Welcome to the BUILD Charity s Activity Programme The BUILD Charity was established in 1967 and is a Norfolk based independent registered charity providing social, leisure and learning opportunities for adults and young people with sensory, physical or learning disabilities. BUILD offers a wide range of activities, across Norfolk, including youth clubs and activity days for young people (aged 11-18) to a weekly social club for adults in Norwich,(known as the )and a Community Activity Programme (CAP) which includes sport, outdoor activities, country walks, day-trips, visits and some learning workshops. How to Use this Programme 1. Look at the calendar (pages 8-13) to find what activities are on offer each week 2. Go to the Information sections (pages 14-29) to find out more details about the activity, what time it is happening, what you will need to take part, how much it will cost, how and when to reserve your place. 3. To reserve a place you will need to book by filling in a BUILD Activity Booking Sheet (BABS) which is available from our website or by calling the BUILD Office, on 01603 618029 or emailing us info@buildcharity.co.uk All activities (except the and Fuse Party Nights at Chicago s) will require a reservation. BUILD Community Based Activities Programme (CAP) BUILD s Community Activities Programme includes a range of activities for adults, of all ages, and abilities, and will operate with activities each week, with normally at least one activity out of the Norwich area and one activity at the weekend. Most activities encourage the use of public transport in getting to locations, and meeting points. Activities are arranged as a mixture of weekday daytime, weekday evening and week-end daytime opportunities to meet demands identified in research conducted with existing BUILD beneficiaries. Activities have a mix of BUILD s core programme themes of social, leisure and learning and continue to encourage support and facilitation by volunteers. For some activities we may ask people taking part to complete a health questionnaire to make sure that it is safe for them to take part. Some activities happen regularly such as Ten Pin days where we offer ten pin bowling and a meal in Norwich, Dereham, Great Yarmouth and North Walsham, or s where you can join a working farm each week. We also offer our Sunday Lunch Club" once a month and a series of countryside walks, and visits to cultural centres around Norfolk. There really is something for everyone, and you can choose to do as little, or as much as you want to, and can afford. Please Note: BUILD does not offer personal, or individual care. Some people who may need extra support, during their activities, will bring their carers with them, and carers will need to pay any admission prices. To Book your Place: Fill out the BUILD Activity Booking Sheet (we call it BABS) or email us admin@buildcharity.co.uk or Call Sally Medler on 01603 618029 Page 4 of 32

BUILD The BUILD was established in 1967 and runs each Wednesday evening between 7pm and 9pm at the Church Rooms at the United Reformed Church, Princes Street, Norwich. It is run by a team of volunteers, many of who have disabilities themselves, and its programme is built from suggestions made by the people who use the club. Each week the Club offers people with disabilities; a café style coffee bar selling hot and cold drinks, sweets, crisps, biscuits, fresh fruit and cakes a place to meet friends board games and a pool table either a Disco or other group activity such as Bingo, visiting speakers, sports activities a room dedicated to creative art and craft Wii Sports and games A member s raffle prize draw with one free entry ticket for everyone, and the chance to buy more We also run occasional workshops in things like cooking skills, basic first aid, using computers safely or staying healthy. We also run a variety of activities off site, such as visits to the pub, evening city walks and treasure hunts. Details of these appear on the weekly programmes in this booklet. Entry to the club costs 7 per week for registered BUILD members and 10 for others, and sometimes we charge for extra activities, but these will always be shown in our programmes. The Club has a drop-in policy, so people can come in, and out, as they wish during the evening. BUILD does not offer personal, or individual care, and as a drop-in club, exits are not supervised. Some people who may need extra support during their visit will bring their carers with them. Carers can get in free if they bring some form of identification badge with them, or they are known family carers. For more information about the call Roy McGee on 01603 618029 (days Thursdays) Page 5 of 10 Page 5 of 32

How to get there Public and Community Transport Information BUILD Charity actively encourages use of local public transport and community transport schemes and encourages people to use these independently with their concessionary transport cards wherever possible. We recommend that anyone planning to travel by public transport firstly checks with transport providers that the services are still operating, and that there are no delays or changes to the services suggested. If you are using public transport from central Norwich and want a safe, warm place top wait, we can recommend the YMCA Stepping Stones Café at Norwich Bus Station open between 10am and 4pm. Information on the best public transport service to use can be found by visiting the information website http://www.travelineeastanglia.co.uk or call 0871 200 22 23 (Calls cost 10p per minute) This will help identify the various public transport providers including private companies like First Bus, Sanders Coaches, Eastons Coaches, Norfolk Green, Neaves Coaches, Konnect, and Greater Anglia Railways etc, all of who run regular services in and around the county of Norfolk. Where regular public transport services are not available, or people using our services want a more direct door to door style service they use one of Norfolk s Community Transport Schemes. These can be found by visiting the website http://ncta.org.uk/ or calling 01603 224477 or 01603 224267 for information about services close to where you live. Services are run all over Norfolk.
