It is a place that 'grows upon you' every day. There seems to be always something to find out in it. There are the most extraordinary alleys and by-ways to walk about in. You can lose your way (what a comfort that is, when you are idle!) twenty times a day, if you like; and turn up again, under the most unexpected and surprising difficulties. It abounds in the strangest contrasts; things that are picturesque, ugly, mean, magnificent, delightful, and offensive, break upon the view at every turn. Charles Dickens Genoa is one of the most important international ports. For this reason, the whole area has recently been renovated by the great Genoese architect Renzo Piano, who had already designed the Bolla (the Bubble) near the famous Aquarium. Furthermore, you will discover the most important historic centre in Europe, in which two of UNESCO's world heritage sites since 2006, the Palazzi dei Rolli and the Strade Nuove, streets in which palaces and museums rich in artistic treasures are found. Genova is perfect place to experience the best of the Italian Riviera: the prestigious small traditional villages of Santa Margherita Ligure, Camogli and Portofino are only 30 mins away. Do not forget to visit the Five Lands too! Genoa is home to some of your favourite Italian food: try focaccia fresh from the oven or delicious home-made pesto, perfect with a plate of steaming pasta, traditionally accompanied by potatoes and green beans.
