Newsletter Editor... Activities Director Scott Conger Ben Umberger Althea Conger Althea Conger Althea Conger Donna White August 2010 President's Message: Well the MTFCI summer annual tour has come and gone what a great event! Florida was well represented with Scott & Althea, Larry & Ginny, Bill, Nereyda & Celia, plus several other couples from neighboring Central Florida MTFCI Clubs. The routes were harder on some, than others, as the steep hills resulted in problems for a few--but never fear, the trouble trucks, manned by local volunteers, got everyone home safe & sound. Please enjoy the pictures that follow--- Scott

MTFCI Summer Tour Rapid City, South Dakota Don t Model T s and Trains just naturally go together?

In the Beginning There was plenty of quiet Forest the silence broken only by the earnest chugging of 250 model T s On our way, there were The Needles

And then There were tunnels we climbed switch backs and even more switchbacks! (that s two levels below, folks)

And there were still more tunnels!

Sitting in this beautiful meadow, no one could imagine the enormous hill just ahead Nor the filter cleaning & Band Adjustments soon to come

The View through our windshield during the climb Nothing to see here, folks move along Just reattaching the muffler!

This was the view many had, following some of the long hills Plenty of people bent over After the workout When T people are hungry, they ll eat almost anywhere Even in the middle of the road!

As you can see, there were lots of early cars in attendance There were also plenty of later cars, as well

There were even a few Barn Finds that predated the Model T!

One last look back at the Black Hills, and we re headed home We sure hope you enjoyed the pictures it was quite a trip. If you ever have the opportunity to participate on a T tour in this area, don t pass it up it s quite a ride

July Event: What the Heck is That: If you didn t attend, you were in the minority! Over 20 folks showed up for food & fun and tried to guess the purpose of the whatzits on display. A partial list of displayed items were: tire locks; ignition locks; a neato-magneto for speedsters; a spring spreader/lube device called The Tomahawk ; a duster, gloves and a 1920 s tour book; a tire-bead breaker; TT 2 speed read axle transmission; picnic accessories and the official whatzit. Fritz Wilder correctly identified the whatzit as a steering damper that clamps to the steering wheel, and rubs firmly on the steering gear case. It seems to me that all it would do is make the car even harder to steer but the box that it came in agrees with Fritz conclusion (or perhaps the other way around). Congratulations to Fritz and thanks to all for giving their best guesses. I sure hope Fritz didn t think that winning the contest involved $$. We re long on recognition but pretty much short on money August Meeting & Activity: August 14 th Trip to the Armed Forces Military Museum in Largo - Hosted by Ed & Mary Jean Daniels http://www.armedforcesmuseum.com/index.html Located at 2050 34th Way North, Largo, FL.
