ABOUT KIRKWOOD WHAT IS CAMP AT KIRKWOOD LIKE? A week at Kirkwood is a unique, exciting, and special experience. Starting every Sunday afternoon, kids and teenagers form one big family for the week. Campers are organized into the Small Group, which is normally a coed group of 10-14 kids their age. They choose their activities together, eat meals together, explore the woods together, and get to know one another over the course of the week. WHO TAKES CARE OF YOUR CAMPERS? Caring for and getting to know your children all week are our excellent team of well-trained camp counselors. We hire only the most friendly and caring college-aged young adults for our staff, who love to work with kids/teens and have fun. Our staff training process for counselors takes almost two weeks, and conveys the high standards we have for our staff, as well as getting them excited about the summer. We also have several former counselors on staff in Leadership roles to take care of the counselors, and a fully registered and licensed nurse here to take care of everybody. Ultimately--All our staff are here because they love kids and they love camp. kirkwoodcamp.org 570-42I-8625

OUR MISSION To build bridges which connect people to God, creation, and each other. WHERE DO CAMPERS SLEEP? Most campers will either sleep in the Stroup House or in one of our new cabins. Indoor camper lodging is fully air-conditioned, with full bathrooms and showers, so everyone can stay in comfort at night after a long summer day playing and exploring. Campers who choose Nite Owl or Adventure Camps will have the opportunity to stay in our platform tent villages, which are a more rustic/ outdoorsy option that kids love. The platform tents all have a central indoor bath house with showers, and feel very wild, but are only a few minutes walk from the rest of camp. HOW DO WE GET THERE? Kirkwood is nestled in the Poconos Mountains in Stroudsburg Pa. Most people want to see the camp, and drive up to see us--but many folks take advantage of the bus service we provide from the Plymouth Meeting Mall (you select this option through the registration process). We are about 90 minutes from most places in the Philadelphia area, 90 minutes from Reading, and about 90 minutes from Newark International Airport in New Jersey. WHAT TIME IS CHECK-IN/CHECK-OUT? In 2019, all our camps will have Sunday check-in from 3:30-4:30pm. Joy of Creation Camps end on Saturday mornings at 9:30am; all other camps will end on Friday afternoons at 4pm. kirkwood@kirkwoodcamp.org

WHAT DO CAMPERS DO AT KIRKWOOD? Campers spend most of the day with their small group--choosing activities like archery, swimming, boating, hiking, taking guided adventures through the woods with our adventure staff, playing games, riding our zip-line, and doing crafts. We also have a rest time after lunch for campers to sleep or just chill out. Bible study also happens as a small group, but in the evening we worship together and play games with everyone together at camp. Also, campers do at least one cookout and one sleep-out during their week at camp. For almost all of our campers, new or old, there is always a lot to do here that they have never done before. WHAT IF MY CHILD HAS NEVER BEEN AWAY FROM HOME/FAMILY BEFORE? Kirkwood is perfect for kids attending camp for the first time, or even staying somewhere without family for the first time. It s normal to feel unsure about staying with new people in a new place, and even our most experienced, oldest campers (and staff!) miss home from time to time. We know that being nervous about being away from home is totally normal, and our staff are ready to welcome all campers to Kirkwood in ways that make them feel safe and cared for. For most kids, they have so much fun here, they forget that they aren t at home very, very quickly. HOW DO I REGISTER FOR CAMP? The easiest way to register is online at kirkwoodcamp.org/summercamp. You can also mail part of this brochure to us! There are a few more pieces of information we need to make sure everyone stays safe during the week. The good news is--all the paperwork can be done now online! We re hoping this saves everybody time. kirkwoodcamp.org 570-42I-8625

TRADITIONAL CAMP RISING GRADES 3-9 Sleep inside, play outside and have an unforgettable week at camp. At Kirkwood, you will have the opportunity to make new friends, try new things, explore the woods, and have fun! Your counselors will be there to help you decide what to do during your time here, keep you safe, and make sure you get to have a chance to do as much as possible. Stay every night in one of our new cabins, or in the Stroup House lodge all with nice new bathrooms and air conditioning. It will be the best week of your summer. This is Kirkwood with a lot of extra flavor, and if you like TV shows involving the fantastic, RPG video games, books that rhyme with Larry s Otter, or anything in between, this is the week for you. ABOUT TIERED PRICING Realizing that families have different abilities to pay for camp, our voluntary tiered fee system allows parents to pay what they can afford, and to further help support the cost of camp if they are able. Just choose the tier that is the most suitable for your family s situation. No matter what tier you choose, every camper will receive the same quality of experience. As you consider your situation, please also take into account the incredible experience Kirkwood provides campers, and the true cost of funding that experience. Tier 1 The lowest amount, which represents a rate subsidized by the presbyteries we serve, local churches, and annual contributions from individuals who value the every day impact of our mission on children, youth, adults, and families. Tier II A middle amount which represents only a partially subsidized rate. In choosing to pay a little more, you re helping to support the continuing ministry at Kirkwood Camp. Tier III The highest amount, which more closely reflects the actual expense related to providing a child with an incredible summer camp experience. By choosing this amount, you help us stretch our mission funding farther, and you enable us to bring more campers to camp. Tiered pricing allows us to: Preserve our ability to create a fun, safe, and loving community, and sustain quality programming for years to come Invite all people to share in the Kirkwood experience, regardless of financial capability Reflect that providing children and adults the opportunity to grow as a person, a leader, and a child of God is an important mission, and more than just the sum of programs and facilities Provide those who value the impact of our ministry an opportunity for partnership. Remember: No matter which tier you choose, all campers receive the same experience. This is a voluntary program that allows you to take an active role in our ministry. It s a part of our mission to make sure no camper is denied an incredible experience because of financial hardship. In addition to the tiered pricing program, we also offer partial and full tuition camperships to allow every child to join in our community. If summer camp fees present a challenge for your family, please contact us for more information.
