PASCAGOULA RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING MAY 15, 2017 Mike McElhaney opened the meeting at 6:00 pm. Mike welcomed Bo Cole as a guest. A special meeting was called to review the recommendation being made to the City Council on May 16, 2017. The recommendation includes the following: SOAR ATHLETIC COMMITTEE 1. Performing Arts = Joe Davis, Landon McCarty, Darcie Crew to meet with Mr. Wayne Rodolfich. Points of discussion will be: location on Tucker Street, and construction of the performing arts center that makes expansion possible. 2. Baseball/Softball = locate new facility on property that City already owns at the current soccer complex (18+ acres). Need to purchase wetland credits (use money from Tucker Street and 14 th Street sell off to offset cost). Build 6 new fields in addition to completing current baseball and softball field at MCC park. Consolidation of baseball, softball, cross-country, basketball, football and soccer into one park at this location. Rename the park and enclose this entire park with upscale perimeter fencing and entryways. 3. IG Levy = Tennis upgrade is out for bids. Skate Park and pump track expansion. Single basketball court. Engineered park lighting. Improve parking. 4. Andrew Johnson = Construct a pool house. Upgrade lighting and surface on outdoor basketball court. Improve signage on building to match City design and aesthetics plan. 5. Retail family interactive park = to be determined based on Pascagoula s vision of where the retail area should be.
RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITES REQUIRING ALTERNATE FUNDING MECHANISM 1. Outdoor adventure area = ropes course, zip line, etc. 2. Greenway Trail = A walking and biking trail linking recreational, residential, and commercial areas of Pascagoula with minimal roadway exposure. 3. Aquatics center = locate at Senior Citizens center property on Live Oak or Belair shopping center property on Old Mobile Hwy. 4. Pascagoula Country Club Golf course expansion = Use underdeveloped residential property in Chipley subdivision. Darcie Crew and Joe Davis gave a synopsis of the past week s meetings with Mr. Rodolfich and his staff. Darcie, Joe and Landon McCarty met with Mr. Rodolfich on Tuesday, May 9 th and with the architects and PGSD staff members to look at the concept designs of the facility on Friday, May 12 th. The Commission reviewed the recommendation and the drawings of the proposed ball fields at the Soccer Complex (attached) as well as discussed the overall recommendation that will be presented by Joe Davis and Lee Tingle on May 16th. Darcie also shared drawings of ideas and budgets for athletic facilities throughout the City. The Commission requested that these drawings along with the SOAR Athletic Committee Focus Group meeting notes be shared with the City Council on Tuesday, May 16 th. There being no other business, Paul Hembree made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:54pm. Gerri Warden seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
