Activity Guide for clubs and groups for over 50s in Coventry CV2 area From lunch clubs to history groups, coffee mornings to exercise classes - there s something for everyone near you! goodneighbourscoventry@hopecoventry.org.uk 07563 902 904

Meredith Road Baptist Church is a modern church, where you can find a bunch of friends and a loving group, this is CAMEO. Unlike many other friendship groups, they have this special name, which is short for Come And Meet Each Other. This is a rather large group with approximately 20 people coming by every week. Although it is held in a church every Wednesday, non-believers are equally welcomed. Instead of sitting separately in their own tiny groups, in CAMEO people gather around in a large circle so that everyone can feel part of the club. Generally, it is only a cup of coffee or tea, biscuits, small relaxing chats and laughter. Sheila usually brings a quiz for everyone to have a go. Sometimes there is a speaker, and sometimes they do some exercises.

During the 12 years CAMEO has been running, a Christmas party has been held for many years. Once a couple of years ago, there was 120 people that came for the party and it was described as real fun. For birthdays, there are birthday cards and a birthday cake. Everyone is welcome, Jean emphasised. As the one who runs CAMEO, she is always happy to meet those who don t attend church, it s for people who are lonely to get out of their house and make friends. A lot of people are quite isolated now, she explained: And I enjoy helping them. Mary could have been one of them if it wasn t for CAMEO, as she is recently widowed and it has been hard. I forced myself to come, and it has become a routine. Pat has also been through the similar experience of forcing herself to get out and meet people. I didn t know anybody here when I first moved to Coventry. She moved here years ago because of her family, yet she didn t have anyone to call a friend. You d be surprised by how many friends she has made by now, thanks to her courage and the help and warmth from many lovely members here. If you ever feel lonely, or if you are willing to meet more friends, why not try CAMEO out? They are all eagerly waiting for you here, so that you will be sharing not only biscuits, but also all your troubles and happiness!
