor & mechanism was from an early MGF, but although different in looks, it fits in exactly the same position except for the connecting plug which is easily adapted.

Start by removing the door card. There are 3 screws around the edge, 2 in the door pull & 1 in the internal door handle. Remove the door card by lifting upwards & outwards, pulling the plug out of the radio speaker. 6 or 7 bolts hold the complete assembly in place. Before removing these, find the 2 fixing points holding the assembly to the window, position the window where you can get at these easily, & if you are on your own, tape the window to the body using gaffa tape otherwise it will fall down & chop your hand off!! Now you can undo all the bolts holding the mechanism in place. You will need to close it up to enable you to remove it through the door frame. This you can do by operating the window switch. Now disconnect the plug from the window switch sender & remove the entire unit, all the time watching your fingers. Thoroughly clean & oil the replacement & fitting is the reverse of the above, the whole thing should take about 1 ½ hours. Once connected up should result in a happy window. The only thing worth looking out for is that the later units do not have the same plug adapter as the early ones.
