Board meetings March 5, 2019 following general membership meeting. 1 2 3 4 5 News from the President Hello members, I hope your Year is off to a good start. Things at jcoc are off to a good start this year. We have a very successful youth archery program on Sundays that will be ending about mid March. We have our indoor target archery on Tuesdays and Thursdays that will also be ending about mid March. Mark your calendars for our upcoming gun show on March 30th a Saturday. We also have our spring Hunter Safety Classes coming up, check the website for dates and times. Trap will also be starting soon. It's an exciting time of the year spring is just around the corner. The turkeys and mushrooms will soon be hunted and boats in 2Kitchen & Rentals Breakfast up-date Thanks to all the volunteers working the Sunday Breakfast fund raisers. Although we had to cancel one in January due to illness and one in February due to ice, attendance has been steady. Remember this is open to members and to the public and the cost is only $6.00 including coffee (what a deal Editor: Dave Styx dvstyx@yahoo.com the water with lures trying to fool a fish. Our Sunday breakfast is a great time to come out and meet other members and tell your stories of really big fish and 12 point bucks. I am usually there and hope to see you. We have an important date coming up on April 20th at 8 a.m., that is a Saturday, it is the spring cleanup at jcoc. We need our members to come out and help on that day as we have several projects that will need some elbow grease. We would like to rebuild the rifle range backstop Target holders and clear some brush from the upper benches and possibly rebuild those benches. We need to demolish a shed type building between the modular and trailer and we need to take while helping your club). If you can help cooking, taking orders or even doing dishes, call me anytime. Rental up-date: Building rentals are filling up fast, esp in May, June and September (see available dates on the club webpage calendar), members are eligible for a discount. down the platform stand for the archery shoot. 2 Page 2 Jackson County Outdoor Club News 2019 GUN SHOW Gun Show: Our yearly JCOC Gun Show is set for Saturday March 30th starting at 8AM. Tables for rent are still available, member cost is $10 for a 6 foot and $15 for a 8 foot table. If interested, please email davidwil12@comcast.net. This allows the club to generate revenue during 4 Archery We have a great year Planned so far with 5 outdoor 3-D shoots and 2 ASA national shoots. The 1st is May 4 & 5 Tri State shoot. The 2nd is later in summer, July 20 & 21, this shoot is State Finals. Archery members please renew this year so you can shoot in leagues posted on Facebook page the slow/winter months. 3 Page 3 Jackson County Outdoor Club News 2019 Ranges The gate on the ranges is still locked Remember if garbage cans get full please empty them in dumpster by club house thanks The wire sometimes gets heavy use, in the metal box at the pistol range there is equipment to repair if needed Dave Teriaco Trap Range, 2019 Shooting begins at 5:00 PM April 3rd, 2019 and we will shoot every Wednesday night at 5:00 PM through October 30th, 2019. COST: Members $4, Nonmembers $5, all youths under the age of 16 years $3. Ammunition not furnished or sold. We have two voice activated Pat Traps. 5 Building Grounds and waterfront I need one or two volunteers to help with scoring and signup this year. If you are willing to help from 4:30pm until 7:30pm on Wednesdays please give me a call. Mostly sitting down work and an easy way to earn work tickets for reduced membership fee in 2020. If you need more information, contact Richard at 517-315-9339. Archery 3D shoots start Call Jim Moore or Norm Zakrzewski at 567-202-3260 for more information. Building, Grounds & Waterfront Well 2019 is here and I d like to ask for help with the mowing that will be starting in April. This summer we need help mowing and weed whipping at the club grounds, ranges also tree trimming at roads. Weed pulling is also helpful around the main building. We will have several projects for the year, of which we will try to accomplish on APRIL 20 Hours are 9am-2pm. Painting, ground work, raking leaves, cutting overhanging trees, Tear down building on the rental properties. If we have someone familiar with power washers there are projects for that also We hope to have a large turn out for the Clean up day. Please contact any of the board members to let us know who will be able to help. Remember each hour you work gives you work tickets to reduce your next years membership 15 tickets will reduce your cost in half. If you need any answers call the club and leave message. 5 Jackson County Outdoor Club News 2019 Page 5 Conservation and Safety Hunter Safety Class Sign up March 31, 1-5 pm The presentation we had on deer management and food plot preparation was a huge success! We had almost 40 people attending. Hoping to have another meeting this year Hunter safety class sign up is March 31 from 1-5pm The Hunter Safety Class will be on April 10th & 11th, from 5 till 9 pm, With outdoor day Saturday April 13th from 8am-12 noon, which is hands on training. All training will be upstairs at club house. Check web site for flyer Remember everyone using tree stands and harnesses to check their expiration dates off season on them. they are only good for a few years. Just a reminder If you are interested in State of Michigan Bow certification we can have it with your Hunter Safety class certification. Great for the youth hunter to get experience Norm Zakrzewski Director Recently we had a Michigan United Conservation Club Region 7 meeting with A DNR Biologist and Officer. The meeting talked about all aspects of conservation but the most talk was about CWD =Chronic Wasting Disease With information and new activity found in our Jackson County area. Knowledge of this information is important Michigan is not the only state with CWD, 24 state have this, the states that watch and test have controlled it other have lost control. Lets make Michigan control this.
