Smyrna, Tennessee The Bulletin Chapter E, Stones River Wings Gold Wing Road Riders Association December 2018 Volume 3, Issue 12 Chapter Officers SENIOR CHAPTER DIRECTORS I hope everyone is looking for a Merry Christmas because it will be here before we know it. Riding in the Smyrna Christmas Parade made it feel more like the season. Thanks to everyone who joined us in the parade, the bikes looked great with all the decorations. Several people told me they watched it later on the Smyrna City TV Channel and we got a lot of exposure; it s good to participate in community events. As you know, the only entry fee for the parade was a non-perishable food item; in 2017 donations totaled 7,181 items of food, this year the goal was 8,000 items. I just received the total for 2018 and it surpassed the goal, it was a great success with 22,872 items donated. Mrs. Strange sends her thanks to all of you for your generous support. Chapter E has reached another milestone; this is the last month of our third year as a Chapter and what a great ride those three years have been. Sadly November s meeting was the last meeting we will have at Shoney s in Smyrna, they will be closing the doors for the last time on December 20 th. We appreciate so much Mark and his friendly staff for providing us with a good place to meet and great service over our time with them. Starting in January we will be meeting at the Smyrna Center 96 Weakley Rd. in Smyrna. Thanks to Roy Baudoin and the staff at the Center for their generosity and hospitality. The schedule will be the same as it has been; we will meet on the second Saturday of each month except December, eat at 9:00 am and meet at 10:00 am. Our January meeting will be on the 12 th, please come join us at our new location. As we close out 2018 we are looking forward to an even more exciting 2019 starting with a New Years Day Ride and lunch at The Depot Junction Café in Watertown. The District OPS meeting is scheduled for January 19 th at the Gladeville Community; if you are an officer it is requested that you attend and if you want to be an officer in the future feel free to attend as well. Remember Spring Fling May1-5 and Wing Ding will be held in Nashville in 2019, start marking these dates on your calendars. Delores and I want to say Thank You for the honor of serving the members of Chapter E as Chapter Directors and for everything you do every day that makes your Chapter so great. We wish you and yours a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!! Page 2 So if you are like me and Chapter Ride Coordinators have been riding a motorcycle FOREVER, Walter & Barbara Donnell I strongly urge you to take this course. I learned so much I didn t know. You may even get a discount on your motorcycle insurance for taking the class. Remember safety is no accident. Our Dinner Rides are being well attended and enjoyed; thanks David and Nancy for picking such good places for us to eat. If you should have a favorite place you would like to go to for a Dinner Ride let David and Nancy know and I m sure they will do their best to get it on the list. At times we will combine a visit to a sister chapter with our dinner ride as we did on November 15 th when we visited Chapter G in Tullahoma and captured the Mid/West Tennessee Traveling Plaque. Thanks to everyone for their support of our Dinner Rides and visitation program. If you think you are too old to learn try attending a motorcycle Experienced Riders Course (ERC). Take it from a rider that has been riding for 41 years there is still a lot to learn. This class will teach you how to roll over objects in the road, why T-Clocks are important, importance of wearing the proper riding gear, the proper way to negotiate a curve and so much more. I thought I knew a lot about riding a motorcycle, but I was very sadly mistaken. Dinner Rides Chapter G Meeting From the desk of your Newsletter Editor: Barbara M. Donnell Just a reminder that your newsletter articles need to be turned in by Friday, January 4 for our December Newsletter. If you have pictures or if you would like to write about one of our chapter activities send them to decoratinglady1@yahoo.com. Please contribute your articles and pictures, REMEMBER our newsletter is only as good as WE make it. Many thanks to you all for your help and support. Sending prayers and well wishes to Johnny Victory who has been under the weather. Also please continue to keep Johnny in your prayers as he s having surgery on his foot December 21. Page 3 2018 Smyrna Christmas Parade Chapter E once again supported the Annual Smyrna Christmas Parade on Sunday, December the 2nd. Our group of riders participating in the parade met at Bank America and then proceeded to the parade staging area, where we decorated our bikes for the parade. We installed enough tinsel, garland, ribbon, bows, wreaths and other types of decorations to have adorned a huge number of Christmas trees. This years crowd was the largest that we have seen, with many areas along the parade route lined with spectators 10 to 12 (plus) persons deep. We couldn t have asked for more comfortable and better weather, with the thermometer climbing to almost 70 degrees. Our bikes were well decorated for the event, and most assuredly well received by the general public. This was a great way to promote a positive image of motorcycling! The parade route began at the Rotary Soccer Park on Soccer Way, just off of Mayfield Drive; to North Lowry (main street); and along Lowry to Nolan Drive; where it terminated (at the TSC Store). A number of us took the opportunity to spread some Christmas Joy by throwing candy to many of the children (and a few adults) along the parade route. Doris dismounted from the bike for about half of the parade and actually passed out candy, walking along side of our procession. It was a pleasure to have Isabell, David s grand-daughter join us, as David s co-rider. Once again, this years parade received full television coverage, with a great message about GWRRA and our Chapter. We had seven bikes and two slingshots, and received a huge number of thumbs up motions from many spectators. Following are some photos of our participants, with their bikes, as they prepared to take part in the parade. Mac McGlothlin David Netherton Randy Galloway Jeff & Geraldine Jones

Page 4 At the conclusion of the parade, we rode to La Siesta Mexican Restaurant, on Sam Ridley to remove the decorations from our bikes and enjoy another one of those great Chapter dinners. We had about 20 participants and guests at the dinner, where we swapped a few tall tales, enjoyed each others company, and compared notes about the parade this year. As we close the book on another year in the annals of Chapter E, it s nice to look back on the past eleven months and to remember the many good rides and events that we enjoyed as a group and the camaraderie. We re not quite done yet though, with the Chapter Christmas party, dinner rides and twice a week bowling events remaining in December. And, this year may be just about over, but don t forget the plans that we re already making as we go into the New Year. The Chapters third birthday is rapidly approaching too, so don t forget to contribute your ideas of some interesting and different events that we may want to pursue in 2019. Until next month, Ride Safe and Ride Often Ed & Mary Ann Grazier Chapter Member Enhancement Coordinators
