Adopt-a-Trail Work Day, Saturday, September 17 10am Leader Tom Mason 970-531-5812. Meet at Idleglen. The group will ride ATVs to the part of the Sherman Creek trail most in need of work. If you have tools such as shovels, hoes, rakes, rock bars, limbing saws, loppers, McLeods, Pulaskies, etc., please bring them. No chainsaws. Bring a lunch and rain gear, too. Highway Cleanup Saturday October 1 10am Leader Mike Ingle 970-531-5940. Meet at Mile Marker 9 the big turnout with the big rocks across from Stillwater Campground. The club will bring the donuts and trash bags. Bring your morning beverage, gloves and a safety vest. We have a few vests to loan, but if you have one please bring it. Usually, after our morning socializing, we get the mile cleaned and are done by noon. Recent Events Buffalo BBQ Parade July 17. David Zimmerman and Mike Ingle headed up the parade with the help of Rachel Zimmerman and a 4 wheeler from Spirit Lake Polaris, used to pull the two snowmobiles through town. We carried signs that read THINK SNOW and passed out candy to the kids (and few adults) along the route. The signs drew lots of attention from the crowd, everything from thumbs up with cheering; to boo s accompanied by the ever threatening pointing of the index finger. It was all in good fun. The candy throwers (read hander outers) had no trouble keeping up with float this year as the turnout for the parade participants was large and slow moving. A special thank you goes out to Rachel s friend Danielle who generously made the drive up to Grand Lake to pass out candy. Next year we d like to have club member turnout en mass to help us give away all the candy, and show the town how we support snowmobiling in Grand Lake! Contributed by David Zimmerman Summer Picnic August 6 Before the picnic, the board worked to set the coming season s ride schedule. We had some requests for rides to change, to be kept, etc., and did our best to work with them. See the schedule later in this
newsletter. Mike Ingle brought photos to show the progress on the club s new chuckwagon. The picnic was small good. Besides the fried chicken, we had several varieties of macaroni, potato and pasta salad, deviled eggs and watermelon. The weather was clear and sunny for the whole time, so there was no need to scramble to clean up and dodge thunderstorms this year. We had a nice time socializing over our lunch and talking about how we ll enjoy the coming season. Other Events On the weekends we do the Adopt-a-Trail work days, some of the club members plan to fill their weekend by getting together for a ride in the area. On the first Adopt-a-Trail weekend (August 27 & 28) they ll ride for fun on Saturday, then work on Sunday. On the second Adopt-a-Trail weekend (September 17 & 18) they ll work on Saturday and ride for fun on Sunday. If you are interested, contact Tom Mason at 970-531-5812 or autowrenche2002@yahoo.com Snowmobile Expo (Snow Show) October 8 & 9 at the Denver Merchandise Mart. The club will not have a booth, but will help the Chamber staff their booth and provide maps and insight on the Grand Lake riding experience. We can use folks for a couple hours at a time please contact Tom or Debbie to let us know when you can be an ambassador for our riding area. Also, Tom Mason plans to rent a Swap Meet space for Saturday and is willing to share that space with you if you have a few things you d like to sell there. NOTE: Last year the organizers did not allow stuff to enter or leave the Swap Meet area except before the meet opened or after it closed for the day, so if you can t carry it in you need to be there early or get it to Tom before that weekend. Board Position open Board member Kimbirly Orr has resigned. That leaves a vacancy on the board. If you d like to fill that vacancy for the remainder of her term, contact any board member.
