HENDERSON / POLK / TRANSYLVANIA UTILITIES COORDINATION COMMITTEE January 12th, 2012 This month s meeting was held at Bay Breeze Restaurant in Hendersonville NC. The following utilities and agencies were represented: NC 811: George Bloodworth PSNC: Tom Brookshire, Dustin Beach, Marc Worth, Greg Roberts, Alex Franklin, Tony Woody and Shannon Anders AT&T : Mike Mullins, Brian Groome, Steve McDonough and Nelson Maynard NC DOT: Carl Ownbey DUKE Energy: Bob Mabry and Randall Gant PIKE Electric: Dewey Budro, Hendersonville Water: Wayne Morrow Consolidated Utilities: ANSCO & Associates: Scott Crandall The meeting was called to order by Tom Brookshire, and a round table discussion was opened. PSNC is digging in the area of Balfour Road near Kimberly Clark. Alex stated that just routine work is being done right now. Randall Gant from DUKE said work is continuing in the Blantyre area from Transylvania County to Turnpike Rd. Bob Mabry advises that work is starting on the Howard Gap Road project and estimates about two weeks of work. Scott Crandall from ANSCO stated that they are also working on poles and anchors for Howard Gap Road. Wayne from the water department also has some locates for the same area. Effective February 1 st, Duke is transitioning to USIC for locating services. Carl Ownbey advised that the City of Hendersonville has been approved for the sidewalk work on Hwy 191 at Hwy 25. The project calls for approximately 1 mile of sidewalk to be placed. Greg Roberts has informed the group that work on Old Distillery Road has completed. PSNC also reported a damaged line on Howard Gap Road which was caused by Cooper Construction which did not have locates. Work continues on Upward Road.
AT&T will begin placing fiber cable on S. Bobs Creek Road beginning at Bobs Creek Road and going to the state line. Have North Carolina 811 registered as agent for taking locate requests at the Register of Deeds Office in each county in which the utility operates ($17 per county/legal requirement). Reduced NC811 Participation in UCC Meetings Beginning in 2012, North Carolina 811 will attend UCC meetings on a quarterly basis. NC 811 will be focusing on Damage Prevention by doing safety tailgates, addressing membership opportunities, meeting with contractors and members, and there is a planned, new publicity program. North Carolina D.I.R.T. date will be used to develop priorities for Damage Prevention Efforts. Damages Reported to NC 811 during December Henderson County: 12/22/11:W. E. Polk County: 12/8/11: National Communication Infrastructures reported damage to a water line on Highway 176 near Pace St. in Saluda. Transylvania County: There were no damages reported to North Carolina 811 during December.
