Paw Prints October 2016 Bugles and BBQ: We say it every year although this get-together traditionally has the lowest attendance, most consider it the most nurturing for the soul. This year, the very few participants got to enjoy the fantastic late summer day, perfect weather, elk in the lake, ospreys, rutting behavior.you definitely should have been there! We ve decided not to take pictures and will instead invite you to come out to see for yourself. We will move this event 1 week later in 2016 to maximize the elk rutting behavior. We have one more volunteer event this year, the December 12 th annual Christmas Potluck. An elderly lynx had developed kidney disease and lymphoma, and the last of the original foxes were euthanized at the Park in September. The fox had been off exhibit for several years and lived to be the ripe old age of 14. Sunday September 27 was the last day of ZipWild operation for the year. Thanks to Deep Forest Challenge for a great year!
We are definitely getting to the artistic phase of Kids Trek and it is involving a lot more staff time (don t worry. volunteers will get their chance to be artistic in the next phase we will be looking for volunteers as we complete the
landscaping/final touches phase November through the end of February). Clockwise from Left: Danny Waite shows off a recently constructed log play house, the aerial view from the education building, creating a natural log snag from parts of 3 root wads and Turnstone Construction s fantastic concrete work, and Jake Pool turns a cedar log into a nurse tree planter box. It is really starting to look phenomenal.something everyone at Trek will really be proud of. Hoot n Howl Speaking of volunteering, we still could use some more volunteers for Hoot n Howl, October 24 and 25. It is such a fun event for kids and you get to see Trek after dark. Remember you can be a volunteer in any department to join in the fun!!! Sign up in the break room or talk to Brianne. Don t be scared.join the party! If you are looking to join a swell crew doing some needed community service, meet us at the maintenance shop at 9:45 on Friday, October 9 to pick litter along the roadside. Chip and the rest of the crew would love to have you. October Birthdays:
In October, we celebrate one volunteer birthday. Leona was born October 11 and is a terrific education docent. As many of you already know, October 11 is also General Pulaski Memorial Day and National Sausage Pizza Day.but I think we can squeeze in one more thing to celebrate!
