We did not have time to see it all but we tried. The city tour really covered a lot. AGAIN We all had a outstanding time in KC. The Sites and things to do in KC were, just as good as we saw in DC. The Shipwreck of the Steam boat Arabia was fantastic. The amount of perfectly preserved 150 year cargo that looked brand new Just like if you were transported back to 1856 and was wandering though the local General story. How they found the wreck and excavation, was a store in its own. The Tour was rated 5 out of 5, in my book and all this was without government funding! Our Second tour that was on Wednesday, I had heard about but like much of KC had not thought about going there, but would like to go back and see more. The National World War I Museum & Memorial was like I had seen before. All Items were real and not just graphical illustrations you visited the trenches you learned things about the great conflict that had only been scuttlebutt or rumors. I really enjoyed it and from the comments so did every one that went. The Reunion also featured 2 Lunches, 3 Dinners & 1 Reception Dinner along with 4 Breakfasts, so you did not always have to go out for lunch or dinner That saved Trish & I some $$. Our Local Host Judy and Ellis Neill insured that everything went smooth Our Chinese's Auction & Raffle paid for everything, all the Snacks, Drinks & Goodies. We did not have a guest speaker this year. So Jim Bieberitz and John Johnson choreographed laying out a Missing Man Table and what each item meant and signified on the table. I though it was a sterling presentation, and the next time I see a missing man table I can better relate and appreciated it s significance As always I thank the Volunteers that help, getting this done. Even though we had a Representative from Gatherings + that really helped things run smoothly. Welcome Aboard our New Treasure Alvin Lacefield. You may send your dues to either Alvin or Tom until next year.

6 TAPS Elvin W Witmer S2. 44-45 AV7 Mechanicsburg PA. NAMES CHANGED TO PROTECT THE NOT SO INOCENT I was trying to help out a fellow ship mate trying to contact some of his buddies when he served aboard, but could not remember the Rating abbreviation for a Corpman HC. I E- mailed a number of crew members about the rating designator. This is what I got back, Uncut. A stick with a ball on top and wings coming out both sides. Then we have two snakes winding their way up to the top of the stick. Why I don't know, all I remember is that we called the corpsman, Penis Machinist or Canker S hankers. It was best to be friends with them. Otherwise when it was time for SHOTS, they would jam the needle tip down onto the table which would bend the tip a little. This had no effect going in but when the needle tip was coming out it would rip the skin a little causing it to bleed a lot. With me coming out of Chicago I learned the ways to get around the regulations pretty quick.. The Executive Office put me in charge of Liberty Cards... YEA!! We had a three way Liberty Card System aboard with the cards being Red, White and Blue. Each day when I typed up the Plan Of the Day (POD) I would show which color had liberty that day. There was a Salmon color which was given to the cooks and certain other personnel which entitled them to go on liberty any day that thy wanted. Naturally I had a Salmon Colored Liberty Card in addition to the one I was supposed to have. I played that Salmon Liberty Card with the guys that did the laundry and they would wash my clothes in a separate bag so that would not get mixed in with the rest of the division which was washed in one Hugh Bag and after drying, dumped on deck in the sleeping quarters. The cooks would let me have midnight rations even when I was not entitled to them.. The corpsman promised not to put my name on the chart if for some reason I would get VD and I would get penicillin without it being recorded. I really enjoyed my short stay (little over 1 year) on board the ship.. but shore duty was even better! (Why the two snaks, at the time the snake was only animal that was believed to had no diseases ) Train Station KC Ball park Convention center Music hall Our Torpedoman s Web page is at: http://diodon349.com/torpedoman/index-tma.htm
